Extremely disappointing experience — damage claim ignored for months

In March 2026, I hired Midland Van Lines to perform a residential move from Dallas, Texas to Frisco, Texas. As part of my moving agreement, I purchased a $5,000 of Full Value Protection coverage for an additional cost of $500 to protect my belongings in the event of damage during the move. Upon delivery on March 21, 2026, a concrete bistro table was damaged during transit. The tabletop sustained a broken edge. I promptly notified Midland Van Lines of the damage and provided photographs documenting the condition of the item, and after finished the unpacking process, on March 25, 2026, I submitted proof of cost showing the replacement value of the table. At that time, I requested instructions regarding the claims process and resolution under the protection coverage I had purchased. After receiving no response, I sent follow-up inquiries on April 1 and April 9, requesting confirmation that my claim was being reviewed, a status update, and information regarding next steps. Having received no communication, I sent another formal follow-up on May 11, 2026, expressing my concerns regarding the complete lack of response. Later that same day, Midland Van Lines replied, apologized for the delay, and stated that the matter had been forwarded to its Claims Department. The company specifically advised that a Claims Department representative would contact me within 24–72 hours regarding the status of my claim and the next steps in the process. Despite that assurance, no one from Midland Van Lines has ever contacted me. Since that communication on May 11, 2026, I have not been reached by email, telephone, or mail, nor received no claim status update, no request for additional information, no explanation regarding the delay, and no proposed resolution. Because of the continued lack of response, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on July 7, 2026. On August 6, I received an update from the BBB stating that Midland Van Lines had not responded to the complaint to date. I find it extremely disappointing that a company can sell customers additional protection coverage, fail to address a documented claim, promise a response within 24–72 hours, and then provide no communication for months. The fact that the company has also failed to respond to the BBB complaint makes this experience even more concerning. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering Midland Van Lines carefully research the company and understand how its claims process is handled before booking a move. Based on my personal experience, I DO NOT recommend Midland Van Lines.

⭐☆☆☆☆

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about my experience with Midland Van Lines.

At the time of my move, I was a 25-year-old woman moving across the country by myself. I did my due diligence by completing a virtual walkthrough of everything I owned before booking. Based on that walkthrough, Stephen Groff quoted my move at approximately $13,000, and I budgeted accordingly.

One thing I wish I had known before signing a contract is that once everything was booked, communication was practically nonexistent. I received little to no updates leading up to my move. The movers simply showed up a full day earlier than expected without warning or coordination.

Once they arrived, I was told that my belongings required a much larger truck and that my price was increasing by nearly $10,000. I was essentially told I could either accept the new price or not move. At that point, I had already accepted a new job across the country and had no realistic option but to pay.

One of the younger movers privately told both me and my boyfriend that we were being scammed. I never shared that publicly because I didn’t want him to lose his job, but looking back, I wish I had listened.

At first, I was told I was welcome to watch my belongings being loaded into the truck. After they built divider walls inside the trailer, I was suddenly told I was no longer allowed to look inside. A different driver refused to let me access the trailer. The younger mover later told us they had left three to four feet of empty space between the divider walls instead of packing the trailer efficiently, despite charging me based on the amount of trailer space my belongings supposedly occupied.

I specifically asked them to open the side door of the trailer so I could see how my belongings were packed. They refused. Looking back, that was another huge red flag. If everything had been packed the way they claimed, there should have been no issue allowing me to see it.

Throughout the process, I felt dismissed, intimidated, and completely taken advantage of. I genuinely felt like they knew I had no choice but to pay whatever they demanded after my belongings were already on the truck.

Then came the delivery.

I was originally told my belongings would arrive in approximately 5–7 days. Instead, they took 23 days to arrive. During that time, communication was almost nonexistent. I repeatedly tried to get updates and rarely received any meaningful information.

Fortunately, I had placed an AirTag inside one of my belongings. Instead of seeing my shipment making progress across the country, I watched it sit in the same lot for days. Without the AirTag, I would have had no idea where my possessions were because the company provided virtually no updates.

I understand that things can occasionally get damaged during a long-distance move. That’s honestly not my biggest complaint. My biggest complaint is what I believe was a bait-and-switch pricing tactic, followed by poor communication and a complete lack of transparency. I was quoted one price, then pressured into paying nearly $10,000 more after my belongings were already in their possession.

That unexpected increase left me financially struggling for months. No one should be put in that position.

