Leyton Mills Gym is shit…
Leyton Mills Gym…
This is a shit gym. I’m on the off-peak which is now £27 which is not the UK’s cheapest as they continually blurt out.
The showers are piss-poor and very weak in terms of strength of water shooting out.
The lockers are shite and can be forced open by anyone with a screw driver so your things are not secure at all.
People hog lockers for months, especially the big ones which is unfair.
Also, the music is shite. In fact, why have music when people have their own personal music and ear buds???
One star but would have given lower if available.
Let’s hope I win the £250 they’re offering for the review!
The staff here are terrible
The staff here are terrible. The only PT that knows what he is doing is the guy specialising in power lifting. Got told off for benching without the collars on the bar as apparently it’s a health and safety risk, meanwhile there was a man benching next to me and he wasn’t told to use the collars. I understand that there are rules, but if you are going to enforce them you got to have the same rules for everyone. This place has really gone downhill since Chris the old manager left.
Update- have now been presented with an email that I have breached the rules and it’s been noted. Does it actually say anywhere that I must have the collars on the bar? My issue is being told off when the man next to me was also benching without the collars on his bar. My 2 star review is now going to be changed to one star!
The Gym Group
**The Gym Group – Staples Corner Review**
I was a long-standing member of The Gym Group, Staples Corner, and unfortunately my overall experience reached a point where I decided to leave and join another gym.
This review is not intended as a personal attack on The Gym Group as a whole. I understand that other branches may be very different, and for some people this gym may be suitable, especially if they are looking for something affordable and basic. However, based on my personal experience at the Staples Corner branch, I no longer felt it was the right environment for me.
My main concerns were around overcrowding, hygiene, equipment availability, gym etiquette, staff approachability and how my final situation was handled by local management.
The gym was often overcrowded, with too many members for the amount of available equipment. This regularly meant waiting around for machines or feeling rushed while using them. At times, the atmosphere felt more like people were competing for equipment rather than training in a respectful shared space.
Hygiene was also a consistent concern for me. In my experience, many members did not clean equipment after use, and there did not always appear to be enough basic facilities available for members to properly wipe machines down. The men’s changing room and toilet area were also not always maintained to the standard I would expect, especially given the number of people using the gym. The smell in that area was often unpleasant, and I witnessed poor hygiene habits from some members, including people leaving the toilet area without washing their hands.
Another issue for me was the general atmosphere. There are many younger members who may be starting their fitness journey, which is fine, but in my opinion there needs to be more guidance, supervision or induction around gym etiquette, especially for those who may not fully understand how to behave in a shared training environment. There were times when the gym felt more like a social space than a focused training environment.
I should also say that not every member of staff gave me a negative impression. There was one lady who worked there and also did personal training sessions who was always approachable, friendly and good-spirited. She brought a bit of warmth and humour into the gym, and her sessions always seemed enjoyable and positive. She was one of the few people there who made the environment feel more welcoming.
However, outside of that, I did not generally find the staff or management particularly approachable.
The final reason I left was due to how a situation involving my own specialist training equipment was handled. I have wrist issues and carry a small bag containing personal grips and attachments that help me train safely and properly. I had used this equipment for a long time without issue.
On the day in question, the manager approached me while I was mid-training on the treadmill and questioned me about my bag and equipment. I felt this was not the right time or manner to address the issue. A respectful conversation after my session would have been far more appropriate. Instead, I felt interrupted, challenged and spoken to in a way that came across as aggressive.
What made it more frustrating was that other people in the gym, including staff and trainers, appeared to have bags or equipment with them without the same issue being raised. That made the situation feel inconsistent and unfair from my perspective.
The matter then escalated to my membership being suspended, which left me feeling uncomfortable and no longer respected as a member.
I raised my concerns with The Gym Group and sent follow-up emails, including requests for clarification around my membership, complaint and personal data. Unfortunately, I did not receive the level of response or communication I would have expected.
Since leaving, I have joined another gym where my training needs and wrist issues have been listened to and respected. That has confirmed to me that moving on was the right decision.
To be clear, I am not telling anyone not to join this gym. Everyone has different needs and expectations. If you want a low-cost gym and are comfortable with a busy, high-volume environment, it may work for you. But if you are a serious trainer looking for space, cleanliness, equipment availability, good etiquette, approachable staff and a more mature training atmosphere, my personal view is that Staples Corner may not be the best fit.
This is simply my honest experience, shared so others can make their own informed decision.

