Avoid this company they are scammers!
I called to enquire about a loan after my father passed to help pay for the furneral , I told the man on this phone this.
He went through my details asking , I was offered "premium" services for gas and electricity . I made him aware I was not a home owner therefore this wouldn't be of any use to me , we proceeded with the application. He then asked me for my card details I said he didn't need this.I was told this was to "verify" me . I asked him loud and clear " so no payment will be taken " he reply "yes not a penny , your card details are purely to verify yourself" . Being trusting and never had an issue before and I must admit I havent a great credit history for lack of ever having credit and needing this money ASAP I proceeeded. I was then told they had found me a loan , great I thought. I was referred to amigo , they are a guarantor loan company. I made them aware coming from a non-home owner family they I didn't have a guarantor and they said I wouldn't be accepted by them. Ok it happens and I put the phone down. Now what happens next is beyond appalling.
I went to my bank to take some cash out and It was nearly a hundred pound less than I thought ( £89.99 to be exact) I called my bank to see where this had come from and was told a company I had never heard of had taken it , FYI lloyds were no help at all. Finally after some digging I discovered SGE loans had taken it from my bank for their "premium services " .. Wait hadn't I declined that and hadn't I asked twice if there was a charge.
I called them up and spoke to a man , who was beyond rude!
I called and explained what had happened , he said he would look into this.
Now I read there T&C's and it said If I were to cancel within 14 days I would get a refund, even though I hadn't asked for it I though this was just a case of a misunderstanding. I was admittedly a little upset , my father funeral was in a few days and I really didn't need this, the man on the phone pretended like the line had dropped , so I called back to which he thought it was funny ( me pretty much crying down the phone ) to pretend once again he couldn't here whilst saying hello *insert my name * I know it's you, I can't hear you and then laugh. Yes really , I'm crying down the phone as this company has taken my last days before my father funeral and he is laughing at me at this point he put the phone down again.so I tried to call back on my mobile , no pick up. Tried on my sisters phone , picked up straight away only to put it down a few moments later. Tried again on my sisters mobile no pick , called on mums phone picked up said who I was only to put the phone down again. This is how it pretty much when on for THREE MONTHS I would try to contact maybe once ever two weeks or so with no joy. They did admit a month after there was an error and I was getting a refund two weeks later there was a back log , two weeks after that the same again. In the end under the advice of trading standards I went to the Financial ombudsman ( I didn't know these existed before hand ) and got a refund within a week. Yes after all of that they sent me a cheque in the post nothing for the wait or the calls made , no note of apology just a cheque and a letter staying my refund was inclosed.
Since my dealing with this company I have looked them up a little further and there is another review website were a vast majors of the reviews are fake , I am not the first to mention this. Sadly I am not the only person this has happened to either , sge make a habit of this kind of behaviour.
If you look into them a little further you will see hundreds of people who have had the same issue as myself.
My advice is :- do not use this company at any cost , please.
If you have already used the contact the financial ombudsman to get a refund. Hopefully with enough reports someone will sit up a listen.
