Thought I had a free account through a bank promotion but didn't set it up correctly so was being charged without realizing it. Customer service was excellent to work with and even refunded the money from the past several months. Would recommend for strong customer service response!
Greenlight did not protect my son from fraud
My son had outright fraudulent charges totaling well over $800 to his Greenlight account, wiping out two years of allowance, birthday money, and dog walking money. Greenlight was evasive, said they could only refund up to 60 days, and refused to help further. Parents need to know that Greenlight does not have the expected safety controls or suspicious activity flags that anyone might reasonably expect. Their customer service was completely unhelpful and unresponsive. Parents beware—Greenlight is not a safe solution for minors given the increasing risk of fraud.
Their customer service is abysmal…
Their customer service is abysmal bordering on nonexistent. The customer service reps are unhelpful and cannot follow simple instructions. I would not recommend this platform to anyone who cares about their child actually being able to access their funds.
Caution for disabled community…
As a member of the disabled community and a stroke survivor, I feel it is important to caution others who may be considering doing business with Greenlight. In my experience, my disability affected my ability to properly use the web interface, and I relied on customer service for assistance. Unfortunately, I felt that my limitations and need for support were not properly acknowledged, which resulted in unfavorable consequences and charges that I believe could have been avoided.
I am sharing this review to help others in the disabled and survivor community make informed decisions. Accessibility, patience, and proper customer support matter, especially when a customer clearly needs assistance because of a disability. In my case, I felt taken advantage of rather than helped.
Too little, too late for me — but if you are considering opening an account, I would strongly encourage you to compare Greenlight with other similar services before making a final decision. Pay close attention not only to fees and features, but also to how each company supports disabled individuals, stroke survivors, TBI survivors, caregivers, and customers who may need extra help navigating the app or website.
I do not share this lightly. I made every reasonable effort to resolve this matter directly and amicably before posting anything publicly. I am not trying to discredit the company or tell others what decision to make. I simply believe people deserve to know my experience before choosing whether Greenlight is right for their family.
My hope is that other disabled individuals, stroke survivors, TBI survivors, caregivers, parents, grandparents, and guardians will ask careful questions about accessibility, customer support, fees, and how concerns are handled before opening an account. If this helps even one person make a more informed decision, then sharing my experience was worth it.

Wrong education
If you do not figure out how to completely lock down this card, it is extremely predatory. Even after deactivating our account, they are still attempting to withdraw the monthly fee. We deactivated because our children could spend beyond the amount we put on the card and they would just take the amount from the connected account. It seems more “educational” for the child’s transaction to be declined. It’s teaching them that they can spend more than they have with no immediate consequence, encouraging debt.

The service works well enough and the cards and children account works as advertised. The problem with Greenlight is closing your account which is EXTREAMLY difficult to do and getting you funds back one closed is potentially 6 phone calls almost 2 hours each call as it was for me. That is reason alone to stay away and look for other similar services. In this economy, hijackings the consumer's fund in the name of "verifications" is simply unacceptable. That's Greenlight.

I have been dealing with a billing issue since 2024, and they REFUSE to remove my business banking account from someone else's PERSONAL ACCOUNT! I've been getting charged $5.99 since 2023 and they will NOT remove my account! I will be escalating this issue to the INDIANA ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE since they refuse to help me. I will aslo be reporting them to BBB and ANY CHANCE I GET, I WILL WRITE A BAD REVIEW ON EVERY PLATFORM I CAN FIND!!!!!!! DO NOT OPEN UP AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM! WOULD NOT RECCOMEND!
We’ve used Greenlight for over 5 years…
We’ve used Greenlight for over 5 years and didn’t have many issues until now. I recently cancelled my account because they are declining DEPOSITS!!! Absolutely crazy! Customer service is useless. I talked to a bot and 4 different representatives and still no resolution. It’s less hassle to just get your child a youth bank account that you can monitor. Please pass on this one. The investment and other features can be obtained other ways with way less hassle. Please do a little more research before subjecting you to this migraine of a company!

