Ellis & Co Islington staff are surly depressed teenagers.
You walk into Ellis & Co Islington, ready to part with tens of thousands of pounds. The staff look at you like you've made a bad day even worse. You ask questions, they mumble responses like surly despondent teenagers. There's no proactive effort made on their part, like playing tennis with a zombie. One wonders how on earth these businesses survive? What kind of training, if any, do the managers give their staff? And how desperately miserable must the staff be to treat the job and potential customers with such utter disdain?
Unprofessional...less than one star
We booked a viewing for a house in Harrow. Spoke with the agent before leaving home and he told us that at 6:30 he will be at the property...drove for 2 hours...at 6:30 we were in front of the house but nobody was there. Of course, the agent didn't bother to answer our calls. Waste of time and gas.
Rude and dodgy
Have viewed 2 places with them and won’t be viewing another one. They call me ALL the time. I’ve tried to communicate over email, but instead of responding in writing they ring me? Quite suspicious, why don’t you want to leave details of our conversations in writing? Hmmm.
Agents have been over 45 mins late each time, and when I mentioned how it was unprofessional the 2nd time it happened, the agent was so rude and aggressive, and had the audacity to try to pressure me to pay just hours after having viewed. No contract, nothing. Yeah, no thanks.
If this is how you treat potential tenants, I can’t imagine how you treat people actually renting through you.
Overall, super dodgy & super rude. Go elsewhere.

Got property for my freind in Edmonton .in week the property got heavy water leaks. After one week letter the another water leaks. Call to some lady name Gina she was soo rods .Shame on you Ellis & co .you are such a dogy state agents. Rip people money??????

Why use anybody else ?
Better than all the rest....
When renting out a property at a distance, responsiveness and attention to detail are critical. I have used many other agents in East London and havefinally reached satisfaction with Ellis & Co. Realistic expectations and a genuine effort to find the right tenants are critical, as well as the ability to help when something goes wrong such as a prospective tenant turning out to be a financial liability, necessitating a rapid re-marketing.

Neil was very helpful when we purchased a flat in Finchley. He kept us informed and was polite and always helpful. Made the transaction stress free.

Tenants pay to be mistreated
Their fees seem unduly expensive when compared to other agents, and despite the tenant having to pay all their fees it is very clear they work for the landlord. As a tenant you pay them so they can treat you like rubbish and service the landlord
When negotiating over the price of a renewal they had the audacity to remind me that it would be cheaper to pay the substantial rent increase than it would be to pay the tenancy fees again on a new property. All this was after I had to pay them a renewal fee so they can start discussing the renewal.
For a company who focus on property their contract templates are atrocious, they are confusingly worded, badly laid out and have the distinct feeling like they haven't changed in decades. It would be minimal effort to overhaul them and its astonishing that that such a central part of the business is handled so badly.
They do not bother trimming out redundant clauses in the tenancy agreement, if the property doesn't have gas there are still whole sections talking about gas certificates. Their contracts would be half the size if they were to remove redundant clauses
Their agents don't really understand the contracts and seem incapable of making amendments to it. After talking directly to the landlord various conditions on the renting were agreed, however the agents refused to update the contract to include the conditions. We had to put the conditions in writing separate to the tenancy agreement just so we could move forward. When involved in any discussions they were stubborn and unhelpful, the only way to progress anything was to speak directly to the landlord
Unfortunately because they had the property we wanted, we are forced to continue to pay for their 'service'. So we continue to pay them and they continue to be useless
If you are a tenant seriously avoid renting through them, if you are a landlord do your tenants a favour and go with someone else

Isn't it a shame with all the…
Isn't it a shame with all the competition of North London letting agents, Ellis & Co Finchley are the most rude and unhelpful out there. Luckily, I'm only trying to rent a property and not using them as an agent for my own house. I can't imagine how bad their service is for that and I'd be horrified as a landlord about how they speak to potential clients. The staff are generally unhelpful, curt and short on the phone and are useless at getting in touch with you. This is enough to put me off renting through them, I can only imagine how long they'd keep you waiting to return your call if you had a real emergency as a tenant!

These are the worst estate agents!
Do NOT use this agency. They are horrifically rude, inept and an all round disappointment.
The staff do not answer their phone, the property manager never returned phone calls or got back to me when issues arose within the property. I’m not sure what the point of them was, they did nothing and more often than not I had to resort to contacting the landlady directly or vice versa as they never acted with any haste.
The thing that disgusted me the most about them was that they always sided with the rogue landlord and ultimately showed no care for their tenant.
The property ‘manager’ was evidently unable to live up to his job title on numerous occasions.
Even during the intial viewing, they were ridiculously late. That should have been my first warning sign to steer clear of this company and the level of professionalism that awaited me!
I am disgusted with their service and their attitude. Please seek your housing services elsewhere.

Following my initial review, it seems that Ellis and Co are eager to ‘resolve’ issues now. Unfortunately, this is too late for me and the attempt is rather insulting at this point.
Whilst in contract with Ellis and Co, they had never gone out of their way to help resolve issues when I had made it abundantly clear there were numerous, including rodents in the property and heating that was not at a working standard during the snowy winter months. The property ‘manager’ was conveniently out of office when I tried to contact him via phone on numerous occasions and when he did manage to respond to any emails, at least a week or so had passed. So don’t expect any urgency from them about anything.
It seems ironic that now, at the termination of my contract, they are ‘happy’ for me to contact them and resolve issues when they have already been sorted myself.
Ellis and Co’s response to my review shows that they are still unwilling to accept their many faults and apologise for the difficulties I have experienced as a client.
Their attempts to remove and report my review (which is reflection of my genuine and arduous experience of being in contract with them) is tremendously sad for future tenants who need to be given a true reflection of varied customer experiences, not just the shiny good ones that paint them in a light that they would prefer. Their attempts to claim that my review is ‘defamatory’ is actually proving my point that they are oblivious to their conduct and duty to their tenants.
If only the time being spent to fine-comb the reviews could be used to deal with their customers who are paying them their hard earned money and not always receiving the best services in return.
Despite their attempts to silence my experiences and my honest review, I hope that it has impacted at least one person to stop and think twice before associating with Ellis and Co, and in particular the Harrow branch.
I will NOT be contacting the offices as they have had ample opportunities to apologise for their conduct and I highly doubt they will now.
Honestly, save yourself the hassle, headache and time and go elsewhere to an agent who will actually take the time to respond to your calls and emails in a timely manner and acknowledge when they have let you down. It certainly isn’t this place.

I would highly recommended Ellis & Co based on Matt Duce and his colleagues for the excellent service they have provided over the years.
I know there are always issues with tenants, that is almost unavoidable in this business, but they are always on hand help out and offer expert advice when needed. And I have to say, since I have been with Ellis & Co, their service has set them aside from most other agents I know, or have worked with in the past. So thank you very much for that.

Positive Experience of Purchasing Property
Bought a property through Ellis and Co. Very pleased with the service we received throughout, particularly from Tony. We saw multiple properties with Ellis and Co, and always felt that they were listening to what we wanted in a home. Once the purchase had been agreed, Ellis and Co's staff were good at keeping in contact, were friendly and mostly knowledgeable. Made the process less stressful for us, which was really important.
