I regularly use the M6 for work journeys and recently by my own mistake got into the wrong lane leaving the services and ended up going in the wrong direction which ended up in an additional charge to turn around. Ruth at customer services got my issue resolved and refunded the charge as a gesture of goodwill all within 30minutes of reporting this to them. Their customer service is excellent.

I am updating my previous review regarding a navigation error that led me onto the M6 Toll. Initially, I was frustrated by what seemed like a rigid "computer says no" response to a simple mistake at Norton Canes.
However, after submitting a formal complaint explaining the situation, the M6 Toll customer service team reached out and provided a goodwill refund. While the initial automated experience was frustrating, I’m pleased to see that they do actually employ staff who use common sense and empathy. I appreciate them taking the time to review my specific case and rectifying the charge. It’s rare to see this kind of flexibility from a major infrastructure operator, so credit where it's due.

I can see that there are many negative reviews about pricing but I just wanted to say that for me the M6 toll is a godsend as I regularly travel from the Midlands to down south and I LOVE it. I used to get stressed stuck in all the traffic but now I can happily travel in Friday rush hour and pre pay so just breeze through the barriers. For practically the price of a London coffee, you have made my life so much easier 😀 Thank you for building it!

I have been charged a range of prices recently by M6 toll, and when I questioned a £17.60 charge for a single journey in December I was told that because my vehicle may be around the 1.3 m at the first axle threshold between class 2 and class 4, I may, at times, be charged the higher rate, almost the same as an HGV. They tell me this can depend on the speed at which I approach the tollbooth, the load I'm carrying, and my tyre pressure, so, essentially, whether I am charged as class 2 or class 4 is totally unpredictable. Around £10 a journey seems reasonable at UK prices, but nearer to £20 feels like profiteering. Staff were professional and helpful, and on this occasion refunded the additional £7.10 I'd been charged, but I'll try alternative routes. I like to know what I'm going to be charged before I make decisions.
It occurs to me that there must be quite a lot of cars slightly above 1.3 m in height at the first axle. If you use the M6 toll, double-check what they are charging you: you may get an unpleasant surprise.
They say their charges are in line with "many" tolls on European motorways. I drive in France and Spain quite a lot with my vehicle, and I have never been charged anything other than the standard price for a car; and I note that the Dartford crossing, the other toll on a regular trip I make, treats my vehicle as a car without fail, and charges a clear, unvarying price. Looking at other reviews here, if I ran the M6 toll I'd be keen to improve the service I offer.

Make sure you don't accidentally take the M6 toll. They class the first 4 miles as 2 zones so you end up paying nearly as much as if you traverse the full 26 miles. This cannot be fair and is clearly designed to exploit a simple mistake. In addition the charges are not clear. The illuminated road side signs are out of order and the fees are not easy to find on their website.

I am not a regular traveller in this part of the world and accidentally ended up on the toll road, and which is 27 miles long. I had to stay on it for the full length of all three Zones (which I didnt even now exisited on such a short peice of road). I had to pay for a van which was advertised at £16.40 I believe at the entrance to the toll and behold when I got to the automated payment system in the middle somewhere I had to Pay £19.20, which is 70 pence less than a 45ton HGV (my van is 3.5 ton). And according to their information on a Sunday afternoon I saved 7 minutes.
I have looked at their website and trying to find out what classification of Vehicle, I was driving is as clear as mud. (this really needs clarification, so if some one is looking to find out what class four vehicle is they can easily work out if their vehicle is taller than 1.3m at the first axle then get ready for a £20 charge)
So if you are in a rush it is maybe a good idea at rush hour but at 71 pence per mile it is a tad steep in a vehicle which costs around 15 per mile a 135 mile detour would have been more cost effective...... just beware as I will drive the route well around it next time. For a Road that cost 900 million to build and has a turnover of 135 million a year you go to ask why government isnt doing the same as the railways and re nationalising it?

What a rip off
Last time I used the M6 toll road it was £6-7. That was a couple of years ago. Used it quite recently to go to NEC and what a farce. Road was practically empty so no issues on it. As you approach it you now have no idea how much you’ll be charged! There is 1 sign that really doesn’t explain it. Bottom line, I have a standard car (Tiguan) and they charged me £19.20 for a 1-way trip! What a scandalous rip off. I called them next day and they I was charged that in error and it should have been £11. A bit better but still an absolute rip off compared to charges in France or Spain. Their charging set up is ridiculously complicated. I won’t be using this toll road again until I see something akin to sensible pricing again.

I’ve travelled on the M6 Toll for years and have always been charged as a Class 2 vehicle. However, on my last two journeys I was charged Class 2 in the morning and Class 4 in the evening, despite driving the exact same vehicle.
When I contacted M6 Toll for an explanation, I was told that my tyres were over‑inflated, which supposedly caused the system to classify my vehicle differently. This response doesn’t make sense to me—my tyre pressures have been the same for years, and I’ve never had an issue until recently. Nothing about my vehicle has changed, so suddenly being charged a higher class feels unfair and inconsistent.
After years of reliable service, this experience has been disappointing. I’m hoping M6 Toll will review their classification system, as customers should not be penalised by unclear or inaccurate detection methods.

Went on to this Motorway by accident. So Yes I Have To Pay !!
Only to find out I’ve now got Two Pending payments going out of my accounts for Two different prices, after Only Exiting through One toll barrier!
What Gives these people the right to make 2 pending payments from My Account.
No Doubt they will have a Sarcastic Reply as seen on recent replies of how it’s not their problem and how they are working hard behind the scenes !

An absolute disgrace, virtually impossible to avoid the Toll road if you don't know the area. How they can claim clear pricing is beyond me, nowhere did I see that the charge was £11.40 for a small car for one way.

Can I just say that it is absolutely shocking on your part that you make people wait over 48 hours for a receipt. We live in a modern world where people have to book their expenses the same day, and this is slow and clunky and very old fashion and extremely frustrating. I used to be able to get a receipt instantly and now you have took that away and made it a lot worse for people using the toll road.
Absolutely stupid, but this is backwards Britain these days! Everything going in reverse!

The cost/benefit of this toll road is not worth it. On the previous times when I have used this road I paid regular car rates, but this weekend I got charged £17.60 for a one-way journey! I believe because vehicles are now charged by height and I had a roof box on. That’s £35.20 for a return journey for a non-commercial vehicle?!?? That's the equivalent of half a tank of fuel and for very little time saving in off-peak hours. From now on it’s “avoid tolls” in the sat nav for this journey.