I also dealt with Gary, who conveniently never provided me with his last name. Between my interactions with Gary and Stephen Groff, I was left feeling completely misled from start to finish. Based on my experience, I would never hire either of them again for any move, and I would strongly encourage anyone considering Midland Van Lines to look elsewhere.

If I could do it over again, I would rent a PODS container, hire local movers to load it, and let PODS transport it. It would have been far more transparent, and I believe it would have saved me thousands of dollars.

Please learn from my experience. Do your research before hiring this company. Once they have your belongings on the truck, you lose almost all of your leverage. I would never use Midland Van Lines again and cannot recommend them to anyone planning a long-distance move.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

If there was a way to leave a -5 review, I would. IF YOU HAVE STARTED CONTACT WITH THIS COMPANY, RUN THE OTHER WAY!
We were lied to from day one. The so-called rep from the company, Jacob, lied and talked pretty until the contract was signed. We were told he would be in touch on a regular basis; that we would have a one-week conversation with him to confirm the quantity of our shipment, that we would have regular help, and that we would have minimum 24-hour notice once the final few days of potential pick up was settle. IT WAS ALL A LIE. We left multiple messages for a call back and never heard from Jacob again.
We got a 15-minute warning call from the driver on moving day. We are not trained movers and had not way to figure the volume; needless to say our prices more than doubled, then at the last moment the driver said said "we can't take anymore." We moved last September and I am still trying to get the rest of my belongings from the different people we had to pawn them off on.
My very expensive electric leather reclincer has two holes in it. One floor lamp had the globe destroyed, and the other never made it; another lamp was broken and the shade crushed. A picture frame was broken when they were loading and an irreplacable picture of my mother and step-father on their wedding day was laying on a closet floor. My sewing machine was damaged - something hit it so hard that the top was caved in. The glass door of my antique lawyer's shelf was broken out.
We were told that Midland owns their own trucks, that our property would not be offloaded on the trip, and that the drivers work for them. IT WAS ALL A LIE.
The delivery was several days later than planned because they took it on themselves to use my instructions that we would not be at the destination BUT MY ADULT DAUGHTER, WITH WHOM WE WERE MOVING IN, WOULD BE. Then the arrival time was advised with about a 30 minute warning.
Oh, yes, the .56 cent or so damage coverage in the contract would have allowed maybe a max of $45-$50 for all this trauma.

DON'T DO IT

Christian, our initial sales rep, completely lied about every aspect of our cross-country move. Said we could contact him throughout the whole process...once we signed the contract, we never could get in touch with him again. From here, the movers showed up and our estimate DOUBLED day of the move. Not only that, but the movers said our belongings would be at our new destination within 4 days (we were told 2-4 weeks). So we rushed to get into our new apartment only for them to then say it was going to be closer to 2-3 weeks. Called multiple times for updates & they had none to provide us with. We understood the timeline we agreed to; what we didn't understand was the lack of updates and different responses we were getting when speaking to different individuals. I would not recommend them ever, but if you do decide to ignore their terrible rating and hire them, do yourself a favor and put airtags in your boxes. That will be the best way to know where your belongings are since they won't let you know themselves. Save yourself the trouble though an avoid them at all costs!

STAY AWAY. Unethical Practices

Where do I start.. If I could give a 0 rating I would. When contracting "Midland Van lines" I was quoted $6,367.47. This quote was after we reviewed all items we were moving. Fast forward to move date, after loading I was told the cost was $15,285. This was more than double what was quoted. To add the head worker the day of moving had the nerve to also press/harass us to give them a 20% tip before they left. To add the Midland sales rep told us they only use their own staff. Not the case at all. Both day of move and day of delivery 3rd party contract workers did the job. Midland Van lines need to be investigated for fraud as they are complete thieves. I suggest staying away from this unethical company.

Worst moving experience ever

Worst moving experience ever! They say “we only use midland employees to do our moves and don’t contract out”. The movers that showed up weren’t “Midland” movers, they were late, stayed until 1 AM instead of coming back the next day, and charged us way more than the quote. And they didn’t even take everything. We had to get additional moving equipment to finish the job. Do not use them!!

BEWARE!! Scammers and hustlers!!!!

