Butt Covering Protocol of Toronto Public Library

I sent the following email to Yorkwoods Library Senior Branch Head Stephen Arroz & Yorkwoods Services Manager Young Lak Jin some time ago

"Dear Stephen & Young,

I wanna to report a xxxxx female staff of yours who seemingly was disliking the rare brief quietness this library has this evening & engaging a mainly social conversation non-stop with a male security person between 6-7:05 pm on today's date as if they were not aware of other library users nearby.

Library staff should almost always bear in mind that they work in a library & I believe it was also highly inappropriate for her to refuse flat to provide her name when requested.

Please look into this matter as I found this staff often ignores the quiet rule in the library as talks too loud too much too often. She 's especially rude being a public servant to not give her name.

Thank you & I look forward to a response from each of your offices."

I received no answer from them whatsoever. This is another typical example to counter the Toronto Public Library bureaucracy's claim that they always wanted to hear about library users feedbacks & make improvement, etc. What an on-going big total liar

Based on my personal experience since 2009, too many of these Toronto Public Library management & frontline people choose to hear nothing, see nothing & say nothing about a vast majority of my complaints taken to them either face to face or in writing. To 100% of these TPL personnel, their only & most primary objective is their job & payroll security as far as I am concerned. They are hardly public employees to help & serve people of Toronto.''

I went to the library today

I went to the library today. And I felt invisible. No hello, no good bye. A person sitting at the front desk is engrossed in the computer. Doesn't even look at me. Hello, how are you? I see you here a lot. You come to the library every week. Can I recommend you some of our new
arrivals? I put my books in a slot for returns, pick up my holds, check them out myself and go home. Sad.

Flee Market is better

I have a very short sentence for describing Toronto Public Library. It looks like a flee market. There might be less noise and more order in a flee market than there is in these libraries.

Working, Studying, and Homeschooling at TPL

I have only been to three branches so far: Fairview, Yorkville, and the Toronto Reference Library; yet each one has its own personality and vibe.

Fairview Library:
It is a perfect spot for working remotely. The place is quiet and comfortable, and there is a nice energy since there are always a few other people working or studying. The second floor has vending machines (a big plus if you are there for a while), and there are plenty of couches and tables. They also have a higher table with bar stools or if you want a standing desk-type (if you are tall enough).
The staff are friendly and warm, and even the visitors seem to reflect that energy. Also, bonus points; they always seem to have a good stock of the $3 tpl tote bags.

Yorkville Library:
It is much smaller than Fairview; but it is really well set up. There is a large children’s area with a mat, toys, and books; and it is separated from the quiet reading area by a wall, which is great for everyone. The staff did not feel as warm here, possibly because it is downtown and they have more to manage. There is a security guard by the entrance and near the book aisles, which gives it a slightly stricter atmosphere.

Toronto Reference Library:
This one is huge and impressive; it has everything you could need for studying, research, working remotely. It is a great space for adults. Not ideal if you have children, since there is no dedicated children’s section or books for younger readers.
