Surest a United Healthcare Company - a disgrace to UHC
Surest - a United Healthcare Company.
They have the worst practices to delay paying the providers on time, specially if you as a provider are sending them a manual copy. Keep a color copy of the completed form you are mailing as they would say the NPI info is not in the right column or is not in the center of the column. Any excuse to delay your payment. Finally when you get hold of an agent , they would do you a "favor" by confirming your info is there, and take another 30 to 45 days processing it. It's frustrating that this has happened a couple of times.
Avoid if you're wanting IVF
I've been trying to find out my coverage for IVF for over 55 days, no one can tell me literally ANYTHING about it. I've had specialist assigned, the chat feature, multiple emails, calls, multiple people telling me they'd call me back no one does. The small info I have is wrong and they apologize. Its only Feb with this new company and it's already nothing but headaches. The staff doesn't even understand the coverage.
Gaint scam
They just lie cheat and steal.there copay are way wrong 90% of the time.then u get a bill for double or triple what there site says.its need up costing us more out of pocket.its just a scam.between them and your employer.
Garbage Health Insurance — stay away!
Medication that used to cost me $10 copay is now $90, now I will need to try and figure how I can live without this medication. You are all disgusting thieves. Stay away from Surest at all costs!

I had authorization for a spinal surgery now a little over a month later I am told not covered because surgery needs to be activated. When the provider called was not told about this. I was told could win on appeal but would cost me 10k in additional premiums to cover the surgery on top of the 2500 I already paid in copay. Having additional premiums makes it so doesn't go as out of pocket so will not max it out at my 6700. I can't afford the 10k in premium and if had known would have not done surgery when I did and waited till 2025 since this is not on new benefits.
Avoid Surest insurance if at all possible
I started three weeks ago to get coverage for my back surgery. I work in the schools and knew the recovery time would be lengthly. My surgery was scheduled for June 7th. On May 24th I was told that my insurance through Surest was activated. The surgeon called the next day and said it was blocked. I was asked to wait three days for the claim to be activated. Three days later the surgeon called and said it was blocked. I called Surest they reassured me that that everything was fine. I called the surgeon. They said the cold was blocked. After several attempts to understand the situation and why I was being told one thing and the Surgeon another my case went to a higher review(This was due to the fact that Surest would not accept the codes the surgeon was giving.)This took until June 4th. On June 4th I was given an activation code and was told that I would be able to have the surgery. On the 5th the surgeon called and said the code was not activated. I called Surest and was guaranteed that I should be able to show up to the hospital. I was told there was no activation that needed to happen and that I should be good to go. On the fifth at 4:00 I received a message from my surgeon stating the surgery was not activated. At 5:00 I called Surest, I was firmly told that everything was fine, to get on the Surest Website, take a picture of my claim, send it to my Dr of what is being activated and I should be able to have my surgery. I did as I was directed. On the 6th at 10:30am the Surgeon called and said the insurance had not activated the claim yet. I told the surgeon that I was told I should be able to show up at the hospital and be good to go. They said they would call Surest. At 3:30 the surgeon said that they still have not activated the claim yet. After I was able to put both the insurance and the Surgeon on the same line, Surest put us on hold for 15-20 minutes came back and said that they were truly waiting for the claim to be activated and it would take 14 days. They said that they could try to get it to go through tomorrow on the 7th but the surgeon would not do the surgery without the insurance being activated. Due to this absolutely horrific error on Surest part, I know have to rescheduled my surgery a month out and will have to miss a month of school in which I should not have had to miss. I will miss a month worth of salary and the initial beginning of meeting my students. This is unacceptable. Surest needs to learn to communicate within their departments and not lie to their members about what is going on. I have worked with several insurance companies through my own work and working for others and I have never experienced such a lack of professionalism in processing claims, knowledge about codes and communication among departments. Stay away from Surest.
Those I did talk with were very kind but they did not have the knowledge to help me get to the surgery I desperately needed. I do not blame the workers I blame Management.
Absolute scam
Their app basically just searches Google and comes up with a number. They "offer" "free" telehealth for "urgent care" or "mental health" services. Both are a lie. I was not only charged for both but *more* than if I DID NOT HAVE ANY INSURANCE. I tried going to "covered" "urgent care" services foe a huge copay. 5/6 could not confirm who Surest even was and couldn't determine if I had coverage--mostly because THEY'RE PRIVATE DOCTOR'S OFFICES who ONLY do on call services for ESTABLISHED PATIENTS. 1/6 said they keep trying to get de-listed from Surest because THEY DON'T ACCEPT THEIR INSURANCE DUE TO NEVER GETTING PAID. The telehealth services are a complete joke. The only one that I was actually able to see a provider on was Teladoc and they said I needed to go to the ER. Wanna guess what the cost of going to the ER is? More than if I had had a deductible: 100% out of pocket unless I'm admitted, then "only" $1,200 a day for a maximum of 30 days. I'm so glad foe the ACA unwinding and making sure that out of my $30k a year I'm paying $450 a month for unusable insurance because my employer is out of Virginia and doesn't have to offer d###.
Cost me my therapist
Cost me my doctor! Worst health insurance experience I've ever had. Confirmed in network status and co-pay in the app before continuing with existing provider when employer insurance changed. 3 months later we get claims back as out of network. For weeks my provider and I went back and forth being told 2 different things. Though the claims were put through to be re-processed we never (and still do not) have accurate information on the network status of my provider. As an individual without a billing department and myself having severe conditions requiring weekly visits, I was let go from her services and started on the process to find a new provider. Thankfully my old provider went above and beyond to ensure I was able to get care elsewhere. At no point did surest offer to CC my provider on e-mail communications, do a conference call, etc. All they would do is call her and leave a vague voicemail (claim they can't provide the network status information in a voicemail). When she would call back, she was told she was out of network.
Surest even had difficulty confirming the network status and copay for my new provider. Despite the emphasis they put on the app/ website, it isn't accurate. They will also not hesitate to blame the patient in cases like this. It was apparently my responsibility to call them with the provider number and TaxID to confirm coverage, very different to the allegedly easy to use app where you can "shop around".
Thankfully that worked out regardless of this company's incompetence.
Surest didn't care this issue could have landed me in the hospital. I wasn't even offered a continuing care plan until I mentioned how their delays are putting my safety at risk. The last "advocate" I spoke with laughed at my situation and argued with me about the accuracy of the app. I've never been more disgusted with a service or treated as poorly as this. Avoid them at all costs. If this is all your employer offers, I would go through the ACA.
I lost money
I lost money, lost my doctor and lost my mental health dealing with Surest. the company is a scam that has no intentions to provide medical care or reimburse you for claims. They made me loop into a logistical nightmare until i gave up on getting my money back from them.
you cant email them, talk to claims dept, update mailing addrress, only communicate through postal service back and forth for a year if you have patience. Ultimately they will drive you crazy that you stop seeking reimbursement.