Since we have chosen these Movers, it is been an absolute headache. The price has purple since originally quoted and no one talk to anyone in that company and I got lower level employees texting me about where their money is when they have changed their W9 form.
At this point, I would’ve rather got a U-Haul and counted on a couple of friends to load my stuff upbecause this is insane the amount of harassment we’re getting from them.
Please do your research and read the reviews before hiring a moving company!!!

Terrible experience with this company…

The experience with this company moving from east coast to west coast was terrible. The estimate was too low. They charged me a about $2000 more. When I shared the address, they delivered my belongings 2 weeks later. The people in dispatch office were very rude and unfriendly. Many items/boxes were broken and completely damaged and I was told they would not do any compensation. Will never do any business with them again.

When planning a move do NOT choose Midland Van Lines

When planning a move, some things might seem obvious. You want to get a price for getting your belongings packed, placed on a truck, and delivered safely to your new home. You might also consider guarantees regarding the possibility of a loss due to damage or misplaced items. The quality of all of the work being offered also matters.

Well, Midland Van Lines fell far short in every category and many others. Beware! This company is NOT a moving company with trucks and workers that are hired and supervised by a corporate structure. The fact is that the moving company business consists of movers and those who contract with movers. Midland will work very hard to convince you, if you inquire, that they are a full-service moving company. Do NOT believe them. They are a contractor. We saw two different trucks and two different crews. The competence of each crew was also quite different.

Read their contract carefully if you are foolish enough to hire them. Two items stand out. They cover loss by paying by the pound but charge for the move by the cubic foot. They pay 60 cents a pound for damaged items. They do not cover any furniture made with fiberboard, such as almost all furniture sold by IKEA. Midland Van Lines failed to give me a set price. They gave me an estimate, called one week before the move, and altered it based on exact descriptions of items. They then upcharge for that change. We refused to accept the higher estimate. On the day of the move, the contract states that you shouldn’t allow the movers to place any items on the truck until they give you a guaranteed final price. They refused. Now what could we do? We were stuck. So, delay our move? Not possible in almost any scenario, right? So, we let them load the truck. When finished, they said, we will either lower or raise the price based on the final cubic feet calculations. Did we get to measure? No, we had to trust them. The contract meant nothing. The increased cost was $1282.80.

Now, about our move. They lost items and couldn’t find them. They delivered items that weren’t ours and didn’t attempt to recover them for their owners. They refused to cover the loss because of that fiberboard clause. They offered a $50 courtesy payment for my loss of over $450 of items that didn’t arrive. Two different moving crews and trucks were involved in my move. I paid three different entities, and only one was Midland Van Lines. The others were all contractors.

You will find many reviews of this company, and they will all include some version of our story. Hire a company that gives you a set price, reasonable guarantees for loss, and has equipment and crew hired by them. This usually means someone local. Beware, some companies are NOT local and have similar or the same name as local companies.

We believe our move was unsatisfactory due to the upcharge and undelivered items.

We are selling our apartment and moving…

We are selling our apartment and moving from New York to Minneapolis, so we were looking for a moving company to transport our belongings and furniture. A man named Ryan (neither he nor any other company employees ever provided a last name) from Midland Van Lines called us; he claimed they were a licensed company—unlike many others—and that they could be trusted. He asked us to send photos of the furniture and items we intended to ship. I sent him everything in great detail, and he estimated the delivery cost at $4,300, requiring a $1,500 deposit; he assured us that once the deposit was paid, we would be free to reschedule our move-out date to any other day or month. I told him the price was acceptable, and he sent over a contract, which I signed—though even then, doubts began to creep in, as the company's email address was not a professional business account linked to their official website, but rather a standard personal Gmail address. I sent them the deposit via Zelle, and we agreed upon a schedule. However, our departure from the apartment was delayed by two weeks. Nine days before the scheduled move-out date, I called Ryan to notify him of the change; the person who answered the phone told me that Ryan was unavailable—and that they didn't know when, or even if, he would ever return—and asked what I wanted. I explained that I was a client of theirs, that I had paid a deposit, and that I needed to reschedule my move-out date by two weeks. They replied, "No problem," but asked me to send photos of the furniture and items. When I informed them that I had already sent everything to Ryan, the employee I was speaking with claimed that there were absolutely no photos—nor any record of a delivery price estimate—in their files. When I forwarded them my entire email correspondence with Ryan, including all the photos, they told me—quite predictably—that the cost of shipping those items could not possibly be $4,500; rather, it would be a minimum of $8,500—if not $10,000. Naturally, I was outraged and told them that I was canceling our contract. They then informed me that they would not refund my deposit because—according to their website (though not the contract itself)—if a cancellation occurs less than 10 days in advance, the deposit is non-refundable; and, predictably, they did not return it. They are nothing but common crooks; if you don't want to lose your money, never get involved with this sham of a company.

