I placed an order for a years subscription to the chemistry kit. To start with everything went well, my son enjoyed the first few and delivery to France was fine (they advertise in France so obviously targeting the French market). Then with no prior warning they switched my son to another kit, which he found boring and was not what I ordered. When I enquired they apologised and switched him back to chemistry. Since then we have been charged 15 Euros per month by the postal service for them to deliver the box for unpaid taxes. the boxes have been sent from China with incorrect customs paperwork. I refused to pay the last charge so the box was sent back and I have now cancelled the subscription. A disappointment to say the least. Completely unprofessional, spend your money elsewhere.

We have received MEL Science kits for 3 years and have been very happy with the projects. Some were easier than others to complete and our son loved the challange. He loved getting something in the mail just for him and then assembling and learning how science works and how these kits apply in real life. We would google and look on YouTube for how these projects apply in real life physics and chemistry. Customer service has always been very helpful. Thank you.

This review is for our trial kit for physics. We just completed the luminescence. I have two neurodiverse children, including one that is nonverbal. They both were mesmerized by this kit. I loved the explanation of molecules, protons, luminescence, fluorescence and phosphorescence. I wish I had these kits when I was younger. I also just received a medical kit for the first time. We have not tried it yet. I thought I was getting therapy but instead received urinalysis. That is kind of a rough one to introduce a kid to, and I did message the company about it today, but we will see how it goes.

Highly Satisfied with MEL Science: A Valuable Educational Resource.

I’ve been a subscriber to MEL Science for quite some time now, and so far, I’ve received 11 boxes covering various topics in chemistry and physics. I’m extremely satisfied with my decision to choose this subscription. With a MSc degree and a Ph.D. in biochemistry, I’m well-versed in these subjects, and I specifically chose MEL Science to introduce my children to the world of science. I’m genuinely impressed by how effectively the principles of chemistry and physics are communicated through their products. The experiments are relatively simple and quick to perform, but they are also fun and engaging, allowing us to put into practice concepts that often remain theoretical in textbooks.

I would love to meet the people behind these projects and personally commend them, as it takes both passion and expertise to create such educational and enjoyable products. Moreover, the cost of the subscription includes shipping, which I find very reasonable. I live in Europe, and on two occasions when I had to pay for shipping because the products were coming from outside the EU, MEL Science demonstrated great integrity and honesty by reimbursing me within an hour of notifying their customer service.

Overall, I highly recommend this product and encourage skeptics to give it a try. I’ve been thoroughly pleased with it. In the worst-case scenario, you can opt for a monthly subscription, which you can cancel or pause at any time.

Clear instructions, user friendly projects for a teenager struggling with science grades! Great way to re-introduce fun to students on the home front.

Same experience as others: once you subscribe, it’s impossible to unsuscribe. They state that “the site is under maintenance” on purpose. It is a SCAM. I have been trying to cancel for the last 3 days, and it’s impossible. They make it impossible on purpose to steal your money.

My family has enjoyed these unique kits, it has increased their interest in science. I suggest that parents support the children because some of the explanations are hard for kids to follow.
The customer service has been great.

Please approach this company with caution.
I wanted to unsuscribe/pause subscription, but when I went into my account the section for account controls was in maintenance, this was November 2023. I e ded up having to go through my bank as a dispute to block payments, I had to be issued new card details and a new card just to block melscience from future payments... fast forward to today, January 11th 2024 and low and behold a melscience payment leaves my account... but not entirely sure how they managed to steal my money... because that's what they did, they do not have access to my a bank due to new banking details and they pulled it off.... dumbfounded I went to my melscience account( because I have absolutely zero access to delete anything to do with melscience, like a child on parental locks on their tablet.
Abolsutely shocking how they treat customers as children and do not give you access to pause or unsubscribe due to the account section always being in maintenance.
The kits are probably worth £10-15 at most and nowhere near £34-35 price mark.
Due to my issue of them finding a way to steal from me I am now taking this to trading standards as well as my bank (AGAIN)

I ordered a kit for my daughter and received the gyroscope. The 'science' didn't feel particularly well explained, and I felt the AR element was a bit gimmicky rather than educational. The kit was quickly assembled but due to poor quality materials, broke the first time we tried to change the discs (as per the instructions). Saw another reviewer here had a similar experience so this doesn't feel like an isolated incident. I informed support of this issue over a month ago and still have not received a response.

Charged $539 and in addition for each package additional $14 at the time of pick up of delivery. Original order was supposed to be included with Shipping.

Feel cheated and betrayed. Waiting for response but the US office is not responding.

George responded to my request and I am told that the issue will be taken care of and I won’t be in the hook for additional shipment fees. I much appreciate this clarification and help. Thank you.

