Hi credit where credit is due I ve recently had my loft converted.It has been great slawak and Reece have been amazing so polite clean and such good communication I was kept up to date with the entire build the whole way through.I was extremely nervous as of having a really negative experience with a previous loft conversion company on my last house and I have been pleasantly surprised by how smooth and stress free the whole build with these guys was.I would hundred per cent recommend these guys for a loft conversion it has been a pleasure!!

A great experience from start to finish, and we're really happy with our loft conversion.
The friendly, helpful and informed staff are on hand to assist at every stage, and minimise the stress. The design was first class, and the building team professional and courteous, finishing the conversion on schedule, and leaving it clean. Highly recommended, an excellent service.

We have recently had a loft conversion with Econoloft and had a very negative and disappointing experience. There were many problems but here are some of the key ones:

1. Econoloft took all of their payment from us up front before work started. We did not understand that this would be the case when we paid our deposit to Econoloft and would not have chosen Econoloft had we understood this. We then had to pay each of the trades’ people directly for their work. We were never given a schedule for completion of work and expected payment dates. We were told by Econoloft’s surveyor that Econoloft would inspect the quality of work completed before authorising payment but most payments were authorised without any inspection taking place and on 2 occasions, Econoloft emailed us authorising payment for work that had not yet been carried out.

2. After we had paid our deposit, Econoloft then sent us a number of documents laying down terms we did not feel were reasonable. For example, one document stated that we would be liable for any materials stolen from site – even though Econoloft chose to leave these unsecured outside the front of our house. Another document stated that Econoloft would erect scaffolding on our existing flat roof and would not be liable for any damage. When we emailed Econoloft asking them to look at alternative ways to erect the scaffolding, they completely ignored our emails.

3. There were 33 days between the start of the building work and the date when snagging was completed when no one turned up on site to do any work. We were originally told the build should take 6-8 weeks but it took 13 weeks (only 1 day of this was due to us requesting an extra day for tiling). Econoloft have never given any explanation for these delays and frequently ignored our emails asking for explanations and updates. When we escalated our concerns by emailing Econoloft’s director, we got no response to our email.

4. When we signed up with Econoloft, the surveyor advised us to go ahead in winter and not to delay until summer because Econoloft would board out the floor before removing the roof. In actual fact, the roof was removed on the first day – for 4 days, no cover was put up to protect the property from weather damage. After 4 days we raised this as a concern and some plastic sheeting was put up but the house remained freezing cold and the flooring was not put down for another 6 weeks.

5. When we signed up with Econoloft, we were told that the lead joiner would be our main point of contact on site and that we could leave a key with him so that he could let other trades people in and out. In actual fact the lead joiner only visited site on 10 days of the 13 weeks it took for the job to be completed, meaning that we had to take time of work to let in the other trades people (electricians, staircase team, plasterers, flat roofers etc). When both the scaffolders and joiners first came to site, we needed to let them in but were only told what day they were coming by text message from the trades people themselves sent late in the evening the day before they came. On 2 occasions, trades people have turned up who we had not been told were coming and neither the lead joiner nor anyone from Econoloft was there to let them in. Although we raised our concerns about the lead joiner’s absence many times with Econoloft, there was no improvement and we saw no evidence of Econoloft managing the situation.

Did loft conversion in the last quarter of 2018, chose Econoloft over 3 other companies. Econoloft did everything for me right from planning till completion. Very good and professional service throughout. Zero headache. Tradesmen and management team were professional, helpful and cooperative. Thanks a lot Econoloft Happy to recommend.

I chose Econoloft because they promised good project management. I am satisfied with the build itself but project management was in my opinion very poor.

I expected someone with an understanding of our build to visit the site & coordinate the process. However, reality was a series of trades attending, relying on us for information, calling me directly with no one overseeing overall process. There wasn’t an onsite meeting at the start of the build with anyone from project management to discuss the conversion in any detail. I wasn't advised what bathroom fittings to buy for our specific set up which led to me returning items at a cost. Throughout we were given no information about schedule & had to contact the office to update them of problems & chase solutions. Emails to the office were often ignored and when I tried to contact the company director, he didn't bother to return my call or email.

The payment plan is structured with full amount due to this company 60% total, paid up front with remainder paid directly to trades, so there is no financial recourse once the build has started if you are unhappy with the management.

Even now we are still waiting for building regulators to sign off the build and our emails to Econoloft are ignored.

I feel I could have easily achieved the same result for a much lower cost working directly with a smaller building company. I chose to pay a premium with Econoloft for the project management side and feel very let down by the poor management they delivered.