Honestly if I could give 0 stars I…

Honestly if I could give 0 stars I would. This company is AWFUL and so disrespectful, please do NOT use them. They refused to give us copies of our paperwork, then took a deposit and picked up our stuff. Once they picked it up they tripled the fee and held our stuff hostage. They lied about the total cubic feet and when we provided documentation they just say they will have someone look into it and you can get a refund later. Our quote went from $6,000 to well over $18,500 for our move. When we needed our stuff delivered they claimed they did not know where it was for over two weeks! Thankfully we got the drivers info at pickup and reached out to him directly. They will only accept cash after the initial payments and will NOT give you a receipt for payments, a inventory list or copies of your bill of lading which is all needed to file a claim for overcharge and broken items. They broke (3 tv's, entire bedroom set, table, chairs, bookshelves, $6,000 sofa, plus a lot more an they refuse to do anything. When they give you the info to file your claim be prepared to jump through hoops. 6 months after you file they will change companies and you will have to start over with a new one. The new company will ask you for documents Midlandvanlines refuses to provide. Then they will claim that you are passed you allowed time to get documents and they no longer have records available. This is the WORST moving company and they are crooks! You will never get a call back and they will never do what they say they will. Please save yourself the stress, irritation, frustration and thousands of dollars and use anyone else but this company!.

Avoid this company at all costs!!!!

I only gave them 1 star because I had to. Avoid this company at all costs!!!!They will give you a blind quote over the phone purposely leave me things out so they can charge you more when they come pick up your stuff. For example, I told them I had two beds one queen and one king. When they got there to move my property, they called me stating that I didn’t tell them that I had a headboard and a boxsprings. I only told them about the mattress. How would I know as the customer that I need to break down every piece of a bed and the representative did not ask me. So that’s one of the ways that they get more money out of you when they go pick up your items. They stating that those items were not on the list. However I did put 12 boxes on the quote but ,told me they can only take a couple boxes because I was over my cubic feet limit. How would I be over my cubic feet if that’s what you quoted me for. So they pick and choose when they want to go off the quote. Also, when the mover arrived there to pick up my items, they said that I underbid and they tried to charge me an additional $3500.00 to move my items . I refused. These people are crooks. They have terrible customer service. I tried to address my concerns with the manager Leslie. Leslie was very unprofessional, she had a nasty attitude. She was very, very rude. I don’t know how they are number one on google. But what I didn’t check is the reviews on Reddit, which are terrible! Please beware of majorities of moving companies because they will give you a blind quote over phone and get to your home and charge you triple the price because they know that you want your stuff moved or you might be in a situation where you can’t do nothing but pay them. I learned the best thing to do is find a company they can go actually look at your items so they can give you an accurate quote and no surprises on moving day. You’ve
been warned!!

Do NOT use this company

Do NOT use this company! They say they use their own trucks for better control. Not true. Subcontractors were used and they even rented trucks. They will not let you talk to a manager. They “have to put a ticket” in and say they’ll call back. Never happens. They made me request to speak to a manager in writing via email. Got the canned response, but never got to talk to a manager for over a month!

We specifically called to move a safe and a few family heirlooms. We paid extra for the safe. Their “moving professionals” told me it was impossible to move the safe when they got there. I had to tell them how to do it! Our family heirlooms were one-of-kind items that they broke, unwrapped and threw the broken pieces inside, and wrapped them back up! They apparently tried to pry open the sides of a brand new trunk. Thank goodness we had a lock on it. Terrible moving service. Terrible customer service. Terrible communication. They don’t even deserve 1 star! Very deceptive marketing. I saw positive reviews with a 4.9 rating in, come to find out, their paid ads. Oh how I wish I had looked at google reviews first.

The worst experience…

As someone else said if I could choose zero stars I would! I’ve moved at least 15 times in my life and this is absolutely the worst experience I’ve ever had. Someone else mentioned lie after lie which is absolutely my experience as well. The price has gone up 3 to 4 times since signing and placing a deposit; they are not family owned. It’s all a hoax to steer you away from other reputable moving companies. The customer service is zero, they were supposed to bring wardrobes, boxes, and wrapping items. They brought none and asked me if I had boxes when they arrived! They placed all of my business attire and gowns in boxes that you would normally move kitchen items in.
I was told that four Movers would be coming and three arrived.
I can go on and on, but the bottom line is stay away from this company they’re horrible, there’s no integrity no customer service and it’s all the money game to them.

