I have had to change my first name or not use my photos to even get considered for tutoring on the site.
I have a degree from a top 10 university, and 4 years of outside tutoring work. But for some reason my profile always gets rejected.

Completely a scam!!! They said the first lesson was free but then later charges me $49. They lied and now im stuck with this. I did email but they said they would review my email. And havent got back

I have used Wyzant for many years for all three of my children. Its an easy platform to access but you have to do some evaluating to fit the right fit. Going for the least expensive option or someone that is the most convenient can lead to set backs. If you take the time to read the reviews, profiles, etc. you will likely find the right fit. We have had chemistry tutors, SAT tutors, music, languages, physics. They offer a broad range of tutoring.

As a tutor with years of experience and certifications, it was exceedingly difficult to establish a clientele on Wyzant. Despite being approved in 30+ subjects, I rarely was given the opportunity to connect with potential clients and almost never received a response when I did. The majority of messages I received on the platform were later deemed "not legitimate," and though I am grateful that Wyzant has moderation, it is clear that their vetting methods for students are insufficient, resulting in wasted hours applying for jobs to no avail.

Wyzant can be a ripoff. My tutor did not show up for first meeting, which was promoted as "free"..got charged $65 with all the fees..no canellation etc. Tutor claimed to have been there, so his word against mine. Wyzant refused to refund the charges, which were made without my approval. Very shaky outfit. Recommend Superprof..Wyzant looks for suckers.

You can set your own pay rate and availability -- Excellent pay overall.

You can tutor in almost any subject you want, but you will need to be approved in subjects before you can tutor them; they usually require written qualifications or passing a subject test.

The only downsides of working with this company is that it can sometimes take applying to 20+ jobs on the job board or more before you can get a single student request - it can take a couple months or more to get a steady amount of students; reviews however can speed up the process.

They tout great customer service and quick response, and a "Great Fit Guarantee". The online tutor showed up late with no notice, ended the session significantly early, then had the gall to charge us the full hour. I emailed Wyzant customer service several times to request a refund and received ZERO response. I ended up filing a chargeback with my credit card company and have now closed my account. Note that they also don't disclose that they charge you a fee on top of the tutoring amount shown until you are charged. Terrible, shady company.

I created a tutor profile with Wyzant, passed subject tests, submitted a profile summary, photo, paid for and passed the background check. My background is computer engineering in industry, including mentoring new college grads. In school, I was a TA with lab and classroom tutoring experience. I got a rejection with no clear explanation. I emailed customer support and didn't receive clarification. I simply "did not meet vetting requirements" and was told to try again in six months.

Terrible - Tudor never showed up, no response since. Customer support is non existent. Look elsewhere - the service seems terrible and really unreliable

My daughter just completed a tutoring session with Priti and we have nothing but positive things to say. Our tutor was extremely knowledgeable and professional. My daughter was having difficulty with understanding Algebra 2 graphing and Priti patiently went through several problems before checking for understanding. She offered positive feedback and asked the right questions so that she could understand why my daughter was having difficulty with graphing. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to show your child another way to solve the problem. We will definitely be going back for additional tutoring sessions.

This company is absolutely awful. They overcharged me an hour due to
their scheduling restrictions and it was their fault because they told me to go ahead and schedule and then explain to our tutor. They refused to refund my money and would only give me credit hours to use going forward which would require me to pay for another months worth of services. We will never use this company again.

It is hard to imagine someone more qualified: i have an ivy league degree in my field, have published academic books and textbooks with top publishers, and have nearly 20 yrs of teaching and tutoring experience, with all levels of college students. i am very well liked and popular with my students. i took great care to set up my profile, etc. so that it is informative and as instructed by the site. I have no criminal record and no conflicts of interest. And yet I received some vague email about not meeting the vetting process and that my account had been deactivated. Their email communications seem to be done with AI software and the service is poor at best. Complete waste of time. Based on my experience, it seems clear that they do vetting via some AI software that scans for keywords, or similar.

This company is shady and not transparent about their process. They reject people for flimsy reasons, after collecting money from them for background check. They are not upfront about any of their so-called terms. I think they just reject people randomly. If you are an aspiring tutor, avoid at all cost.

I applied to be one of their tutors and they denied me. With no specific reason why. After I asked they said they couldn't tell me. Their customer support was extremely unhelpful.

I noticed that Wyzant has a 1.5 score and that's because all of the latest reviews (6 I think) are negative - very negative. But actually, it has 84% 5 star reviews, just that the last one was written in 2024. So here I am, ready to bump this amazing company back up to at least a 4!

I've had nothing but great experiences. My daughter is struggling with the Science Regents and I found Wyzant from a simple Google search. I couldn't believe how easy it is to use the platform. We set up 4 "interviews" with tutors that seemed to fit our parameters and all of them were lovely, knowledgeable and excited to teach! We chose a tutor and I was able to view my daughter's video after her first session with no problems at all.

She had an amazing session where she was engaged and actively participating. I didn't watch the whole thing, just jumped around on it and never saw a moment where she wasn't smiling or concentrating. By the way, the tutor is Ryan M.

We love the whiteboard feature, the sharing, the messaging, the quality...all very good and really, this service is just so incredibly valuable and useful. I have worked in platform technology for a long time and the UI is really good. Don't believe the haters! There aren't that many of them (shame on you TrustPilot). Just a few people that had a bad experience should not be enough to rate a company with over 1500 reviews, most of which are 5 star, so low.

We will definitely be using this service again as we enter the high school years.

Don't use this service it is a total scam and they are money grabbers be aware! Horrible!

The tutors we have found are fantastic. If you pick carefully, you should do well, and if not, the first one is free.

Where Wyzant SUCKS is in the recordings. The lesson are supposed to be recorded so you can review again later. But their software blows it 9/10 times. Each time in a seemingly different way.

First it doesn't start recording the white board until you switch to the second board, so the first board is missing. (Oh, so you can just switch to the second board then back again and trick the system to start recording? NO! It won't start recording until BOTH 4 minutes or so have passes, AND you switch to a different whiteboard!) (This may only when you upload a PDF to review.)

Once you get past that, it randomly stops (or never starts) recording video, audio, or both. Despite the word "Recording..." flashing on the screen the whole time.

And if either you or the tutor have to leave the lesson and rejoin, forget about it. The rest of the recording is toast.

Beware of Wyzant - A Disappointing and Frustrating Experience!

I had an extremely negative experience with Wyzart, which I feel compelled to share to warn others. I booked a tutoring session with someone named Yara A., providing my credit card details as required. Unfortunately, the tutor never showed up for the scheduled meeting, leaving me waiting in the virtual room, puzzled and frustrated.
After multiple attempts to contact Wyzant's customer service with no satisfactory response or explanation, I feel misled and mistreated. This unprofessionalism and lack of accountability have led me to believe that Wyzant is not a trustworthy service. I advise everyone to be cautious and steer clear of using Wyzant, especially from dealings with the tutor Yara A. It’s disappointing to see such services taking advantage of customers. Keep away from this service and protect your personal information!

Some, or most tutors are fine. But the company, policies, business model and practices are highly unprofessional. If you are a tutor you can do better with any other place other than there - any will be more professional and friendly.