Terrible decision my kid went out the country and we were recommended this card by her teacher BIG MISTAKE she has been left penniless due to her card being taken by the ATM! Greenlight then held the money up not allowing me to transfer it out smh I’m so sick about this

I am not enjoying this product at all
I am not enjoying this product at all. I don't know if it's just mine but it hardly ever updates, my daughter was at home for 30 minutes before it registered she was there. She hit the sos button and it never alerted my phone, even after messing around with it for ten minutes, when it does update, it's only because I've completely excited out of the app and reopened it. The app itself is so glitchy and for paying all this money for a monthly subscription, I can't understand why it updates so poorly.
Not reliable or accurate
We have 2 of the watches for our kids. The gps is horrible, for example we will be sitting at the basketball ball game at the school and it will be 4 quarter then ill get a notification my daughter just arrived at school when she has been her an hour or more. The watch delete contacts all the time and then they just reappear. We love the features to see when a text message is unhealthy or unsafe. We love that we control who they can talk to and set limits on usage. But for what we pay its not reliable.
Absolutely horrible customer service
Absolutely horrible customer service. I signed up and gave my address and when they processed it on there and they took off the apartment number. 3 1/2 hours on the phone and they want me to jump through hoops to prove that the apartment number that I gave them to begin with is my apartment number, then I canceled my account because of their stupidity. They informed me that they intended on keeping my Social Security number and all my data and selling it and that that was in the contract I signed. I had an account for all of 14 hours before I canceled due to their complete incompetence

There is a transaction that still shows pending from February 3. It is now March 4 when I contacted Greenlight and they were unable to provide proof that it was credited, even though I’m showing them we didn’t get the funds and that the transaction is still showing is pending. We are now on day four waiting to hear back from them. Not only that I have to spent more than two hours on the phone. Instead of issuing the refund and processing it as I provided proof from the merchant, they want to contact their technical support team to get the transaction removed without providing proof that they refunded it. I am an accountant I can count we were not refunded and to be honest I will never use Greenlight again. They are trying to offer free months of service as if I would dare deposit anything else on the account Warning do not use.
Protect your child's financial assets and stay away from Greenlight!
My child had a fraudulent charge on their debit card and when it was brought to the attention of customer service they did not do their due diligence to find out what happened from the merchant. Instead our family was told the money would not be credited back. Do yourself a favor and read all the reviews which provide details on how they don't protect your child's money. Stay away from this company and go with a more reputable company who will protect your child's financial assets.
They are a bunch of crooks
They are a bunch of crooks. My daughter’s acct was supposed to disable at 18, I spoke with customer service about it, and they continued taking monthly fees from me for 2 years. It was $6/month so it was easy for me to lose sight of it. I called and they only agreed to refund 3 months. Do yourself a favor and just open an acct for your child with a regular banking institution and put restrictions on it.

customer service is AI garbage
The product itself is great. I used it for my first son without issues for years. Then I moved and added my second son. That’s when the problems began.
First of all they didn’t change my address when I moved despite me notifying them, so the Greenlight card wasn’t sent to my address and it’s probably in a landfill out there. Not cool. Sensitive information shouldn’t be floating around with no way to verify where it went.
Secondly when I transferred $150 and then another $20 (for tax - my kid was buying something, he gave me $ and forgot tax), Greenlight instead charged me twice for $150. Thankfully I had the money in my account but for folks who live paycheck to paycheck this could be catastrophic.
I then tried to contact them. What a joke. They have a number to call but it’s AI. I just said “talk to a human” it wouldn’t let me. I had to say what’s going on. So I did. I said “payment issues.” IT assumed I was a teenager, told me to have a parent call, and hung up! I tried this multiple times Mind you
Not only that but even the email route wouldn’t work. It said I was using the wrong email address, but yet I couldn’t change it from the app. So there was no way to fix it.
Even finding the number and contact email to notify them of this issue was not available on the app. I had to google it.
Finally, I wil say that the next day, my money was back in my account and the issues were fixed. But that doesn’t fix the aggravation not the fact that my trust has been broken.
I’m only taking off one star for service because I used them for years with no issues. But I can definitely see how anyone using this app for the first time and not able to fix issues by reaching a human could be very off-putting and might make someone give them only one star.
I believe the moral here is not to trust AI garbage with your customer service, no matter how cheap it is. It’s not worth damaging your customer’s trust.
