Served food until 4pm but also closes at 4pm according to the staff- make that make sense. We ordered 2 baked potatoes (over priced at that) and a wrap to share with our two kids around 3:35pm. Another family were doing the same outside in the bothy and by 4pm a member of staff was mopping around us and hurrying us out. Loads of staff came to the bothy with cleaning products as if to say “out you get” which was so ridiculous and very rude. When I asked to speak to a manager she said they close at 4pm and I questioned why they serve food until 4pm then. She said an adult would be expected to quickly eat and leave by 4:15pm as all the staff finish at 5pm. Next point- the farm shop is operational until 5pm so how are all the staff leaving by 5pm? It makes no sense to not give customers until closing time of the whole place to enjoy their food and leave. I’ve worked in hospitality for a number of years and we would never start cleaning up around people especially if it wasn’t clear when people were expected to leave by. Sounds to me like the staff are in a hurry to get home and not make it an enjoyable experience for their customers. There’s a reason it’s not so busy there anymore- making it family friendly, when you have a play park, is not their priority. Go down the road to forest farm where they are going out of their way to make it an enjoyable experience for all the family. Won’t be coming back. Overpriced. Over rated and not family friendly.

My wife and I visited today (20th July 2026) with our granddaughter. We ordered two lentil soups, one chicken brochette, one cheese and ham toastie, and a small bottle of water each. The total came to £49.

The prices were absolutely outrageous. £12 for a cheese and ham toastie is excessive, especially when it came with no side salad or fries—just a very basic toastie. The lentil soup was also disappointing, consisting mainly of carrots and turnips with very few lentils. Paying £3.95 for a small bottle of water only added to the feeling that everything was overpriced.

Overall, the food was poor value for money and left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, this experience means I won't be returning, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for good value or quality.

I am a regular customer and visitor to the shop. My six year old daughter loves coming to the shop and making good use of the play park at the rear. We have been coming here for years.
Visited today, arrived about 3:30pm with my daughter and 67 year old mum. We were in the play park and it was pretty quiet. After about 4pm we were the only ones there.
My daughter and I were on the large buggies going round the track. A member of staff came out and shouted over at me that adults weren't allowed on the buggies, quickly turned and hurried away. This disappointed my wee girl as we were having fun. We were not abusing the buggies, going fast or crashing them. I got off the buggy and my daughter wanted a shot of the circular swing. I shoved her on that for a few minutes then she wanted to play on the normal swings with me. We both went on the swings and within a couple of minutes another member of staff came out and told me that the equipment was for children only. I challenged this politely and asked since when we're adults not allowed to use any of the equipment or sit on a swing? She said "since forever". I made here aware that we were regular visitors to the store, have used the play park umpteen times, witnessed other adults on the equipment - playing with their kids etc and I have never witnessed anyone being told to get off the equipment. She then told me "the equipment was reserved for under 12s". I pointed out that we were the only three people there and I wasn't preventing other kids from using the equipment or causing damage/ abusing the stuff. She just said, yeah because we're closed. This was before 4:30pm. The shop doesn't close till 5pm.
Anytime I visit I always spend a small fortune. The last time we were here the three of us had lunch and got ice creams which cost over £50. I then purchased fancy cheeses, meats, pate, crackers, duck and geese eggs from the store as well as bags of sweets etc. As I do everytime I visit.
I had intended to spend some money in the shop and ironically, we were just about to leave the play park and go to the shop.
I will now no longer be visiting the store and wont be spending another penny in it.
Jobsworth staff out spoiling the fun of a dad and his 6 year old daughter for no reason. These people seem to forget who pays their wages.

I am a regular customer to your restaurant and have never been disappointed - I am gluten free ( celiacs ) and the menu selection is fantastic - special mention has to go to the delicious GF breakfast and the toast is amazing. Also wide selection of GF home bakes are most welcomed
I have to say this is one of the best places for a gluten free breakfast !
So thank you again for all your efforts in supporting our GF needs.

One cheese sandwich and one ham sandwich with one small coffee came to £19.37. Very expensive . Food was okay but the price was too high. Will stop using this facility

The amazing service arrived a day early. For or something from the butcher's, staff were very accommodating. Not a problem and were still able to offer me the product. Cant fault the buctcher pack. Love local

How they have fallen service of staff and attitude have just plummeted. Not shoping there anymore which is a shame as it was relay nice . Possible need to look at review a little more rather than moaning in local paper reviews are unfair .

Had a great visit to this farm shop and restaurant yesterday for some lunch. The staff were very pleasant and efficient drinks arrived at the table within 2 minutes of arriving. Food was tasty and fresh, the restaurant was spotlessly clean and the shop was stocked with a huge array of interesting fresh and dry foods. Will be back. So easily accessed from the dual carriageway.

First time we've been to Marshall's farm shop and we had a nice lunch. We did have to queue for about 30 mins to be seated, then we had to queue again to place our orders but it was very busy. the food came quick and was very tasty. 4 clean plates. It was a little pricey especially since 1 meal was just chips but it all tasted fresh and homemade/grown/farmed. Will go again.
