Traveling with the Monarch Genie Ultralite
I bought this scooter after researching U Tube and other sources .I also own 3 other scooters -Super Handy(very light ,but unstable and does not fold flat) Atto Sport (well made but too heavy even when split and complicated very limited on rough ground) Supa Sport Rugged universal use well made but heavy to use.
What I needed for this trip to Alaska was a lightweight portable usable fold flat no nonsense scooter.
I phoned Monarch in Halifax and found their sales staff to be helpful, informative, and straightforward to deal with.
After a home visit, no sales pressure just a demonstration and explanation of all models I was impressed with their down to earth approach and purchased a Genie Ultralite.
It is not as good as the Supa Scoota for rough terrain,which we normally use with our motorhome, but it is more portable and will traverse dry grass and tracks for short distances.
We were using Planes, Buses, Boats, Ships, and Cars, taxis,all of which were managed with ease.
Removing the airline-approved battery for flying was a doddle on all flights except Heathrow we took the scooter to the plane and collected it directly outside the exit on arrival,for some reason at Heathrow I had to collect 100 meters away in an exit passage.
On my return I reported to Monarch one small fault (loose Knob) and made some suggestions to improve usage.
One of their directors phoned me to look into my suggestions and they have sent a technician down to fix the knob (I live in Sussex 250 MLS from Halifax).
Same straight forward no nonsense service that attracted me to them in the first place.
In short our trip of a lifetime was greatly enhanced using this scooter backed up by the no nonsense the service from the supplier.

The scooter tipped me off a flat pavement onto the road and I had a few scabs and bruises Next day the wheel fell off.Repair man said it was a manufacturing fault .Monarch gave a half hearted sorry but no compensation or exchange of scooter offered I returned scooter and now I have to pay motability £250 to end my contract It was the first time it had ever been outside on a pavement Monarch mobility have had zero contact with me over this

It was with great pleasure doing business with Monarch Mobility - my request for help in choosing a particular wheelchair became a relaxed treat rather than a nightmare wondering if I was getting it right! Martin came down and demonstrated a beautiful chair that my son was able to handle immediately. I went on to Monarch Mobility to arrange for a home demonstration. Then I thought I would check out the trusty Trust Pilot. Having read the negative reviews, I decided not to use them. Think I have had a luck escape. So thank you for all your reviews. You have probably saved me a lot of expense and distress. I'm sorry for all the people that have had so much trouble with them. I hope they got decent scooters in the end.

Misleading Monarch Mobility advertising.
I have just purchased a Brand New Monarch Genie Mobility Scooter (8th/03rd/2025) ( albeit from an other retailer) . Although I find it a very good robust scooter I have a few concerns regarding ‘Monarch Mobility’ themselves. There are 3 reasons I decided to purchase a Monarch Genie.. A/ The rear suspension B/The advertised weight of 16.85 Kgs ( minus battery) C/ The advertised fitted Honeycomb tyres.
However, although the weight is boasted in the advertisements of 16.85 kgs ( without Battery) and they even show a lady lifting their Genie mobility scooter above her head, it is Not 16.85 Kgs, it is 19kgs (without battery) and this ( 19kgs) is actually stated in the Monarch Genie manual booklet that came with my Genie mobility scooter. It also states (and shows) in its advertising and in my manual booklet, that it comes with Honeycomb tyres fitted. It DOESN’T , it actually comes with just ordinary standard solid tyres. Both these claims in their advertising are in my view, misleading and may even be contrary to the trades descriptions act. ( I will check this with trades descriptions however) .I have contacted Monarch Mobility (Politely) but they are not responding back to me. I have given 3 stars because, barring the issues raised here, it is still actually a very good mobility scooter, but it is minus two of the reasons I decided to purchase it in the first place and I would probably have purchased one of two other makes of mobility scooter I had on my preferred list if I had been aware of these two things.

Very poor response to scooter…
Very poor response to scooter reliability issues, even though I paid £2795 for a smarti plus scooter and it is still under warranty. They basically do not employ sufficient engineers to respond to the multitude of problems that go wrong with the scooters. The arm fell off my scooter over 2 weeks ago, and I've had problems with the arms before. I am still waiting for a freelance engineer to attend, but he's having to attend to other jobs all over Wales. A friend managed to re-attach the arms, but it is obvious that the bolt needs replacing. I've made 3 phone calls and spoke to the engineer, without success. I am a disabled person, working full time in the NHS, and I rely on my scooter to get to work! I previously had a smarti scooter from Monarch. I would advise anybody not to buy a smarti plus. The smarti is a superior model, is better made, and cheaper. When I bought the smarti plus I thought it would be an upgrade, but how wrong I was. Monarch could have asked me if I have used their products before and advised me that I would be better simply replacing the smarti! The smarti plus is 6cm taller, according to the manufacturer this isn't compatible with my car. Monarch managed to adapt the hoist, but it has damaged my car, and I have had to go back to the mobility company to re-adjust the hoist! I feel the disabled are constantly taken advantage of, paying a lot of money for poor services! Shame on them!
No Show
I have 24/7 recovery insurance with Mark Baits and yesterday my mobility scooter broke down. As it was a Sunday Mark Baits office's was closed and I could not find the emergancy phone number anywhere online. The search engine kept taking me to Monarch Mobility phone number so I called them. I was told they can help and I gave all my information, where I was, phone number etc. I was told a breakdown recovery company would call me. That was yesterday and I am still waiting. When the bank holiday is over with I will follow what happened up.

Lack of service from Monarch…
I purchased a Monarch Smarti mobility scooter and twice requested an engineer to check out the opening and closing mechanism. I waited a week for a call from the engineer to call and had to get it checked by another supplier. The second time I waited ten days during this time confined to my house! I went to another engineer and it took five minutes to diagnose and fix the problem. Incidentally Monarchs website quotes six months warrantee. Monarchs telephone service operator assured me their warrantee was for a year. I said the warrantee was worthless if you don't receive service. I said not to worry as I certainly would not be buying anther scooter from Monarch!
