Poorly Run Customer Service and Questionable Practices
I am a banker for 20+ years so I know a lot about the industry. All banks are bloated at the top and thin on the customer-facing ground level. Bank IT groups are over paid fools that make stupid and unchecked decisions, which directly impact customers. Ulster Bank has raced to the bottom because they are in free fall and no longer care about Irish customers. Like others here, I inexplicably lost access to my online accounts. This left me blind to direct debit activity and unable to pay my mortgage (also, unwisely with Ulster Bank). Because I could not see any activity, I was not aware that they had stopped my direct debit for my mortgage. To be clear, I had enough money in my accounts to PAY OFF my mortgage if I so chose, but that didn't factor into their model. After numerous calls to their service desk that went nowhere, I filed a complaint online. Even though the episode cost me 100's in fees, they offered me $25 to shut up and go away, but they still did not turn my savings account back on online, leaving me without visibility and access. I did not take the $25, and 2 months later my current account disappeared again without any explanation and my mortgage was back in arrears, even though the payment was still being sent. It turns out that I owed .44 on my mortgage so they put it in non-performing status and threatened to take me to court. I went to a branch and with no small measure of contempt, slipped a 50c coin to the cash teller, who was very embarrassed. Did I get my accounts back? Nope. At this point I suspect that Ulster Bank wants to shield my savings to strengthen their overall portfolio when they sell their accounts. They are despicable and I am glad they are going away. Good riddance to the worst bank in Ireland.
Their departments seem not to know what…
Their departments seem not to know what is happening. They can block your account and make it almost impossible to solve any issues at all. Very poor customer service and do not even bother doing their job. They will literally leave you penniless and almost laugh in your face, even though there are enough money in the account.
Pinching penny’s from pensioners
I would give them zero if I could. I’m so disappointed in there service. My parents (both pensioners) have had accounts with them for over 57 and 40 years respectively. During the financial crisis sadly my dad fell on hard times, his account was overdrawn but he agreed a repayment plan with the bank and has been abiding by it without fault for over a year. Then out of the blue they closed my mums current account and took her old age state pension payment leaving them both in considerable hardship. They didn’t even give her any warning or reason for closing the account. Once she complained she got a ‘letter’ (which was very poorly written) which was undated, that informed her of the closure. Obviously covering their tracks. Shame on them. They must be in trouble if they need to pinch a pension from a granny.

Good bank in a sense of day-to-day activity however fees can be high and on precedented

Staff always helpful but processes seem to be awkward at times! Couldn't tell me for sure if my card would work when buying my car - it did - but would be good to know in advance so as not to worry.
Absolutely horrendous
Absolutely horrendous, duplicated and wiped off 3 of my accounts in online banking, now have to jump through hoops to restore them and to add insult to injury, I have to wait on the imbecile$ to post a code pin to me, meanwhile I cannot perform important transactions. Receiving letters thanking for letters that I didn't even send???!! Admin is a feeble joke and call centre staff are arrogant ignorant p1gs to boot. Moving to BOI today...
The Ulster Bank
I went to Ulster Bank to transfer some cash. I am 80 years old and I had to stand at the counter while the transaction was conducted which took about 15 minutes. I did the exact same transaction with Danske bank and I was given a very comfortable seat in a private alcove.
Poorly defined processes for dealing…
Poorly defined processes for dealing with customers requests. It has taken me three months to try to close an account with the bank. Continual requests for information but not requested at start of process. All manual. No online services. Took me two weeks to close a similar account with Santander.

