Very disappointing experience – entire league left due to ongoing issues

Unfortunately our experience with You Play Netball has been extremely poor.

Over the course of the season there were multiple organisational and safety issues. Matches were regularly played with only one umpire present when there should have been two, which made games difficult to manage and often inconsistent. On one occasion a player fell and severely sprained her ankle, yet there was no one present with first aid training to assist.

There were also several administrative problems. Games were sometimes cancelled without teams being informed, meaning we arrived at the venue unnecessarily. On another occasion we turned up ready to play and no netball had been provided.

After repeated issues and attempts to raise concerns, all six teams in our league made the decision to leave. Instead of addressing the feedback, the team captains then received threatening letters demanding thousands of pounds in damages because we had chosen to leave the league.

To make matters worse, they are currently refusing to refund money owed to me unless their bibs are returned first. At the time this was raised, there was nothing in their published terms and conditions stating that bibs had to be returned before a refund would be issued. When this was challenged, the terms and conditions were subsequently updated to include this requirement.

Overall this has been an extremely disappointing experience. The concept of social netball leagues is a good one, but it relies heavily on good organisation, safety standards, and responsive customer service. If those areas had been handled better, none of the teams would have felt the need to leave.

Based on our experience, I would strongly advise others to proceed with caution.

Really poor communication, multiple times we arrived and there was no court or umpires. Teams who won never got medals but others did. Really poor communication whenever an issue arises. Been playing for a year but leaving this league now as it’s no longer an enjoyable experience.

I truly wished I'd read the reviews before joining this shocking company to play netball in their Bedford leagues...... Follow a complaint to Natalie in head office ( as Captain) on the unsafe state of the courts they had moved us to outside I was placed on a final warning following a 2 sided heated discussion. I stepped down as Captain to minimise contact with her in the future.
A week later we were required to play on an alternative outside court once again. A single unqualified umpire and atrocious weather caused my team to challenge some missed decisions. I hasten to add not me. Instead of following their own documented rules the umpire did not use any sanctions or penalties in the game. Our new Captain was spoken to at the end of the game. Fast forward to the following day and the whole team were removed from the Thursday league. This was all done in the space of 2 hours so no investigation was completed. Just Natalie's decision being final.
The remainder of the team are allowed to play on an alternative day with their other teams. For me, as I was on her self determined 'final warning', am banned from all matches. A team member was advised by Natalie there is no one above her to complain to so a formal complaint is frankly a waste of time.
Play at your own risk. The ladies and most umpires are great. The head office team, especially Natalie, and their lack of fair process are shocking. This seems to be a repeated pattern where teams are removed with no fair investigations completed and no right of appeal.

Please stay away. Save yourself the agony.

I played at the Bishop Stortford league from when it started in April 2025. I just left last month.

All seemed well and I was very keen to get back to netball after many years off. It was really helping my mental health more than anything. Things started to get toxic with one team in particular for all involved playing the league. The league gave them a written warning earlier in the year. More issues all with one common denominator- this same team. Many complained but nothing further was done. The team stayed.

I had issues with this team and their behaviours so I wrote directly to the league spelling out what my experience was. They said they would get back to me by the end of the week. This passed so I followed up and I told them if the outcome involved keeping that team I would have to leave. The response I received was curt and frankly rude siting personal issues causing delays. They also
stated that if the league is not for me then they would understand….Wow. Why not let me know in advance that there is a delay? I am your paying customer? This is not how you run a business.

The following week a long message was sent on the captains chat by the league- basically another blanket ‘warning’ to all of mainly about behaviours and what would and wouldn’t be tolerated ( but this message to me was tolerating it and worse, enabling it!). No further action was taken. This was hugely disappointing. I left that week as I could not bear being in that environment anymore. It was draining me mentally. The opposite reason for being there personally.

I have been very brief and not shared full details. When I tell you it’s not safe I mean it. The perception they have created is they only care about the money. There have been more injuries in this one league in less than a year than any others I have been part of. It’s diabolical. Everything is the players fault. If you voice your opinion publicly they take it personally and attack you. Saying you should go to them direct… nah if it affects everyone when there is poor or no management it should be public. Why should messages be sent privately- to save face?

This is not a cautionary tale- it’s real. Stay away.

Had a very bad experience with these for no reason. How they have conducted them selves with our team. We were top of the league and threw us for no reason. Poor umpires who were stopping and starting games. Have threatened our captain for complaining to them not a way to run a business.

Appalling company. No communication, poor umpires, halls not booked, bullied to pay subs. What a horrible experience when starting to play netball again after many years. Do not play for these people. Beth at the office a particular bully. Told me I was banned for being too competitive. What a joke!

