DAS are the worst !!!!!

The one thing DAS are good at is turning down claims they use staff as claims handlers with no legal experience or idea of the law or qualification that would make them at least have a modicum of sense. If I didn't get this policy included with my NFU insurance I would certainly go somewhere else.

Just reported DAS to action fraud. It takes money, but never pays out. DAS insurance policy is worse than nothing. DAS has been operating insurance fraud on industry scale! Let's report it to Action Fraud.

DAS legal said will pay out and never did

DAS legal said will pay out but never did after 9 months. Then said if I want to do to legal ways, like a court to get money, they owe out them.
Bunch of lawyers taking money and not delivering on srvices, then acknowledging not willing to deliver service in writing (because you know, Courts are sooo expensive)!!!!

Reliable, expert, conscientious.

Having calm, expert, guidance and reliable sympathetic support from Larna meant I was able to steadily pursue serious failures by Leaders , my agent. Finally today, after 3 months, a result. Leaders seem to have accepted responsibility and say they will take remedial action. It’s not over etc but a complete turnaround.

Will do anything to avoid paying you

Absolutely appalling service. I reported a tenant not paying their rent over 2 months ago and still haven’t got an answer as to whether they will cover the rent under the rent guarantee scheme, despite providing all documentation at the start of the claim. We have repeatedly been fobbed off, appointments have been inexplicably pushed to the right and nobody is willing to provide me answers.
I’m currently £7000 in missed payments and this company is still avoiding paying me. Horrendous service.

Lorna has been very helpful in giving legal advice I felt at ease as the lady had explained the legal terms and had given me good advise on employment law and how the whole process works in regards to my concerns I have having on an existing claim. I felt re ensured and wasn’t feeling stressed as I was.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Sergio today regarding a horrible landlord and tenant situation that is causing me so much stress. Sergio was so patient and knowledgable guiding me forward, making me feel not so alone in my fight against my not so pleasant landlord who wants me out after 6.5 years because I wouldn’t agree to a 30% rent increase. Thank you so much Sergio.

Just like so many here

Just like so many here expressed themselves, this firm doesn't take any case serious, regardless of the position it is always below the hypothetical 51% probability rate, the other side didn't even have evidence yet the awful lawyer that we were given said the opposite, without explaining how they got to this conclusion. Indeed on paper you are covered, in reality you have no cover and you will be paying for your representation out of your pocket. Disgusting people!

Technically you have legal cover but in reality you don't

While we have legal cover on our home insurance, when it comes to using it, it is actually fairly pointless. There is a threshold of 51% which you have to reach before a lawyer will act for you, so you have to be able to prove that there is a 51% chance of success if it goes to court.

A lot of claims will be for nuisance, so the lawyer appointed for you, after weeks of delay and loads of documents which prove that you have a case, on multiple grounds, the lawyer will say that due to the exceptionally high barrier for nuisance claims, you are less than 51%.

So you are left with the same issues but no cover and no way of moving forward. So if i were you i wouldn't even bother asking them as you get the same answer no matter what is the question.

Absolutely awful service

Absolutely awful service. Typical insurance fraudsters. Do not cover you despite you having the correct cover. Try everything to worm their way out of payment.

I would highly recommend not using this company.

All I can say is nightmare

All I can say is nightmare, totally legitimate claim with my legal cover through my insurance company NFU. Who in turn appointed DAS to attend to my claim. This was back in July 2023. My claim with DAS was approved but I asked to continue using my own solicitor. DAS agreed but they have tried every time consuming trick in the book to restrict the amount of money they pay him. On more than one occasion tried to get me to dump him and go with one of their panel solicitors. It's now May 2024 and they still haven't been able to agree to pay a standard UK solicitors rate. The rate their trying to get him to accept wouldn't even cover a trainee solicitor. Until he agrees to accept a lower rate and signs to accept their terms and conditions my case with DAS has been put on hold and held up nearly 10 Months to date . Because of this I am now out of pocket £3564.00 in fees to date as the legal problem needed to be progressed forward so I authorised my solicitor to proceed without them .. DAS are not interested in me or my situation as a customer the only thing there concerned about is holding up the claim until my solicitor agrees to their unfair terms . I've now put in a formal complaint with the NFU and funding the case through my solicitor myself but it going to take the NFU another 40 days to review my complaint and come to a decision. However I have no doubt it'll end up me going to the ombudsman to get some satisfactory help. DAS legal are honestly
an absolute time wasting and obstructive company to deal with . They have absolutely no customer support at all it's all about keeping their agreed costs to the minimum. How a genuinely good company like the NFU are tied up with them is totally beyond my comprehension. And how they can be allowed to hold up a genuine time sensitive legitimate legal claim is beyond me . It really shouldn't be allowed