There are not enough words to describe the gym staff team personal trainers & cleaners within the Gym Group Hall Rd. I’ll try, unforgettable approachable helpful inspiring motivational friendly funny, the place is immaculate, they all mop in! Love the Blues Brothers 🕶🕶

The gym is always very clean and well maintained, which makes it a pleasant place to work out. The equipment is good, and the overall atmosphere is great. However, it would be really helpful if more classes could be offered in the afternoons, as not everyone is able to attend the morning sessions due to work or other commitments. Adding afternoon classes would make the gym more accessible and convenient for many members.

Rules dont seem to apply to staff who treat the gym like their own tv studio for their social media, tripods everywhere and machines reserved out. A few of the trainers also seems to also think workingout topless is acceptable. Overall the place is a mess, groups kids using it as a hangout. There are better friendly gyms nearby
Gave me back my water bottle
Gave me back my water bottle! Great gym
Car park gives illegal PCNs.
Cannot help when one of their facilities uses a car park for that gives illegal PCNs.
Being able to contact support is basically non existent - in itself dodgy.
The gym group ‘cannot help with it’ and talking with any help from the Gym Group will fob you off.
Anyway save yourselves and go to their competitor
Fantastic gym let down by poor quality showers
The gym equipment is excellent, with a wide range of machines and plenty of availability. The car parking is convenient, and the location is great.
Unfortunately, the shower facilities let the gym down. I regularly use the gym before work and rely on the showers afterwards, but the water temperature is very inconsistent, frequently alternating between lukewarm and cold. The water pressure is also unreliable and varies throughout the shower, making it difficult to have a proper wash before starting the working day.
This is particularly frustrating because not everyone has the option of going home to shower after a workout. For those of us who use the gym before work, reliable shower facilities are essential.
I have raised this issue previously, but nothing appears to have changed. The response has largely been a shrug of the shoulders rather than any meaningful action.
It’s a real shame, as the rest of the gym is very good. The equipment, parking and location are all positives, but the poor shower facilities detract from what would otherwise be an excellent gym.

Unable to find the off peak hours for entry to gym as the website is very confusing as it used to be 8.00 till 4PM nut website says all different hours
Trash GYM
Trash GYM - The water machine was down for over a week, there's not enough machines in the gym and most of the machines are just run down - not to mention if a machine is out of order, it takes a few weeks for them to be up and running again.
Don't go - go somewhere else.
Cancelled and then ask to rejoin
Paid and locked me out. Email no response end up paying twice in one month.
My membership was also cancelled and was asked to rejoin.
Dodgy business practices
Dodgy business practices. Extremely hard to cancel. Customer support is nonexistent. Gyms are rarely staffed and when they are, staff is unfriendly and unhelpful.
Introductory offers are good but the positives quickly fade away.
Rude staff
Rude staff. I was using a punch bag, and it was demanded I wear gloves. When I questioned this the staff member was rude and refused to get the manager for me I sat waiting in a seating area, said staff member watched me leave my vape on the table whilst waiting for the manager. I came back within a few mins of realizing and the staff member had deliberately thrown it in the bin.
Immature.
I love gym group it’s so welcoming
I love gym group it’s so welcoming, friendly and a nice environment. The gym group Camberwell staff is so friendly and the pt’s even if they have jobs they are also open to help others. The subscriptions is good however for students there’s only discounts on the year one which is very expensive whereas not for monthly

Well equipped and good value with a few issues. Loses points for no cleaning stations by equipment, damaged lockers, used water bottles left strewn around the gym and members sitting on machines playing with their phones for long periods which is incredibly frustrating when you're there to train. Lots of members slamming down weights too which is totally unnecessary and disruptive.
Great experience

I joined this gym because I wanted to try it out, but I was disappointed with the experience. The facility did not feel particularly clean, and I was surprised that disinfectant spray and cleaning cloths were not readily available for members to clean equipment after use.
When I requested a refund, customer service told me they would forward the request to the accounts team, but nobody explained that the process would take 2–3 days. When I followed up through the customer service chat, the representative came across as patronizing rather than helpful.
Overall, I found the experience unprofessional and frustrating. Better communication, cleaner facilities, and more respectful customer service would go a long way.
