Dodgy behaviour
I’ve shopped often at Vac Direct for my small home cleaning business. In July I bought a turbo vacuum head for $90, which performed well until a couple of weeks ago when something inside broke and it started rattling quite badly. I returned to the store to claim a warranty, and the staffer on duty confirmed it was a fault. However, I was refused a warranty claim. The excuses for not honouring a warranty included (1) Manufacturer doesn’t offer a warranty (2) There is no warranty as it is a spare part (3) It only had a one month warranty when purchased (4) The computer system won’t let me process it as a warranty claim. Contradictory comments and clearly looking for any excuse to deny the claim. I reminded them about their obligations under Australian Consumer Law, but that didn’t seem to matter. They have now lost a regular customer, all for the sake of saving a few dollars. Really poor (and just plain dumb) business practice.