This email to Tom Segura of Midland Van…

This email to Tom Segura of Midland Van Lines pretty much sums up their business ethics…

“Tom,
It’s pretty genius, but I never heard of it - change order moving service? The problem is you didn’t specify the right sized truck. Matter of fact you weren’t even close. I had to rent a 15x10 U-Haul today and loaded to it to the gills with my wife which is 52 like me. You could have made even more money? Moving forward try to be better at your job for the sake of considering other humans. I work in the commercial roofing industry as a material salesman and GC and I treat my customers like gold and never do business with contractors who play the change order game. In summary, be a better person or maybe go work for a company that has higher standards and learn what that looks like.”

Additionally, at delivery we had multiple items that were damaged and missing.

STAY AWAY FROM MIDLAND VANLINES

Beware

Beware: Bait and Switch. I signed a binding contract to move from one state to another. A week before the move, they texted me at 10.24 pm on a Friday night. Then called me the following day at 3.25 pm demanding an increase of up to $7,000. When I refused to be extorted and cancelled, they stopped answering emails and phone calls. They have withheld my deposit. I have filed with the NY Attorney General at this time. Do not trust their "binding" estimates, they will wait until you are vulnerable to hike the price by thousands.

Run as fast as you can from this…

Run as fast as you can from this company! Do NOT use their services. Buyer beware: Their sales reps were top notch but once the down payment was made you never heard from them again nor could you reach them. That already should tell you something. Also, I am writing this review 9 months after our move as my goal is to share this review with as many outlets as possible to hopefully help others avoid the same pain we experienced. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Pricing was double the quote and our quote was based on us giving them a detailed inventory list. Once down payment was made we had to chase them for the supposed “quality control call” that was to take place several days before the pickup date. This call also served the anppare purpose of finalizing your inventory list upon which they plan their space on the truck and upon which your total cost is based. Even after that was done, we heard nothing from the dispatcher the morning of. Our move took place in June which we understand is peak season for household moving companies. As a 35 year veteran of international shipping, I know a thing or two about moving things and fully appreciate what peak season is about and how no company can staff for it. As a result I thought I exhibited lots of patience with this company until their behavior bordered on criminal. They promised us delivery within a certain range and when that passed and I heard nothing I became concerned so I called but could not get past a call center person who simply repeated that someone will call me. I asked who but no names were given. After this went on for some days I got angry and threatened legal action and demanded a manager. Only then did I get that person but they too had no info for me telling me they had to wait on the dispatcher to call them - meanwhile said dispatcher was a subcontractor who they had little control over. On top of that their supervisor or manager was rude. I can go on but to keep this concise, when the move in finally was being arranged on the day of the dispatcher told me we owed more money and unless we paid he couldn’t deliver!!! I explained the amount requested was already paid at pickup. As dispatcher did not have access to the system to confirm this he held firm telling me if in fact we paid again it would be reimbursed. At this point I was beyond angry and demanded to speak with the owner of Midland figuring any decent owner would be willing to speak with an angry client and make matters right. Dispatcher gave me all kinds of excuses- it’s the weekend, etc but even refused to give me the owners name or cell phone number. In the end we had no choice but to send the money via Zelle which we did get refunded the following week. After it was all said and done we had some damages and breakages for which we filed a small claim for $500. We self packed the goods and as a 35 year shipping industry veteran we packed our items professionally. Some glasses broke which we know could happen but some furniture pieces which midland packed were damaged. Guess what? We never once received an acknowledgment of our claim much less a settlement offer. With all the fine print on their bill of lading I did not expect them to admit liability much less offer us money. I filed the claim mainly to annoy them and force them to work some more on my case which in the end, they simply walked away from without the decency of acknowledgment. This was the single worst experience I have ever had in my life and I counsel anyone considering a move with midland van lines to definitely find another company to work with. I understand household moves never go flawlessly but to have such a lack of customer service and caring is something I have never experienced in my life. This experience makes dealing with your cable provider or cell phone provider look like a joy. Do yourself a favor and Stay away from Midland Van Lines at all costs.
