8/4/26 - Watched an instructor come around a corner from a 4 way junction, nearly hit two teens who had already started to cross the road by the time of his turning. Instead of braking or stopping he proceeded to blast his horn and drive by, causing them to recoil, all whist with a student on-board. This action required him to be leaning over from the passenger seat, holding the steering wheel, pressing the horn. Unless the cars aren't installed with a passenger side pedal system why would they think the above action was more optimal than braking. The instructor had no cars behind them so in the seconds it takes to lean over, honk and continue on, surely an emergency stop is advised. All you've taught your student there is to nearly hit pedestrians, and honk your horn whilst doing it. What a joke.

I would NEVER recommend BSM in Colchester…
I would not recommend BSM in Colchester based on our recent experience. My 17-year-old daughter felt very uncomfortable during her lessons due to inappropriate remarks being made about her appearance by the instructor, Jack.
As a parent, I found this extremely concerning. Driving lessons should be a safe, professional environment where young learners can focus on building confidence and skills. Unfortunately, this was not the experience we had. I would strongly advise other parents and learners to consider this before booking.
Beware the scammer Angelika Kitlasz
Beware the scammer Angelika Kitlasz, she has barely passed her exams, terrible teacher, parks outside with you for over half the lesson to save on fuel whilst talking about her failed model career or the pilots she slept with as a air hostess and tries to drag out lessons more than is needed according to dvla guidelines just to line her pocket. My sister had over 30 lessons with this rip off merchant and she has not bothered to even begin teaching a single manoeuvre. Am sure most BSM drivers are professional and not like Angelika but this one everyone should avoid like the plague.

I recently passed my test. But I wanna give a huge thanks to my driving instructor Lewis Atkins from BSM Driving School. Lewis is incredibly patient, professional, and knowledgeable, which made every lesson relaxed and enjoyable. He explains everything clearly, helps build confidence, and genuinely focuses on making you a safe and confident driver, not just someone who can pass the test. His calm and supportive approach made a huge difference to my driving. I’m very grateful for his guidance and would highly recommend Lewis and BSM to anyone
My instructor made inappropriate sexual comments
My instructor made inappropriate sexual comments to me. When I reported this to BSM and asked for a change of instructor, they said they’re not going to proceed with the complaint because the instructor denied it (which is obviously what he’s going to do!!!). It’s sad that they’re going to continue let him being an instructor because what if he has a vulnerable student who isn’t able to stand up for themselves.

I’ve been doing driving lessons for nearly 3 years, and I recently got a new instructor from BSM
• On my very first lesson, I was unwell and couldn’t attend. I texted the instructor, but he told me nothing could be done and I wouldn’t get a refund. Later, BSM told me that lesson could actually have been rescheduled instead of lost.
• On my second lesson (£64), the instructor ended the session after an eyesight check, claiming I couldn’t read a number plate at 20 meters. I’m confident the distance wasn’t correct — I’ve passed this eyesight check many times before, including in my test. He even had to put his glasses on to read it himself, never confirmed what the plate actually said, and wasn’t even wearing glasses to drive.
That’s now £128 gone without me getting proper lessons.
When I raised this with him, he left my message on read and ignored it. The company then told me that both lessons could have been moved rather than lost, and that it’s the instructor who should refund the money as the payments go directly to them — so I should never have been left out of pocket.
As a uni student working a part-time job, £128 is a lot of money to lose for nothing.
To make matters worse, my brother also had an instructor with BSM who was constantly late, cancelling, or changing his lessons at the last minute.
Still waiting on refund
Driving instructor stopped teaching, so I requested a refund for the almost £400 I had spent on lessons, through chat, as apparently I would only get £64 back on the refund page, got told it would go through within 10 working days. 2 weeks later I've heard nothing, contact them, and apparently "something went wrong with the system" so now I need to wait another 2 weeks to get my money back.
DO NOT USE BSM
BSM is Useless Do Not Use Them
BSM is, without doubt, the very worst company and website I have ever used, let alone the worst driving school.
BSM is now the complete opposite of how I used to view this driving lessons business.
I passed first time with BSM around 32 years ago and at the time I would recommended its instructors to anyone who wanted to learn to drive.
Of course it has been a franchise for, well, there is no record online of how long the company has been a franchise. Established in 1910 and then bought for £1 in 2011 by AA might give some indication that this company has had its issues.
Nonetheless I did pass first time but this was down to my instructor, which was my third as my first instructor resigned to become an ambulance driver which is ironic as I suspected him of being an alcoholic, not that he taught me in a drunken state, but I wouldn’t know if he was over the limit after binging the night before my lessons.
But there were things he did and said that would indicated he was a serious drinker. I even asked him at one point if he was an alcoholic and he didn’t give me a direct answer.
Having said all that he was a good instructor, albeit somewhat flawed with his teaching style.
My second instructor, on my first lesson with him, took over the pedals and my steering in order to catch up with a bus driver who had pulled out in front of him so he could shout abuse at him.
He had a pathological hatred of bus drivers and didn’t agree that actually they have right of way in certain traffic situations.
I quizzed him about his actions, and that this was not leading by example. He agreed that of course I should never drive like that, but that he hated bus drivers having right of way, etc, etc. After the lesson when I got home I called the BSM office and asked them to provide a different instructor.
This was at a time when BSM had shops on the high street and actual telephone numbers. My third instructor was great as I mentioned earlier he helped me pass my test first time.
But yesterday 5th August 2025, I wanted to book a series of refresher lessons with BSM.
It took over two hours to try and book a particular instructor: I used my phone, laptop, and two browsers and I just could not do it.
To add insult to injury at some point early on I had to ‘top up’ my account balance (I had successfully booked one refresher lesson in 2022 which was a good lesson except my instructor was swearing almost nonstop all the way through my lesson. I realise now I should have complained but it was a good lesson).
Anyway I booked four hours worth of lessons for £131. 10, but as mentioned I could not book lessons with the instructor I wanted. I would get as far as the section just before payment and the site would crash - this happened so many times that I almost had a panic attack. I would have given up after the first 15mins if I hadn’t payed this incompetent company £131.10.
And the help and chat section was just intolerable - I’ve asked for a refund and I hope that goes through and quickly.
But this franchise business is unaccountable - none of the phone numbers work - if there is a usable phone number I’ve yet to find it.
I have now booked refresher lessons with a really lovely instructor with great accolades and at a far more reasonable fee and I even spoke to her on the phone last night.
BSM: 0 Stars and a very unrecommended driving school.

