Check out veteran groups like this before becoming member or donating!

I got an email one day from a veteran organization reaching out to other veterans to come join this chapter to make this group strong and have our own groups locally but it isn't easy to find one who will do what they do till a person get to know a group better before this kind of thing. I realized that when the last event happened, the direction and instruction initially from email wasn't given very clear at all of the things you need to know before coming to the event which took place downtown Las Vegas, due to host, Dan, as a veteran worked near there and few of us live further away.

However, it was an issue coming to the first event due to parking didn't seem not affordable for two hours parking and was very crowded and congested for fear of getting parking ticket and or towed my car again, when I didn't see the parking meter close by but was further away. So before I left the event after getting the situation resolved that it was mentioned between the host and other male veterans there to have the next event somewhere else so we 'all' could come and comeraderie with each other but this is not the case.

So I found out today, Feb 27th, talking to person in charge, John, that nothing was said from the host about that conversation of last event to the person in charge of the program about a change of venue for the next event. In fact, not much was said that I helped give in the tip money or for food money. The person in charge states he knew this host long enough not to intentionally put the location same place again for the next event. This location I"m referring to is very crowded and congested location instead of working to have every and all veterans to come and enjoy and not worry about parking. if there were issues with me from them, they could have said something to me but they didn't. I said something to them about the past parking there years ago but to have this again at the same location for the next event and to exclude certain veteran or female veterans as a retiree.

It seem like the host doesn't share much to the person in charge as to what happened from last event of my issue but like it's not a big concern to them but it was for me when some bad experience happened from downtown from there years ago that they didn't go through.

I called up the host today, Feb 27th, asking him what happened of the last conversation where the location would be somewhere else for next event and he said it'll be same location again from last event. As we're talking, I hear background noises him moving things while we're talking and not sure if he was listening to anything I said to him but he said he heard what I said. So I cut the conversation short realizing they don't want every veteran, even a female retiree veteran, to show up is only for their convenience; whereas, this is not convenience for all veterans even to a female, trying to join and cameraderie with them to expand our own chapters to their cause.

What a sad disappointment I got from this group them trying to make a difference for our veterans but I didn't see it much where there needs to be more sharing communication amongst each other in a compassionate inclusive ways to include all veterans, even females, as it should have been advertised earlier, no female veterans to join this group. They won't go far if this keeps up from the host not genuinely respecting to all veterans, even to females but felt disrespected by host and dismissed from this group.

Honestly

Honestly, the University of Nevada, Reno has a surprisingly friendly vibe for a state school, and their website is actually pretty solid for finding the info you need about majors and course options. Professors actually seem invested in helping students, and there's a decent mix of classes, especially if you're into science or outdoor adventures. The student life scene is pretty lively, with tons of clubs and the whole Wolf Pack sports experience, plus Reno has a unique energy. But the best part? The location is insane – hiking, biking, skiing on real mountains, and Lake Tahoe is just a short drive away. If you're independent, want a good education with amazing outdoor access, UNR is definitely worth checking out.

This university (especially its chemistry department) is bad

This university is bad, just like its rankings. I'm not saying university rankings are always fair, but in the case of the University of Nevada, Reno, its rankings on the league tables reflect its reputation and cabability - it may be one of the worst R1 universities in the US. It's not international. There's clearly a lack of diversity in its students and staff. And even their staff in the Office for International Students & Scholars don't have international experience and they are clueless in how to help international students/scholars. And this university doesn't have a DEI team. None of its departments has a DEI team. Nobody in this university seems to care about any DEI issues. And departments never want to provide extra support for internationals or new employees. The lack of essential guidance for new comers is appalling.
If you intend to work for the chemistry department, you need to be very careful. There are some very hypocritical academics there. They pretend to be nice but their true colors will astonish you. They may stab you in the back. They think they're the emperors and they do whatever they want. They can always get away with the nasty things they did because the department always protects them. The university, because of its messy management and lack of duty of care, also don't intervene even when your interests are severely hurt by those toxic academics. You need to be very very careful, or you could just avoid working in the chemistry department of this university. There are better universities and better chemistry departments in the US. There are also better places than Reno in the US.
