These people should not be allowed to operate. They prey on vulnerable people in care homes. They tested my Dad's eyes and my sister (who manages his finances) got a call out of the blue asking for £328.00 for glasses and asking how she would like to pay! He has a cataract and we are waiting for an appointment at the hospital regarding this. Any professional would have realised this. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

I was contacted today by Visioncall to say that my mother-in-law currently in a care home - needed new vari focals following a test by them. Her current prescription was 1,25 and 0.5 in the right and 0.5 and 0.5 in the left ( they said from measuring current glasses) - they said all aspects needed to be increased by 2.5D and this seemed beyond unlikely to me . They weren’t able to explain why and this alerted me to a very unprofessional outfit . They really need to be stopped - there are more nhs reviews as well all bad just google nhs reviews visioncall as link not allowed here

It’s shocking that this is allowed to happen to vulnerable people !

Vision Call tested my mother's eyes earlier this year when they made a visit to the care home where she lives. She was desperate for new spectacles.
We heard nothing for some weeks, and then Vision Call phoned me and asked whether I wanted to buy the near and distance spectacles they'd prescribed, telling me that they'd left voicemail some weeks before.
I really do not think there had been any voicemail.
I quizzed the agent who told me that each pair of glasses would improve my mother's vision by so many %.
I queried why they had prescribed two sets of spectacles as my mother can barely move her arms or hands so could not possibly remove one pair and put the other pair on. Foolishly I was persuaded by them knowing what is required, after all this is a firm of opticians that specialises in the care of th elderly, so I paid up.
The glasses arrived in a timely way but were no use at all from the start. When I put them on my mother her vision was not improved. She cannot read using the near glasses. She cannot see the tv with the distance glasses.
I phoned twice Vison Call twice, the second time on 10 June, to ask for a visit to review the prescription. Nothing happened.
I phoned again on 23 July 2021, and was told I need to phone back on Monday 26 July.
I may update this review after that.

The reviews on the NHS review site are all also very poor. I wonder whether Care Homes do any due diligence before admitting this company to provide spectacles for their residents, many of whom are at risk?

Vision Call is a web-based opticians who specialise in turning up to a home (either a private residence or an Elderly Person's Residential Care) to carry out Optical tests and to supply glasses.

This Company is used by many Care Homes and interaction with the General Public is limited. However, as I am Power Of Attorney for my mother, I got involved in having to pay the Company for a pair of glasses that had been assessed on a Home visit.

I received documentation for the work on 4 May and eventually paid by direct transfer - with their reference added - on 5 May.

The Payment process involved someone ringing me (am I really going to pay with a Card on an uninitiated call?) and, when I refused, an email being sent that gave me a Mobile Phone number to pay to when the correct number was a landline that had been set up for payments.

After having passed those details on for Fraud to be investigated I paid - as I said above - by Direct Transfer on 5 May.

It's now 19 May and the glasses have neither turned up nor has the Home been given a date for their arrival.

While Vision Call may have success with a great many Homes round the UK, my own experience is that there are questions about their level of service that needs inestigation. If you can find an alternate supplier, I would urge you to do so.
