Just don't do it
Acorns is fine for younger children. Once your child reaches a certain age & is more responsible with their money, they should allow parents to set limits but they don't. They have predetermined limits that you have to follow. And don't get me started on closing the account. I've been dealing with customer service since September 19th to get my daughter's almost 500$ transferred to her new account & this one closed. I keep being told 5/7 business days but it's obviously been longer than that. Don't do it. Just get your child a capitol one account & be done with it.
I was a longtime GoHenry customer…
I was a longtime GoHenry customer before it became Acorns Early, and I'd never had money go missing until now.
On October 1, 2026, I transferred $410 into my Acorns Early parent account, then moved it to my daughter's account. When she tried to move $300 into her savings, the app glitched. After reopening it, the $300 was gone from her balance and transaction history.
I contacted support right away. Two separate representatives confirmed that Acorns' system still shows the $300, even though neither of us can see or access it. I sent the requested screenshots, and the case was escalated.
As of October 8, it's still unresolved. I understand glitches happen. What bothers me is how it's been handled: unanswered emails, inconsistent communication, and repeated assurances that it's "being worked on" with no real update or timeline. I've had to chase them every time, over money they've already confirmed is in their records. Meanwhile, my daughter hasn't been able to touch her own $300 for a week.
I've contacted my bank about dispute options and am considering a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
When a company holds your money, accountability and clear communication aren't optional. After years as a customer, I'm leaving Acorns Early. The glitch didn't break my trust, their response did.
Other parents should know what to expect if something goes wrong with their child's money.
Good app for chores.

I canceled my account and acorns early…
I canceled my account and acorns early has kept over $2k of mine for months. They will not return. I’ve been dealing with this weekly for months and they won’t fix the issue. It’s horrible and a huge waste of time.
Terrible
Terrible. Glitches constantly and customer service doesn't help and barely speaks English. Thinking about finding a better company. Terrible.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
I have reported this company to the FDIC, FBI, and BBB. They have stolen my daughter’s gifted money and $300 from my parent account. They refuse to have anyone respond to questions and will not call. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Best app for your children
I have been a user when it was go Henry.I started it for my granddaughter to teach her money skills and saving habits. She was 12 at the time, now she is seventeen, She has two savings accounts And manages her savings accounts and does very well. This app has taught her so many money skills that she will be able to take throughout her life. And when she goes off to college. I am always recommending it to family and friends and I do believe at least 3 people are recommended.Start using the app with their children. It is a great tool to teach your child money skills
So easy!
It is the easiest way I have found to handle my daughter’s allowance. Very user friendly!
I see improvements
It is good overall. Sometimes the app still glitches but it’s better.

DO NOT USE ACORNS!
DO NOT USE ACORNS!
My experience with Acorns has been horrible. My card was compromised, and instead of Acorns properly investigating the fraudulent charges, I was pressured to contact the merchant and basically handle the situation myself.
I contacted the merchant, and they told me Acorns should have been investigating the dispute. So what exactly am I trusting a financial company with my money for if I’m left doing the fraud investigation myself?
The customer service was terrible, the entire process was frustrating, and I did not feel protected as a customer. I ended up closing my account because I completely lost trust in the company.
I would NEVER recommend Acorns. When something goes wrong with your money, you need a company that will actually step up, investigate, communicate, and protect its customers—not pass the responsibility back onto you.
Save yourself the headache and use another company.