General Advice

Lewys Traylor of DAS Law gave me a really good steer as to my potential claim for my son. Whilst he could not inform me if my cover would cover this particular claim he did go out of way to give me some good advice

DAS were extremely helpful

DAS were extremely easy to contact. The lady who answered the phone and took the details was extremely professional and pleasant. The solicitor who rang me back, (Tom E) was extremely knowledgeable and understood my question, providing me with solid advice I would highly recommend DAS legal helpline.

Complaints process lacked integrity. Luckily I recorded calls for my protection

We have had an extremely bad experience with DAS Legal Expenses. By this, I mean the legal expenses insurance company, not the law firm, DAS Law. Both these organisations are getting reviews under this listing so I think it is important to distinguish which business I am reviewing.

DAS Legal Expenses chosen panel solicitor ceased acting suddenly citing an own-interest conflict because I informed the partner of my concerns over the solicitor's conduct in preparing for court proceedings. The evidence of what that particular solicitor had done was all in writing on their files for the partner to see for themselves. And just to be clear, this panel solicitor firm was not DAS Law but another of the very few solicitor panel firms that DAS Legal Expenses work with.

DAS Legal Expenses have then wasted months delaying getting us new legal representation whilst our case, which is in litigation and on a strict timetable, is severely threatened by DAS' complete lack of urgency in their actions. When it became apparent they were being extremely slow to get another solicitor on board in a very urgent situation they offered to process a complaint. I took them up on this as nothing else seemed to be getting them moving. However, they were sure to then take the maximum time allowed (8 weeks) before sending me a response which came up with a completely different story on why we lost our solicitor to make me look unreasonable but the customer complaints manager’s recount of events bore no relation to what I had experienced or discussed with DAS and what DAS claims team had acknowledged and discussed with me.

The main things I have learned from this which I hope will help others are:

1. Make sure you record all calls with DAS Legal Expenses. Although they say they record all calls and you can request recordings, what I have found is that the critical calls which you need to prove what has really happened don't always get sent. Luckily for me I learned this from past experience of them so this time I recorded the critical call along with many others so I have the comfort of having my own record of the true events. I could do this because they say at the start of their calls 'calls may be recorded' so it is perfectly legal to record the calls. Just make sure you get that permission recorded at the start of your call and stop them to ask them for permission if you dont hear it said.

The important part of a critical call was not provided by DAS when I received call recordings I had requested. They had cut it short. Therefore, they probably thought they could get away with giving a different recount of events as there would be no evidence. Bad luck DAS, I recorded the full call including the part of my call you had excluded from your recording!!

2. The other thing I have learned is that it can be extremely difficult to move solicitor with DAS Legal Expenses even after proceedings are issued. You are supposed to have freedom of choice then but they made it very difficult to move when we wanted to after I informed them I had concerns about how the case was being handled by their chosen panel solicitor. Eventually the solicitor dumped us for reasons that were not our fault but theirs and were linked with the very poor service that should have rang alarm bells with DAS if they monitored their panel solicitors like they claim to do.

Since then, DAS have compromised our case by leaving us without legal representation and advice for months whilst the other side takes advantage of this. Given it was their own panel solicitor that badly let us down you'd think they would have moved quickly to plug the gap with another legal representative wouldn't you? But, no, they have strung us along for months.

I have also discovered they seem to have a vested interest of some sort in the other side's case too which leaves me wondering to what extent they are engineering things to suit themselves.

Based on my experience of DAS Legal Expenses, I don't think 'First for justice' is the right slogan for them.
