morningstar portfolio - false update claims.

morningstar claim that stocks in your portfolio have prices 15 minutes delayed. The updates to prices has yet again stopped. This is a regular occurrence and various excuses are given for the failure. Eventually the updates recommence, after a few days or weeks.

If you want to monitor your portfolio, go somewhere else. Don't fall for the Premium User sales pitch. Once they have your money they will not care about giving what you SEE they say they provide on their web site.

What an awful company

What an awful company. I spoke with a gentleman in sales called Jeff, who has to be one of the rudest customer service people ever. Prior to this rude man I had spoken with two pleasant ladies, one in sales and one in support. The two ladies had tried to help as there was a technical glitch on their website which was locking up my account in some kind of limbo. I spent an hour trying to sort this out, so by the time I got through to the sales representative called Jeff I was already frustrated, but unlike the two ladies Jeff didn't seem to care in the slightest that I'd had a big chunk of my afternoon wasted. I can understand why they have such bad reviews on here. Definitely puts me off ever using Morningstar.

Premium doesn't work

I paid for premium, yet when I log in it still says 'free'.

I've been on the phone with them 3 times and they just explain that they don't understand what is wrong and will look into it.

They don't respond to emails or inquiries either.

And with all that in mind, their research is not even good. I really wish someone would launch a competitor.

Morningstar needs to stop outsourcing to India and employ Australian staff to answer calls

OMG what a joke this company is . I read an article by John Rekenthaler concerning the lack of financial literacy being taught in schools. In some ways I agree with him on this topic and in many I disagree . I wanted to contact him in relation to his article. Firstly, I was put through to a Indian outpost in Mumbai where somebody who could barely speak English tried and failed to connect me with Australia Morningstar . Once again this failed . I tried a further 3 times and failed in all attempts due to this company NOT employing Australian receptionist staff to answer calls from possible clients . John asked readers to get in contact with him if we , as readers , had some form of feedback . John , I wanted to give you some feedback buddy . My father taught me a very valuable lesson in life , one to which you obviously were not taught , or if so , do not practise . Make sure your own house is in order before you start making calls on topics you are not fully aware of and lie outside your professional capabilities/ understanding . As a teacher I can make some judgement calls on this topic . Those calls I wanted to share with you , but due to the failure on your company's part to have an efficient and easy contact method this was not possible . One of the most basic lessons in running a business John is that you have a term called Fiancial implosion due to outsourcing and brand defacing . Your company is doing exactly this and many people are fully aware of this as I have found through some research . If you outsource and your product appears cheap ( let's face it, this is the reason Morningstar has outsourced first contact from clients ) people will associate 'cheap' with your product .

Over several days trying to log in to…

Over several days trying to log in to the UK site and set up and compare funds and portfolios. The site and Morningstar may as well not exist for all the response they offer. Dead in the water. Absolutely atrocious.

There you go. Three and a half years later they send a meaningless boilerplate reply. What a useless outfit.

Customer service is terrible

Customer service is terrible.
Staff unsure what they are doing to be completely honest.
Waiting time for orders to be took was ridiculous. Meanwhile staff walking about talking. Eventually had to go to bar myself and ask could we order. Wouldn’t recommend cocktails either as the glsssrs come half filled. Just a terrible experience all in would not recommend.

I am still locked out of my premium…

I am still locked out of my premium account since the 5th August despite an active subscription running until June 2023
Since January 2021 I haven't received the monthly portfolio monitor. I was told me that for some reason my e mail which had worked for the last ten years) now bounces back the reports. I have been a premium subscriber since June 2011.

In July I changed the e mail and my password in order to try to overcome this. I was then after an initial period when the premium service worked for a few days the subscription was changed to the free non premium service without any explanation. I have highlighted this to the customer services on a number of occasions they respond-saying it was escalated and they are working on a fix but unfortunately nothing has actually been achieved. I am still locked out of the premium services.

I cant find any complaints policy on their web site? They should have one. I would like to make a formal complaint about the service you are providing and I am paying for and not receiving.
I am becoming frustrated and irritated by the lack of progress as nothing has actually been achieved to resolve the problems.

DO NOT SIGN UP TO ANY FREE TRIAL PERIOD WITH MORNINGSTAR. I entered my credit card details which returned an error message and as I never received ANY email communication from the organisation confirming the account set up, thought my details can't have gone through. They have been charging my account every month for a service I never used and to make it worse, you cannot get hold of anyone in the organisation to make a dispute or stop the card payment. I have now had to cancel with my credit card directly. This is a really bad way for them to conduct themselves.

