Within minutes of requesting tiler and water proofing services we got 3 suggestions and all 3 made contact.
Although we went with the tiler that offered great explanations, very good pricing it was their willingness to start on the day they arrived to quote that impressed. However all other tilers suggested would be a recommendation too... thanks hipages

Beware – Hipages does not properly check licences.

I hired a fencing contractor through Hipages, paid a $3,000 deposit, and he never did the work. Instead, he demanded more money and then blocked all contact. NSW Fair Trading later confirmed he was unlicensed for this type of job.

The serious concern here is not just one bad tradie, but that Hipages allows anyone to create a profile with no real licence verification for jobs over $5,000. This creates a platform where scammers can operate freely, taking deposits and leaving customers with financial loss and safety risks.

Homeowners should be extremely cautious using Hipages. Do not assume that because a tradie is listed on Hipages they are qualified or licensed. Always independently verify licences through Fair Trading before paying any money.

I also want to clarify a few key points:

1) I lodged a complaint with NSW Fair Trading, and they confirmed this tradesperson was unlicensed. If Hipages’ licence checks had worked properly, this should have been flagged before I engaged him. I was never informed by Hipages that he was unlicensed.

2) I am now pursuing the matter through NCAT, but NCAT requires a service address for the tradesperson. Hipages’ position is that we cannot provide you with this information due to confidentiality, and that the request must come via NCAT. However, NCAT has made it clear they do not contact third parties on my behalf. This leaves consumers like me stuck in a loop with no practical remedy.

3) Hipages has not suspended the profile properly. Instead, they simply added a note: “This page doesn’t advertise anymore.” This means that anyone can still message the same person, request a quote, pay a deposit — and then risk being scammed in the same way. I was only told that if the tradie wants to advertise again, he would need to resolve the dispute with me first. This does absolutely nothing to protect other consumers.

4) To make matters worse, when I contacted the tradesperson recently, he openly told me: “I don’t have any licences. You can’t do anything through Hipages, you can’t do anything with Fair Trading, you can’t do anything with NCAT, and you can’t do anything with police because it’s civil.” This shows he is fully aware of the gaps in the system and has likely done this before.

Thank you for your further response. Unfortunately, your suggestion is not workable in my case. The tradesperson you allowed onto your platform did not hold a licence, and Fair Trading has already confirmed this to me. Because he has no licence, Fair Trading cannot request his service address from you, which means I am left without any support.

This is exactly the problem: Hipages provided me with a tradie who was unlicensed, operating only under an individual ABN, and yet I was never warned of the risks. Now, instead of practical help to recover my loss, I am being passed between agencies while the tradesperson faces little consequence.

In reality, Hipages allowed an unlicensed tradesperson to take a deposit for regulated building work, failed to warn me, and now refuses to provide the information I need to pursue justice. The only action they’ve taken is a cosmetic disclaimer on his profile, which still leaves consumers exposed. Hipages’ system offers little protection against scammers, while homeowners like me are left with financial losses and no real support. Refer to other similar comments and reviews.

The worst platform for small business owners (tradies). High lead prices, not transparent and trapping contract with undisclosed costs.
Would not recommend to anyone who’s looking for a boost to their business.
Stay away from them. 🙅‍♂️

Much easier process of finding a tradie than trying to ring around directly.

Because you only get contact by those that are interested you are already half way to getting it done.

Used multiple times. At times got no response, other times got 1-2 responses from what appear to be very dodgy tradespeople. Won’t be wasting my time again.

Don’t go there . They are misleading . We entered a $1 3 month deal , we topped up our lead credit & it signed us up for a years contract. They refuse to let you out of the contract & refuse to refund us the $250 extra ae paid . Now we are stuck with with them for a year . Total rip offs that do not care

Hipages presents itself as a platform for connecting with contractors, but its review system is misleading and heavily biased in favor of contractors. Negative reviews are not posted, yet positive reviews are allowed, which can mislead consumers and allow contractors to potentially post fake or inflated reviews.

When challenged, hipages claims it is “not a review site,” yet it clearly displays positive reviews and star ratings, creating the impression of impartiality. This contradiction puts consumers at risk of making hiring decisions without a true picture of a contractor’s performance.

I personally hired a carpet layer through hipages. The work was done poorly, and despite multiple attempts to fix it over several months, the issues were never resolved. In most cases, the work was made worse. Hipages’ system offered no way to flag or warn about this, leaving me and future consumers vulnerable.

Proceed with caution: hipages may look like a trusted source, but the review system is biased and incomplete, and can give a false sense of security when choosing contractors.

The prices are insane but worst of all is the spam and scam calls I have been receiving ever since signing up as a tradie. Each lead has up to 3 tradies paying lead prices from $15 to $100 each and then other tradies can also send their details. Just another middle party taking the piss

You really need to take this seriously, this guys(Hi pages)is going to do They’re best to scam you for at least for six months

I've found that if I use the post Code for my adjoining suburb I get contacted by local tradies. Glenfield 2167 is in the City of Campbelltown, not Faifield or Auburn.
Hipages need to adjust their tradie allocation algorithms

Untrustworthy and unscrupulous. They changed my energy provider without any notification. I found out the rate was only more attractive with the sign on credit of $50. Within a month my new energy provide Momentum Energy increased their rates by 10%+ leaving me worse off by $500+.

The tradies that were selected to call customers are responsive, but they are all scammers. The couple of jobs that was done were half done and you have to finish the jobs yourself. The only fast and efficient thing from those tradies were demanding you pay them. If you are looking for dodgy tradies then use hipages. I will never use this site ever again and will make sure to not let anyone I know use this SITE EVER.

🚨 TRADIES BEWARE — HIPAGES IS A SCAM 🚨

HiPages will trap you in a 12-month contract with a pathetic 7-day cooling-off period. Sounds fair — until you realise the leads are fake, dead, or already completed before they even hit your phone.

When you call them out? They don’t care. They’ll refuse to cancel your contract, hide behind fine print, and keep charging you MONTH AFTER MONTH for absolute rubbish.

This isn’t just my story — it’s happening to hundreds of tradies.
Check the reviews. The horror stories are real.

Don’t get screwed. Don’t sign up. Stay the hell away from HiPages.

Hi-pages will not publish negative reviews!! Have used hipages in the past with okay results, this time got a dodgy tradie who quoted 200-300 and didn't arrive when arranged and then when he finally came cleared the blocked drain in 20 minutes and then gave us a bill of $660 and wouldn't honour quoted price and wouldn't leave until we had paid. I can't even warn others customers not to use him because noone sees negative reviews and hipages continue to protect dodgy tradies. Easiest option don't use hipages!

I signed up to Hi-pages as a contractor, but only ran my business for 3 months before taking a job, alot of the leads are time wasters and not worth your time. They refused to release me from my 12 month contract and continue to bill me. Will never deal with them again!