Payed for 10 lessons. Every time a lesson was booked it was cancelled just before or even past the time of said lesson. Very poor service.

I would give this company zero stars if I could. Booked a 2 hour driving lesson a month ago and had to pay up front. On the day, the lesson was cancelled by the instructor, Edyta Ostrowska. I was asked to provide availability, did so and agreed a date and time for the following week. Literally 15 mins before the lesson, I received an email stating it was cancelled. Tried contacting the instructor, no response. No explanation, no nothing. Just the email telling me to rebook. What a shocking way to treat customers. This company should be reported to Trading Standards.
Have requested my money back but will only get the cost of the lesson back, not the booking fee. What a rip off!!!
John Bolton - 10/10 Driving Instructor
I passed my driving test 1st time, thanks to John Bolton from BSM. During all of my lessons with John, he was supportive in sharing his expertise with me. His calm and composed approach to teaching enabled me to develop both my confidence and skills. I would recommend John wholeheartedly to anyone, he’s a great person and a fantastic instructor.

Absolutely disgraceful excuse of a company cancelled my lesson 3 hours before I was meant to start a 2 hour lesson then when I tried to rebook it they attempted to charge me another booking fee all their phone lines have been disconnected meaning you can only contact them via online chat they don't communicate with the drivers about availability meaning my booked instructor wouldn't do my lesson which is disgraceful I am apauled by the lack of communication with drivers the fact they do not send another instructor to not impact the learners learning and the lack of resources to contact the company

I booked 22 two hour lessons with BSM, was thinking one of the biggest driving schools, they' must be good, but from day one it was disappointment after disappointment. I had perhaps one of the worst driving instructors, from what I could see a typical BSM instructor, his name Mohamed Alaoui, west London.
The guy is a liar, a real con-job, lies, cancels lessons 10-15 minutes prior to actual lesson and does never respond to text or calls. His modus operandi is to waste lesson time as much he can and you learn nothing from him. After all fleecing customers is all he knows how to do, if you learn something from him, it is sheer coincidence, after all, you'll surely learn more from watching a YouTube videos, then this Ponzi character. He makes rip off merchants look decent and honest.
To start with, out of 6 actual lessons I had with this rip off merchant, he was late 5 times, often 5-10 minutes sometimes 15 minutes. He argued that he gave me these lesson time back through magic of quantum mechanics and time deletion. The guy lies so much, I wonder if he is even aware his religion forbids it.
He was always late, finished lessons early and never gave me feedback on my progress, was shouty, made me very nervous and was seriously lacking professionalism and skills to deliver lessons. Called his wife on several occasions during my lessons, was disinterested in actual lessons and would charge me for a lesson even though he'd never show up. Out of lessons we supposed to have, he cancelled 7, First he cancelled October 10th lesson, then I had no lesson till November 14th, So I started on November 14th instead of October 10th, but he took money for that lesson. Had to request my money back from BSM which took them 3-5 days.
Then He'd have one lesson but cancel next lesson and so on. I had lessons on 21st November, 28Th November, 3rd December, 5th December and 9th December, 12th December he cancelled and 19th December he cancelled. He cancelled in total 7 lessons, but on 19th I had it, I cancelled BSM service and demanded my money for remaining 16 prepaid lessons to be returned. I switched my driving instructor but experience with BSM made me very upset and for these reasons alone I'll never use AA service for my car cover in any capacity, that company if it went bust would be deservedly result due to lack of ethics or morality. They protect their own, to hell with customers they're indispensable and worthless.

Unfortunately I would not recommend BSM. I had spent over £1000 on lessons only to go round in one square route for two hours repeatedly despite being able to drive on roads anyway. My instructor was informed on this and still did not let me drive on the road. I would be told to do the route again even if I had completed it perfectly. My instructor would often turn up late and no time would be made up for it at the end of the lesson. Between each circuit i would be asked to pull over and i would be spoken to for approximately 20 mins, give or take. What i was spoken to during these periods were often the same thing repeated over and over again only the words were varied slightly. I began thinking that maybe i wasnt as good at driving considering i wasnt able to drive on a main road with this company. however, as soon as i changed driving schools i was straight on the road and was told by my new instructor that i was a “natural driver” and he couldn’t understand why I was not taken on the road. Would NOT reccomend AT ALL i firmly believe this company drags out young drivers’ lessons to make more money. Unacceptable in my opinion. Dont waste your time as i did. spend the extra money on a different school who wont rip you off!!

Driving instructor arrived 20-30…
Driving instructor arrived 20-30 minutes late to all lessons, then on the final booked lesson decided to call the day prior. Called to tell me 7:30am tomorrow! Knowing I’d booked 2 weeks before this for 9am. The lesson never happened as I could not do a lesson at 7:30am therefore lost £90 and have not heard back from BSM since requesting a refund over a week ago now. AVOID. - Uxbridge Area
