Having previously submitted a planning application for a double dormer on our bungalow with plans drawn by our architect, we were disappointed with the process of poor communication with the local council & subsequent advice to withdraw the application. We then chose Econoloft to manage the process on our behalf as they offered a total package of design, project management & build. We were given a fair quote for the whole project & were happy with the proposed timeframe of 8-12 weeks with a start date in early summer.
Our original design with Econoloft was to move the existing stairs to the loft room using space from a ground floor bedroom & build one large bedroom with ensuite bathroom & storage. However, when we saw the size of the room, we decided to partition the space to create two bedrooms as well as an ensuite at an additional cost.
Our joiners, Jack & Adam, were very accommodating to any changes we requested & were readily available to address things when there were any problems. They were courteous throughout & tried to ensure the house was left relatively tidy as we were still living on site.
The only issue we found frustrating was that the other trades (electrician, plumber) were subcontracted, which sometimes caused delays on availability & put the project finish date back a few weeks. We have also noticed a couple of remedial works after living in the new build, & understand this is probably due to movement & settling, nothing we can't do ourselves.

This is the third time I have used Econoloft; they charge a fair price, manage the project well and a friendly, accessible and polite company.

I got my hip to gable loft conversion from Econoloft in 3rd quarter of 2022. Reason for writing the review after 2 years was to wait and see the quality of build. I chose Econoloft by talking to their customers, visiting the projects they had completed. Econloft gave an approximate quote initially and after paying 3000£ (non refundable) made a detailed estimate. Its more than 2 years now, loft has no issues except few cracks on the walls and is normal due to movement of structure. They do their own design even though I had given my architects design. As per their design, they install the joists on top of existing joists which made me to loose 6 inch of head room but its a sturdy design. Their design engineer Stephen was very helpful and answered all my technical questions.

Lead joiner Sotir and his team were excellent. Sotir, in particular is very intelligent, hard working and talented person with lots of ideas to solve the problems. He did a great job, my architect appreciated his work. He could make many last minuite changes I requested without moaning. Sotir's tiler did an excellent work and our bath room, which Sotir put some brilliant ideas is being appreciated by the family and friends. I gave him lot of extra works in ground floor renovation. Only complaint about him was, once he got the money, he did not respond to egineered wood flooring problem (installed by his team) happened because of his plumbing team. And flooring board used for final flooring were used during construction stage and were partially damaged with lot of dents and breaks. I paid for new boards to be installed but the final condition of boards was bad. Carpet or wooden floor shall cover these damages was the response I was given.

I would have given 5 star to Econoloft but there were some issues which I was not happy with 1) increased the price by 2100£ after price was agreed and I had no choice to go back as it would mean go back 5 months in the schedule. 2) New material storage was left in rain with no cover till I complained 3) Supervision has to be done by myself, their team hardly visited 4) No proper shelter was done above the roof and couple of times rain water entered my living room. When i asked, i was told it will cost extra!

Econoloft completed the work in time. Good quality work and reasonably priced during Covid time. Design team is very professional. If you are able to superwise yourself and interact with the joiner and their office regularly, then I recommend Econoloft.

Communication was always good

We had a loft extension done in 2022 by Econoloft. Although it took longer than it should have done we have been very pleased with it. It is a lovely space and is used as a guest suite. Econoloft did a very good job.

Econoloft converted our old loft into an en suite double bedroom which we are very happy with. Aside from adding value to our home it has made such a difference to our daily lives. We now have more space which comes in handy when we have guests stay.

The works to build the new extension were well managed by a good and helpful team.

We would recommend Econoloft to anyone who wants ti convert their loft into a new room(s).

The workmanship from all the subcontractors was excellent, but the project management from Econoloft was disappointing. Communication between the different players, such as the planning and building supervisors from the council was difficult.

Great company delivered what they promised at the outset, on time.

We recently used Econoloft for our attic conversion (following a recommendation from a friend and neighbour) and the final result exceeded our expectations.

There was always somebody on hand to answer our (many) questions, and we felt reassured that everything was being done to a high and professional standard.

Our lead joiner, Arek, was just amazing! He was professional, tidy, completed on schedule, and his attention to detail was superb. We couldn't have asked for a better joiner!

As well as the joinery (with all the many components that entails), Econoloft also arranged the electricians, plumbers, plasters, scaffolding and skips. This meant there was less for us to do as Econoloft acted as a one-stop-shop for the overall conversion.

We were also eligible for a free decorating offer from Econoloft, which meant we were able to move into our attic much quicker (as the decorating would have taken me a lifetime)!

We are so pleased with the end product – and everybody who has visited us since the work was completed has commented on the high finish and professional workmanship.

