The Xochimilco tour
The Xochimilco tour
I will split this review up in two parts:
1. How would this trip have been with a good guide:
Should we rate this trip considering we had a good guide, we would probably give it 3 stars.
The Xochimilco is definitely worth a visit!
Our trip started off by waisting time in a jewelry shop like our guide said ‘we need to use some time before going to Xochimilco as that open late’. Then we went to Coyoacan where we almost didn’t have any time and then continued on to Xochimilco. When we left the car we were instructed not to bring any water or food, as people sold it down on the boats. We sailed out and got a bucked with ice and different refreshments. In this bucked we ran out of beer and bought one from another boat, which had to be paid immediately (40 pesos). When we had to pay for the once on our boat it was 60 pesos for a beer. Also we ordered food and each dish cost 250 pesos where you can get it on the streets for 50 pesos, we were of course not informed of the price till we had ordered. But in our opinion not worth it, as the food was very standart but at a whole other price point.
1. How was our trip:
Driver:
We had a really nice driver who picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel and we felt in good hands the entire time with him.
Guide:
We were a group of 6 people and in between there was an older couple from Canada. The woman was a bit unstable at foot but our guide kept on rushing us and especially them since they were the slowest ones.
Our guide was very rude, selfcenteret and had a very bad attitude.
The first thing he did when he got in the car was lay his seat down almost all the way, blocking our way in and out of the car (it wasn’t a problem as we are young, but he didn’t seem to take us into consideration). While driving he talked on the phone, scrolled videos on TikTok or slept when he wasn’t guiding. While he was sleeping we were talking to one of the other couples and as he woke up he turned the music up so loud we couldn’t hear each other anymore and started singing in the microphone. Once we got back and started the drop off, only one couple were dropped off (which he even got in an argument with in the drop off process) before he all of a sudden jumped out of the car leaving us and another couple in the car. Overall he seemed like he was just here for the money and just had to get it over with.
We had a very bad experience. Definitely not worth it with our guide + the other stops as the jewelry shop just seemed as a waste of time and trying to get us to spend money and we were rushed through Coyoacan. The Xochimilco was as mentioned definitely worth a visit, but the guy this agency collaborated with charged 50% more than the other boats. To us this whole trip kind off seemed like a scam!