We were recommended Econoloft by a friend and they were fantastic! They took care of every detail of the job from the initial quote to completing the build; layout ideas, detailed drawings and plans, party wall advice and documentation and then the management and delivery of the build itself. The builders were thorough but also worked very hard, ensuring the job was completed within the promised timeframe. The quoted price also did not increase as the build progressed.
We're very pleased with our loft conversion. It's given our whole family a little more comfort and space to enjoy our home!

Overall I was generally pleased with the experience, cost and (mostly) finish of the project, but I was disappointed during the build that I ended up acting as project manager, chasing suppliers, dealing with payments, checking the quality of finish and dealing with the snaggings list.

If I had wanted to deal with this at the outset I would have instructed my own builders, roofers, electricians, plumbers etc.

I would not use Econoloft again but during the build I met some great tradespeople so I would happily instruct them again direct.

The issue with any building work is that all customers have different expectations. I was in a position that I was fortuitous enough that I could pay for a company to take over my build project but actually they did not and as such I have given them only 3 out of 5 stars to reflect what I perceive as an unnecessary contribution from me.

they seemed to do a good job, but then the problems started after I had paid in full. The roof leaked and needed to be replaced after 5 years
I had a builder in to replace the bathroom, the wall battens were insufficient, and had to be replaced, the tiles might have fallen off the wall.
They fitted an extractor fan in ceiling so damp air got into the roof space, this could rot the timbers.
All these problems had to be rectified by my builder.

It is not often that I feel it necessary to write a review but on this occasion I feel it is a must. The decision to undertake a loft conversion in your home is a big one and one that can be very stressful and for this reason I hope my review will help others. For many years I had often past the Econoloft office in West Wickham and had obviously noted their existence should ever I be lucky enough to be seeking such a project for my home (my view of their having an accessible shop front and office locally was very reassuring!). Eventually when the time came they were an obvious choice to investigate but not without sensibly doing some considerable research and comparisons with other companies in our area. My assumptions that Econoloft would most probably be out of our price range were swiftly and surprisingly quashed! Not only were we given a competitive price it was one that others could not easily match! From the very first point of contact right up to the very last on completion and beyond I honestly cannot fault the service we received. Every detail is carefully explained and any queries/questions along the way are quickly answered. Econoloft have a dedicated team at their head office in Wigan, the very lovely Caroline and Wendy to name just two, who are always happy to help and make the whole experience as trouble free as is possible (no nasty answering machines or waiting for a call back!). The team of tradesmen that were assigned to us were amazing. Davin and Dan our first fix joiners, who were with us the whole way through, Terry on plumbing and heating, Wes the electrician, Rocky and Harry masters in the art of plastering, Mike flat roofing specialist and finally Lukasz and his accomplice on final fix joinery, each and every one was quite literally a pleasure to have around. A jolly bunch with plenty of entertaining banter thrown in for good measure! Always polite, considerate and respectful of us and our home. To them personally we would love for them to know how very grateful we are to all of them for all their amazing skill, care and hard work….a massive thank you to you all! With such an array of different trades required we would have maybe expected the odd clash of personality but not one didn’t meet and exceed our expectations…what a smashing bunch! The finished article we can only describe as stunning, a complete transformation of a dusty old loft area and best of all the planned layout is such that it flows beautifully, following on from the existing second floor as though it has always been there! The loft conversion has truly transformed our home and we are beyond pleased with the result (not to mention the added value which well exceeds the outlay!). Econoloft come very highly recommended from us!!! 

We have enjoyed our loft conversion for nearly 4 years and it has been great. It is well insulated so warm in winter, cool in summer. We have not had any problems with it and loving the extra space it has created.
At the time of installation there were a few snagging issues and we had to ask the work men to redo some small parts of the work, but overall we were and are very happy, Econoloft pricing was very competitive and their time keeping good.

verall we had a great experience with Econoloft. We were looking to expand our 3 bedroom semi as we lacked upstairs living space. The whole process from start to finish was pretty painless, not what I was expecting. What we really liked (which was difficult to obtain from other building companies) was that we had a full written quote, detailing every light, socket, window etc. We felt that we were able to stick to our budget without any nasty surprises waiting around the corner. The build itself started on time and finished ahead of schedule. The workman were fantastic, arrived when they said they would and were extremely professional and couldn't fault their workmanship. We are really happy with the completed loft conversion and would definitely recommend Econoloft to anyone looking to convert their loft space.