Of all the companies we sought quotes from, we felt most comfortable using Econoloft (particularly as we’d viewed an example of their work) and we would highly recommend Econoloft to others.

Econoloft converted our loft space in 2006. Over the years, various minor problems emerged which we fixed. However, after our roof leaked, we had roofers in to repair it. They told us that the flat roof had been sloped the wrong way round so over the years the water settled in the crevice which rotted the wood. It cost us nearly £20,000 to repair it. At that time, it became clear that the lighting was vulnerable, so we employed a trading standards electrician to resolve it, who told us that the electrics had been installed incorrectly and potentially dangerously. We engaged him to provide a full electrical report as well as putting it right, which was a further £1000. It also emerged that the shower was not water tight and there were other issues in the shower room, which we have now replaced, costing a further £8000. When we contacted Econoloft about the roof, they told us that, although their flat roofs are now guaranteed for 20 years, at the time ours was installed they were only guaranteed for 10 years. We argued that the roof had been installed incorrectly so the guarantee was irrelevant. Then, after we contacted them about the lighting, copying in trading standards, they simply refused to answer. They had many opportunities to do so, and they still do. We have told them that the evidence that the lighting was installed incorrectly is actually on the Part P certificate, but they showed no interest in looking at it. So my advice to anyone thinking of using this company, is that they will not take any responsibility for any failure of their contractors down the line if they think they can get away with it. Their attitude is not to engage and hope it goes away.
Update*** Further to the reply from Econoloft, I wish to answer their comments. My first reaction is, well at least they are responding to my comments now that it is in the public domain. This is something they would not do once the second issue of the faulty lighting was raised. They ignored it on every occasion, even though I was copying in Trading Standards.
We had a leaking roof, and so it was urgent to get it repaired. It is perfectly true that I raised this with them AFTER work had started on the roof. I did so when the roofing contractor told us that the roof had been constructed incorrectly, so that the slope of the flat roof was towards the crevice instead of away towards the gutter. This was the reason, so our roofer told us, for the damage over the years. Obviously this did not become apparent to us until the leaking began. The original quote for repair was for around £4000. However, when the tiles were taken up, it revealed a lot of damage to the underlying wood construction, and the price went to around £10000. This work further revealed that the damage had moved to the front part of the main roof, where the main girder had been constructed incorrectly, and the bill was now close to £20000. The roofers took many photographs and videos, which I offered to show to Econoloft (I have the emails still), but they weren't interested. We never asked Econoloft to cover the cost, as they are suggesting, but rather to enter some dialogue about their own responsibility, considering the roof was constructed incorrectly.
I did not claim there was a 20 year guarantee. Because I could not find a guarantee in our pack (I should have spotted that red flag) I looked on their website. This claims there is a 20 year guarantee on flat roofs. I was told that when we had ours done, it was only a 10 year guarantee. I couldn't find that in my pack.
We hadn't told them about minor issues because, as they say, some degree of maintenance is necessary, and we bore this. The shower had been leaking some years ago, and so we stopped using it. I never spoke to them about this, and only mentioned it in my review because it was another instance of the shoddy workmanship of the conversion.
When it came to the lighting - since they rightly told us that we didn't give them a chance to come and look at the roof, we had a survey carried out by a Trading Standards electrician which showed that the lighting had been carried out incorrectly and dangerously, and I sent them his report (I still have the email). I then offered them the chance to come and survey it. That was the last I heard from them. They stopped responding to emails because this time they DID have the opportunity to come and inspect how it was carried out wrongly. So when we told them there were no fire hoods, they ignored us, but now this is in the public domain are they responding.
Now they are talking about us 'extorting money'. At no stage did we ask for any monies. But considering the roof and the lighting were carried out incorrectly, thus necessitating paying more than we originally paid for the conversion, I was hoping for them to enter into discussion about a reasonable contribution.

I cannot fault Econoloft – a truly exception experience.

The Build:

Lee was an exceptional Project Manager, he kept me up to date each day, with the progress on the build. He has great customer care skills and his craftsmanship has been fantastic. He even made design suggestions as the work developed, which has left us with a beautifully bespoke loft. His team, Gav & Zac were on site everyday and were absolutely fantastic, they worked so hard and did a great job!
The team was always early and really put in a full day. My neighbours even commented how they would have had no idea that they were there. Every day they cleaned up and left everything tidy (and safe for my family).

We have also had the pleasure of being supported by Wes (Electrician), John (Plumber) and Jordan (Tiler). Every person that has been recommended to us has been exceptional at that trade and a pleasure to have in the house.

The Office:

We started our journey with Christine, who was always very helpful and answered all of my questions. She was great and very knowledgeable. As the build progressed, I have had the pleasure of dealing with Susan. Susan has been absolutely fantastic, she is incredibly helpful, she is organised and has ensured everything from an administrative point of view has been sorted.

