Ive been with Oaken for 10 years. No serious issues whatsoever. Didnt give them 5 stars because they are not perfect. But still much better rates than the others so Im sticking with them

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service, I am trying to sort out an issue with a GIC that was supposed to go in a TFSA (but didn't) I phoned up to get some answers but the girl couldn't help me, and said that a manager would get back to me, (no one bothered to phone me back). I wrote to them by e mail and still have not heard back. I also never received an e mail to say that they received my cheque when i puchased the GIC. I had to phone them to make sure they had indeed received
the cheque, and it hadn't got into the wrong hands. Never again will I do business with them. once they get your money they do not care about you.

The WORST communication imaginable.

The WORST communication imaginable.

It took weeks to create an account after persistent badgering.
They don't email.
They initiate transactions without confirmation.

Literally the most negative consumer experience I've ever had.

Don't know if I can trust Oaken

I have no idea if my account is even created. I phoned numerous times about my account and kept being told it's been processed and the enrollment forms are on the way. Well, here it is more than 3 months after I sent the funds and I still don't know anything about my account.
I regret putting my trust in Oaken.

This was a simple easy online process for locking away a large sum of money. Hesitant yes, to do all of this online, but it all worked out. I would do it again and again.

Great experience banking with Oaken. Prompt customer service and no issues with accessing my banking online and giving direction. I was especially surprised to receive a gift of chocolates from a banking institution, not to mention the exceptional savings interest rates you provide. Thank you

my experience has been very good in my mind. the forms were straightforward, the website straightforward, and the email updates on GIC rates are helpful. the only thing that went awry is part of my form was misplaced at Oaken after i mailed it in, so i was sent an email indicating i had to fill out a second form. i indicated that i had already done that and mailed it in with the other one; it was then located and all was fine.

Online information lacking

As a new client sending funds to Oaken for the first time, I felt there should have been an email sent to me confirming that my cheque had been received. I had to contact the company and then was told I wouldn't hear until an account was set up which could take several weeks.
Similar situation with the process for withdrawing funds- there isn't enough information on your website. Hence, I have to contact someone.

saving account for TFSA and RSP

All others institutions have a saving account for TSFA and RSP. It will be very useful for a client who wants to transfer TFSA and RSP from others institutions to OAKEN when there is no GIC's interest rate desired at that moment.

Even at the maturity of TFSA or RSP at OAKEN, client can deposit his money temporarily at this account and wait for the best rate, so client doesn't have to transfer his money to another institution when client doesn't to want to renew immediately GIC
with OAKEN.

Unable to answer simple question - EDIT

Unable to answer my question. I asked how interest is calculated and paid. I provided my transaction history (there were only 4) and asked a very specific question. I received a vague response in reply.

I tried phoning and asking the same question but staff is unable to provide anything other than the cookie cutter response that doesn't cut it. I will likely be transferring my funds out of Oaken.

Edit: problem resolved! Received a call from resolving my issue.

Off To A Shaky Start

I filled out the application for the high-interest savings account and provided a copy of my passport and proof of address. I thought that would be good enough but no. The woman processing my application was nitpicky and proceeded to email me several times asking for more personal information (which wasn't part of their list of valid ID) and signatures to prove my identity. She made me feel like a criminal. I never went through such a difficult time opening an online account before. It was ridiculous. I've had an easier time applying for credit cards and loans than what that woman put me through.

When my account was finally opened, I tried to use the Oaken app and it wasn't working. It took another few weeks before I saw the money in my account and received interest on it.

Once the app was fixed, everything was smooth sailing after that. Funds were transferred into my account like clockwork every week.

Application Notification / Misleading Information

I applied for a GIC per directed from a call with an advisor. Rather than he support me, I was asked to submit request to service at Oaken.

I did this, but never received any confirmation that my request was received.

I called to adjust the GIC request and was told it had already been processed.

I enquired and was fine with it being too late to modify my request, but I was told I had received new rate--came out day of my request.

When I received verification of my GIC investment it was the old rate.

A Positive Experience Thus Far

I have been satisfied by the service offered to this point. I have been able to contact an agent in a timely manner without unreasonable delay.

The GIC rates are competitive.

The only downside has been a delay in my enrolment which is in the process of being remedied by me phoning Oaken Financial today.

Further I was not aware of a $2 charge for paper statements. I believe that this will be corrected with my request to receive statements on- line.

A positive start to date.

Helpful customer service rep

Helpful customer service rep. My transfer hadn’t gone through for some reason. She helped me fix it. I’d give her 5 stars but I won’t know for 5 to 10 business days if this has worked. Great so far.