Don't know why I stayed with this shxt bank for so long, laziness on my half.
I'm trying to cancel a d/d and talking to the man in the moon would be easier. Every time I try to do something it's a mountain to climb.
I got cut off on their premium charge number 1850 twice and Web chat can't help for some reason and refer u to phoneing😠
Its no loss and no wonder that this crappy bank are going.
This bank doesn't deserve any stars
This bank doesn't deserve any stars. Absolutely one of the worst banks I've ever come across. If you need any help they want you to ring, which you are put on hold for ages. Then on top of that their numbers aren't freephone numbers so you get charged like crazy. Also their staff are rude and impolite. No wonder this bank is closing it's a disaster of a bank. I'll be switching banks as soon as I can because I'm not going to stay another minute with this bank.
Zero rating is my choice but site…
Zero rating is my choice but site prohibits.Ulster bank is a grasping vicious, organisation that tried to frighten my husband and I,in regards to our home,We have complained to the FSO with the assistance of Money and Budgeting Services. How this "bank " got a license to operate in Ireland defies logic.Dont be afraid of them,Ask MABS for help then they can't disempower You any longer, All the best
Do NOT bank with this bank
Do NOT bank with this bank. The customer service is terrible, worst I’ve seen in my life. They couldn’t amend a payment transaction for me, whenever I called they would seem like they are helping me but then just cut the line right in my face ( as they don’t have the answer to what I need). I called 4 times, 2 of which I got a lady called Barbara, if you hear this name just ask for another person to talk to.
Very disappointed
Very disappointed. I opened two bank accounts for my kids and I was told only one parent can be named on it. After me seeing an advisor about it and requesting what could I do to have both parents named on the trust account, I was still told that’s is nothing I could do, only one parent can be named. I said, after talking with my partner, that we going to close the account and see what’s to be done. Went to the bank today, as I had an appointment, and I said I want both my kids account to be closed as is no point to have only one parent, then the surprise came. The advisor actually said, no, it is possible to have both parents named on the account. They only had to do another form, so so disappointed and I just closed both accounts. More training to the people working there, that’s what I’m asking.
Left me without access to my account for four months now!
They don’t even deserve one star. After fraud was committed on my account in November 2020, they have been nothing but USELESS. I still don’t have access to my money. Horrible CS. They have wrongly sent out my PIN about seven to eight times by now. The one time it arrived, it was a blank one. Nothing but empty apologies and rudeness, bar a few lovely ladies who unfortunately couldn’t help me one bit. Can you imagine? I’ve had to borrow money because I couldn’t pay my bills, but Ulster couldn’t care less. “Apologies for the inconvenience.” Useless.
Very poor,unfriendly,untrained customer…
Very poor, unfriendly, untrained customer service hang up the phone on me doesn't want to listen my problem/issue with the banking
If I could give less than 1 star I…
If I could give less than 1 star I would. Given misinformation not once, not twice but five times by five different members of staff. On the sixth attempt the customer service representative hung up on me. As someone who works on a helpdesk myself, I was shocked.
Really horrible experience
Really horrible experience. On Friday I had money come into my account (expected) but a complete scam/fraud payment was taken from me that left me with less than a tenner, Ulster bank where no help to me at all, I spoke with a woman named Sarah who I told all my issues to, I have kids etc, well Sarah decided to reply to me by saying
“ have you heard of food banks?” I was absolutely offended and upset that this was my offer after getting money stollen from my account
I then spoke to a man on the phone who I explained everything too and he just didn’t understand it, basically blamed me for the fraud and said “ it’s like going to Tesco’s for a full shop and wanting to claim when you get home”
No this was not the same thing at all, I did not sign up to anything like that and the reviews from the fraudsters all state the exact same and neither of them signed up for it so I was made out to be stupid basically.. I’m currently looking at other places to bank with instead of Ulster bank. Nobody wants to bank with somewhere that does not care for customers
Congrats on leaving Ireland
Congrats on leaving Ireland. You withdrew my mortgage offer in the past for no genuine reason. Your team would not give me answers about anything. Also trolling me while responding to complaints as if lawyers telling you how to cover your back.
Not only that, but prior to the mortgage offer, it took you a year and lots of begging to approve the application although have with my partner an excellent profile. And still, you DID NOT want to give a letter of offer for many months!!!!!!! Congrats on leaving Ireland. BYE
Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service. Have been transferred to 5 different departments and no queries resolved. it is not just one time every time it is the same. I will definitely switch to some other bank where I don't have to go through automated operator for 8 mins and always answered by wrong people which are useless.