In Conclusion:

We have now lived in our new rooms for a couple of months, the work is perfect and the rooms look amazing. The design is exactly what we needed and has transformed our family living space. For anyone considering a loft conversion I would say go for it! I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Econoloft – they have been quite simply FANTASTIC! My friend has been so impressed, she has just booked them to do her loft!

We had been thinking about a loft conversion on our house for some time but didn’t really know where to start. The fact that Econoloft arrange everything from plans to tradesmen was very appealing. The process was very straightforward, and we received the quote and plans very quickly. The office staff were also very friendly and prompt at answering any queries we had.The fixed price was also a great help so that the project came in on budget. The builders we had (GNC Developments, Warrington),were superb and liased directly with Econoloft so that the process was as stress free as possible for us.
The finished master bedroom with dressing room and en-suite has made such a difference to our family and we have created an extra bedroom too. Would highly recommend Econoloft!

The loft conversion work started positively in December 2022. The PM explained the whole process to me and the timelines with detailed instructions and videos. The scaffoling was erected and the builders started work promptly. By mid Feb the work was 90% complete and thats when the problems started. The project manager assigned was incompetent in handling the dependencies in completing the rest of the work and it took 3 months to put the staircase, plumbing, electric works etc. The builders accidently damaging the first floor ceiling. The damage caused was due to negligence by the builders as assessed by the Econolofts plasters. But econoloft failed to take responbility at the beginning. After escalating they agreed to pay for the painting of the ceiling in case I leave a positive review (As mentioned to me by Pete). However when the painter and plastered came home they informed me that econoloft had not agreed to pay so far. So I agreed to pay them for the time being to get the work done. Till date I have not received any update on payment. The glass ballustrate in the second floor staircase has not been fixed so far even after several attempts. I have not received a building inspection certificate. And every time I have to chase Pete to get this done. I cannot believe that anyone in econoloft believes this is normal or acceptable behaviour. While I can ingore the delays and project management issues, rest of the experience left a sour taste.

Given how big the loft conversion decision is, we wanted to share our experience to help others make their choice. We were very excited but quite anxious and worried about conducting what is major construction at our property, in converting our loft into a new family space.

Whilst we are sure there is not a perfect company or perfect experience, we feel the process, approach and experience of using Econoloft was exactly what we were and could have hoped for really.

They arranged for visits to recent conversions and we had a fair few visits from Econoloft to talk through the quote and contract. We were impressed with their knowledge and experience and we appreciated their complete understanding that we wanted as little disruption as possible to our day to day life, so they worked hard to give lots of notice to noise and always accessed the loft from the ladders, scaffolding and roof etc and only asked for access to the property when necessary.

We liked the delivery process and phasing of the project stages and payments, as well as advice and access to an site manager who helped resolve any onsite issues.

The quality of the work has been spot on too and they were very flexible and accommodating when I wanted to do some extra work.

It has all come together nicely and a good experience. Happy to recommend Econoloft for loft conversion projects.

I recently contacted Econoloft who had previously done an excellent job on our Loft conversion. It has been quite a few years since the job was originally completed, but I had a slight problem with one of the fascia boards. Econoloft were quick to get back to me and Pete who came out from Econoloft carried out the repairs in his usual professional manner. I knew Pete, as he had carried out the original work on the loft extension and Pete and his team were excellent then, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that Pete was still working there. I cannot praise Pete and Econoloft enough for the excellent aftercare.

It's nearly a year since completion and we are still really happy with our two new bedrooms and shower room. It's made such a difference to our house and family. It stayed nice and warm up there during the winter and was fine through the summer heat too.

Absolutely no complaints from our experience. They gave us good down to earth advice when we were making our initial plans, the price was competitive, all the trades that came in were professional and very helpful and the project was finished on budget and pretty much on time! The builder assigned to us was particularly great - friendly, professional and worked very hard to get things finished to a high standard.

Of the five companies we contacted to take on the project, Econoloft proved to be the most professional during the initial stages, from the first appointment, drawing up the plans, planning application and ensuring all the required materials were in place at the correct time. They also arranged for the scaffolding to be completed and signed off by the appointed day. The project was the conversion of a double hip gable roof which entailed the construction of a completely new roof. The construction, led by head joiner Sotir and his team, proceeded at pace and was completed in an impressive eight weeks. The quality of the workmanship from each trade, builder, plasterer, plumber and electrician was first class. Always happy to go that extra mile Sotir ensured the smooth running of the construction with minimal inconvenience. A job of this size will always present unforeseen potential problems, but Sotir was always able to suggest solutions drawing on his considerable experience. We are very happy with the new space created covering the footprint of the house and congratulate all involved on a well-managed and executed project. Thank you.
