As per other reviews found it once you subscribe, they make it very difficult to cancel. My requests for cancellation have been ignored. I was uncorrectly billed and they say the email address I used to contact them is not associated with my subscription. Terrible customer service. Also found it hard to stop receiving there marketing emails. Highly recommend not subscribing!

Impossible to unsubscribe. Have emailed at least 3 times with no response. The phone number listed is not a working number. Am contacting my bank . Don’t bother subscribing, few decent articles not worth the effort

I can’t believe a serious and highly respected man as Richard Dawkins would write a legendary article and choose this magazine for publishing it!!

I subscribed to read Dawkins’ extremely interesting article on artificial intelligence. After that, they try to bill my credit card for renewals I never agreed to. Customer service is either silent or answers with irrelevant arguments.

Luckily, my credit card provider identified them as scam already before I complained, so no money lost.

Reasonable content, but they have an auto-renew that if you don’t cancel three days before renewal goes through, and unlike reputable companies, they send no warning of this. So if you subscribe, make sure you immediately cancel so the auto-renew doesn’t kick in.

However Unherd is a scam which keeps on taking your money despite best efforts to cancel

I must be a masochist. I had a bad experience with UnHerd a while ago and successfully requested a refund. Alas I was tempted back because the writing is so good. I paid my subscription by Visa card three days ago, no confirmation of receipt but they’ve got the money… and I still can’t access my account. This is the worst customer service ever and I lived in
Eastern Europe…

Like everyone else, I have found it impossible to unsubscribe. I have spoken with my card issuer and thy have put a stop on the account. Disgusting practices!

I would give 0 stars if I could. I wish I had read the review beforehand because I have experienced exactly the same issue. No response to my emails to cancel my subscription, on the app it stated there was no account associated with my name but then a subscription was taken from my bank months later. Thankfully my bank have stopped all future payments but doubt I will receive a refund from unherd. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THIS SHADY NEWS OUTLET!!

Good writing but as with other reviewers I am shocked by their approach to subscriptions. There is no way to cancel the subscription indicated on the site or in the app. I emailed customer service and instead of saying ‘here is now you can cancel your subscription’ they said they couldn’t see a subscription with my email address. They made no effort to look up my account, and have not yet replied to my follow up email. It appears there is no way for end user to cancel the sub themselves. Agree this is a ‘dark pattern’ which should be outlawed.

They renewed my subscription for $99 and will not return the funds. I am worried because they have my credit card.

Absolutely terrible customer service. Broken login flows on the mobile site / app. Dark patterns not showing the subscription management page. Do NOT subscribe to this company.

I subscribed to this news site about five months ago. The site allows paying subscribers to submit comments. If you're male, you can submit any comment you like. If you're female, your comment may never see the light of day. It's a nasty, sexist outfit. Do not give them money if you are female. They demand you sign up under your real name and post under your real name. They can tell if you're female. I have complained about their moderation and haven't had any feedback. I'm not posting anything untoward.

I have been denied access to Unherd for over two years now since my subscription suddenly stopped working on my phone. They are still taking payment however. They claim they have no record of my subscription but they are still taking money out of my bank account every month so they have a record of that. They won't cancel this payment in spite of numerous requests.

Just another playlist scam. bunch of bot driven playlists offering feedback and or "tons of plays" for a fee. If have money to waste go here.

I began subscribing to UnHerd a year ago and renewed my annual subscription on August. Four days ago I was locked out of access.
After an exchange of over twenty emails in the course of which I was told to change my browser and post an ‘image’ without my account being reactivated I asked - four times- for a refund. Still waiting.
Customer service is a n oxymoron

The journalism is for the most part outstanding. Their access to their content is wonky & unreliable.

It’s VERY apparent they want you to subscribe & auto-renew. Before signing up, this is accepting cookies, multiple email sign-up opportunities and repeated trial subscription offers.

The minute you turn off the auto-renewal function on your subscription (not easy & can’t be done thru account settings), the relationship decidedly shifts to the negative.

There is no password reset option. Requests go nowhere. Then, you use a Google or FB login to access their articles. They were sending daily emails with featured articles but those stopped coming with ~ 3 months left to the subscription.

The communication I received frequently were ‘unbelievable’, low 3 month trial offers, inducing me to subscribe (& sign up for auto-renew, which is hard to cancel).

I wrote the company as the subscription was coming to an end, telling them it was hard to threaten to deny a benefit I hadn’t been receiving.

I never heard back and the last email came a couple of weeks later, saying the subscription had ended. Good writing with exceptional long-form, opinion analysis but the operational part of the business SUCKS!

UnHerd paywalled my account back in August 2023, despite charging me a monthly subscription fee. I have repeatedly emailed them to get them to stop charging my account, because they paywalled me. They continue to politely deflect my request. So they continue to paywall me, but also continue to charge me a monthly subscription. They are charging me for no service whatsoever, and there seems to be no way to stop them. I wish I could report them to the UK police, but there's no point, they won't do anything either.

The journalism is ok…but if want want to unsubscribe the only way of doing it is to send an email which they quietly ignore.

This is disgusting behaviour, but no doubt profitable.