HACKED !!

HACKED !!! Premium subscriber for 2 months . As other posters found website not user friendly and tools useless, I used it for general information which is avaliable elesewhere free- !Then account blocked.! Customer service, explained "regularly close accounts to stop fraud" a ludicrous excuse. Numerous mails eventually discovered my account had disappeared, and with it my data, including credit card details. I asked for a refund and assurance that no data lost - NO RESPONSE.

Imagine if it was trading account !!!

My recommendation stay away . Avoid it at all costs its unsafe an cant be trusted with your data.

Do not use this service it is useless

Do not use this service it is useless. I paid for premium membership but none of the tools worked wasted my money. I sent several emails complaining but nothing was done. They offered me one-month complimentary extension to my premium account as compensation but that did not work either.

Want to access their analyis... but utterly useless service…

April 2021. Really want access to the Morningstar analysis, but setting up an account is incredibly hard. I had a free US account, looked at the UK version and decided it made more sense to use. Although both sites use the same user credentials, my US account was recognised but not the UK. It would not allow me to set up an account on the UK side (saying my email address was already in use, but would not allow me to reset my password). Only resolved with two phone calls.

That was the start... now trying to sign up to the Premium service. Impossible, put in all details but just keeps redirecting to a blank sign up form. More phone calls, talking to someone who is just there to answer calls not provide assistance. Waiting for a call back. Useless useless useless. How in this day and age can it be so difficult to sign up for a subscription and give money to a company!!!

Looking at alternative competitors.

Invest is a better tool, certainly not Morningstar

The Canadian version of the Premium platform is useless. Graphs don't work, it is not possible to import trades, the interface is beyond dated, even your profile information section is broken.

Don't waste your money, this tool needs a MAJOR overhaul before providing any value for portfolio management.

Hopeless

Hopeless. Hopeless. Hopeless. Signed up for a Premium subscription for their UK site, twice. Tried to use their x-ray tool, but couldn't get it to work. Kept on getting a runtime error. Tried to access securities through the stock screener, using three different browsers and couldn't. Took multiple screenshots, phoned numerous times, wrote numerous emails. At one stage, I granted their tech team access to my laptop to take screenshots of the problems. No-one got back to me with feedback. In other phone calls they told me that the developers were working on the x-ray issue, and that's the last I heard of that problem. Three weeks down the line I cancelled my membership. Got sick and tired of writing emails, taking screenshots, phoning, being put through the Mumbai office, etc etc.

Failed IT and failed help desk

Tried to get a premium trial but the payment system wouldn't accept any of my cards so I didn't even start it. 14 days later they tried to take money from my account. I wrote to them explaining that I hadn't had the trial because their IT had failed. The "help" centre sent me a stock response saying they always take money after the trial period has ended and that I couldn't have a refund, but they would turn off the auto renew. They then closed the help ticket so I couldn't reply to tell them that they hadn't bothered to read my original email.

Appalling service

I have rang the UK Morningstar head office number in London (as per Google search) and tried various options such as zero to speak to reception, 2 to speak to help with the website and on all four occasions my call has been cut off before speaking to anybody. I then called a sales telephone number for Morningstar which ended up in Mumbai, I explained my problem and then the line went dead. I rang back again and explained the problem to the Mumbai office for a second time and they did not seem particularly bothered that my phone call kept getting cut off. I then tried to sign up to the Premium service as Morningstar no longer allow Financial Express access to the their fund research sheets, hence forcing us to subscribe to a service with them but the website gave a message stating that it was experiencing issues creating the premium subscription so was unsuccessful. So far I have wasted an hour and have got absolutely nowhere. Zero customer service, that is if you can get through and not get cut off. Amazing to think Morningstar charge fund management groups to interview them and publish their results only to make these result nigh-on-impossible for Financial Advisers to access.

Morningstar Premium not worth it

I have been a Morningstar Premium customer for 10+ years. This morning the company had a major software problem dropping at least my account update (not sure how many more). This is the 4th problem with my Premium account - the prices are right, the shares are right, but my daily portfolio calculations and totals did not work. In addition, there are no "look back" tools (what was my account on 12/31/19 vs now) but it is "in development".

I'm done - Personal Capital rates #1 in the five surveys I've read - Morningstar only rates #3 in one. I canceled this morning and we'll see how it goes at Personal Capital.