I’ve loved netball for years, but after my previous clubs disbanded I decided to join this organisation, and it’s been a really disappointing experience. The organisers were quite rude when I first joined, simply because I had played before. I eventually found a team, but the league is extremely poorly organised.

We pay for two umpires each game, yet most weeks only one shows up. There have even been games with no umpire at all, leaving players from the league to step in. On one occasion they didn’t even supply a ball. When you call to raise any issues, you’re just told they’re “doing their best,” but nothing ever improves.

I still love netball, but this company is disorganised, unhelpful, and really lets the sport down.

If I could give You Play 0 stars I would due to their lack of professionalism and lack of care towards their customers. Back in October an incident occurred at Birmingham’s Waseley league which left 2 teams banned from You Play, 1 team which deserved it and the other who was left only to defend themselves following months and months of verbal abuse, lack of sportsmanship and poor play. This was not handed correctly by the you play staff, Emma Hunt specifically. Her attitude towards paying customers was appalling and disrespectful. Following the advice to make a formal complaint by sending a letter to their head office and you would apparently receive a tailored response back is a lot of rubbish as it took them almost 3 weeks to respond and the response was generic with no acknowledgment of their poor professionalism. No body has your back, especially the umpires. Do not join any You Play league, unless you want to be treated like a child and to not be seen or heard.

Absolutely unprofessional company a disgrace to the game of netball.

The this company will claim to want to support individuals back into the game of netball with a fun supportive friendly league.

What they will actually deliver is an unsafe, unprofessional and inappropriate league for you to play in. They will allow you to play in unsafe courts, with teams that will be verbally abusive towards others, they will allow abnoxious area managers to ignore your complaints or concerns and then threaten you with debt collectors when you express your concerns and requests to leave the league

Appalling customer care and negative, unhelpful attitude by Emma Hunt the Birmingham area manager when dealing with an on court conflict. There seems to be a like it or lump it attitude which gives off a real taste of arrogance.
Our team were put together by You Play Netball in August 2024, what a lovely surprise when we all met and got along fabulously. We created friendships and great on court fellowship. We mostly found the other teams friendly however there was 1 team that were regularly aggressive, verbally abusive and would refuse to shake hands at the end of matches. Totally contradicting You Play Netballs ethos. Despite many concerns raised with umpires and complaints into head office, the team were allowed to continue to play.
Don't be fooled by their terms and conditions which suggests they DO NOT tolerate bad behaviour on court. The team were allowed to bully and belittle our team members with no repercussions.
They do not take complaints seriously nor do they have any real care for their customers.
The way Emma Hunt handled an on court dispute this week has been frankly, unfair, biased and very cut throat. We feel we've been totally let down and unheard. When requesting You Play Netballs Complaint procedure Emma repeatedly ignored my request and failed to respond to/acknowledge the points in my emails, challenging her unfair dismissal of our team from their league.

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. Total let down.

Winchcombe league was poor which was a huge same, no duty of care ( a player broke her foot and had no communication from the organisers, not even to ask if she was ok!) unclear rules and little response. Our whole team had to leave.

Amazing!!!! It is better than I expected. Friendly, low cost, great fun!!!
Everything was well organised, I was quickly placed into a team. I didn’t know anyone and, after a long break from playing, I was nervous — but all that stress disappeared thanks to the great communication and the warm welcome from the team. We’re all in the same boat, and that sense of support shines through.
The umpires are brilliant too - not only officiating but also giving helpful tips and little bits of coaching along the way. I’m genuinely so impressed. It’s given me a real spring in my step, and I honestly CANNOT stop talking about it. So thankful to everyone who organises this. If it wasn’t for YOU PLAY NETBALL I wouldn’t have started again…

I've really enjoyed playing netball again with the right amount of competition but with fun and no pressure at the heart of it.
Our games are well organised, where there have been challenges You Play have listened and made changes for us , if you take this in the spirit it is intended it is a great way to enjoy exercise, improve your skills week by week and have an opportunity to meet new people.

I have really enjoyed playing netball with a great bunch of ladies. Great fun and always having a laugh, making exercising more enjoyable.
Any queries I had I was able to contact a lovely lady in the office called Hannah, who was always willing to help and offer advice.
Would definitely recommend!

Each week my team and I look forward to playing our netball match in a league that is fun, friendly and welcoming! Some of my team mates would say our time on the netball court is the highlight of their week. Youplay Netball has given me the opportunity to get back to netball, to build my confidence and make new friends. The sign up and weekly payment are easy and the staff are helpful and informative too.