Update: Mel science - please re-read the review. A confirmation of cancellation was received. No, the customer did not forget to cancel. Mel science restarted the subscription.
It is really unfortunate to write this because my son really did like the experiments. We got 3 months as a gift, then the gift giver cancelled the subscription (has a confirmation email saying so). MEL science then reinstated the subscription after the confirmation of cancelation and started charging the gift giver again...for 3 more sets! I now have another set I need to return in order for her to get a refund. (the least they could do is let us keep the set since it was their mistake).
They did refund for the 2 packages not yet shipped with only a "sorry to lose you as a customer" as a response.
If you take a chance with this company be sure to watch your credit card charges VERY carefully.

Having an awful time with Mel science. They make it virtually impossible to cancel a subscription with a broken link. I emailed twice and still no cancellation. They took unauthorised payment from me of over £44 and the refund is taking such a long time to be cleared via PayPal ‘e check’ . Pay pal emailed today to say the refund is taking longer than expected. They gave a telephone number for support, which was one of Mel science staff personal mobile, and I have just had a bizarre interaction with that. Seriously MEL, sort yourselves out! I absolutely do NOT recommend this. The chemistry science we initially did was average and my son lost interest immediately. Tried to cancel. Very untrustworthy and feels like a scam.

Absolute joke of a product. I ordered a free box for which I had to pay £5.00 for delivery and honestly, I feel as if I've been robbed of a fiver. Received a "Gyroscope". We built it in 5 minutes and it broke in 10. It's an extremely poor product and these guys are trying to sell it for £39.99 a month.
Canceled subscription immediately.

We ordered the chemistry set (10+)for my 9yo son. The experiments are over very quickly for the price, with minimal scientific education. Very disappointed! I don't know if thr VR lessons are where the knowledge part is at, but we can't access these on Android, which was NOT pointed out upon subscription. Received an email to apologise for inconvenience and stating Android app will be available "in the near future" seriously?! I requested a partial refund as we can only access a part of what was sold to us. No response. Will cancel subscription. Don't waste your time or money, it's very basic.

The boxes were OK, until they removed their printed instructions and forced us to use an app. We paid for a year in advance, under the terms that instructions would be included.

Now, you have to install an app. For a box for kids! I contacted customer service, and they claimed they were unable to provide a pdf. Then, magically, after I asked for a refund, they provided 1 pdf but refused to provide others.

Run. this is not an ethical company.

In response to MEL -- this is the first time anybody at MEL has mentioned this is limited. I have my doubts based on the number of other complaints. If it was limited, why did your staff refuse, on multiple occasions, to provide me with electronic instructions? If it was limited, why was I not given the option of a box with printed instructions?

Since the program is limited, will you make me whole by shipping the printed instructions I paid for? That should be easy, given other customers who are not in this limited trial are getting them.

I paid for a year in advance for 2 kids..so In total this was extremely expensive when you factor in conversion to australian dollars and shipping.

We received our first box, and installed the Mel Science app. It looked very good, and the app knew which packs had been shipped to us.

HOWEVER - it is impossible to use any of the features. In the app there is a 'Start Lesson' button against the particular set. This simply opens a link saying we need to install another app from the app store - MEL STEM. On selecting this, it just presents an error message saying 'try again later'. Tried on 2 android devices and 1 apple device, same issue.

So the online lessons are no good, which includes scanning the cards that come in the box etc.

Reached out to the Mel Science team and requested help twice over the period of a few weeks. Apart from an auto mailer response and a case that sits in 'Open' status, NOTHING has been done, no response to my questions, no help, no feedback.

So we're stuck with 1.5k worth of cheap-ish wooden sets that have no underlying educational value unless I research and teach the concepts myself.

Very disappointed in this kit. One part arrived broken, extremely fiddly to put together, keeps falling apart and doesn't work because the launcher to shoot the ball is too high and doesn't actually touch the ball to launch it. Very frustrating and too expensive for a box full of cheap wood that doesn't fit together properly. Won't buy again.

There are not recorded lessons for most of the physics kits we have received. We have subscribed for over a year, but we are done. Check out generation genius. They have recorded lessons!

Très très mauvais service client. 3 semaines après avoir reçu la notification d’envoi, je contacte DHL qui me répond ne pas encore avoir eu le colis malgré la notification électronique automatique et m’invite à contacter l’expéditeur. Le service client se borne à me renvoyer au suivi colis sur DHL puis ne me répond plus… je vois mal comment la situation se débloquerait toute seule. les expériences sont certainement très bien mais encore faut il les recevoir…

I love Mel science! The experiments are easy to follow and come with videos that explain the lesson. They're clear enough that a tween could do them, though I usually do them with a group of kids.