Worst insurance I’ve ever had and $80 a month. It’s as though it’s designed so you cannot use it because one has to jump through so many hoops to use the insurance. You are told one thing to find out it’s wrong. Try to get a precert on the weekend!!! Laughable. The number on the card disconnected me 4 times. Vaccines? No, you have to go to the doctor only , per them, but you check with local places like Kroger pharmacy and they say yes it’s covered. Worst insurance to use I’ve ever had. They make it so difficult to use that many people probably give up. Can’t wait to dump this garbage!
Surest plan is WORTHLESS
The surest plan is supposedly the best plan my employer CoreCivic offers. I soon learned that they are worthless. After being denied my Ozempic, they made me give them 2 years of medical care for my controlled Diabetes and they switched me to a drug just as expensive. My last office visit which is quarterly for my Diabetes they paid less than my copay to the Doctor. I paid $70.00 for my Copay. My last job I had Blue Cross/ Blue Shield and my copay was $15.00. I will tell everyone how worthless they are.

Poor customer service, lack of transparency
I have had extremely frustrating experiences with Surest. I've had a lot of issues receiving reimbursement through my HRA and mainly due to customer service not knowing where to direct me. I end up on calls where I am passed from one department to another and do not receive answers. This is very time consuming and to the point where I am avoiding using my insurance- which is not okay. Apart from this, I recently had an experience where I was sent to an alternate location for imaging without being told that the price different between locations would be $400. It was for the same service and same company, just down the street. Overall, I am not a fan and do not recommend this insurance until customer service and transparency about services can be improved.
Run.
The absolute worst customer experince I have ever had. 8 back and forths between them and my hospital. From the lack of follow up, to negligence or straight lying directly to me about basic details and critical information, I'm on the verge of legal action at this point.
You guys are THIEVES
You guys are THIEVES. I CHECK EVERYTHING ON the website first (whats covered)since your insurance is sooo pitiful and website lies. I have had NUMEROUS routine visits/procedures that say the copay is one thing then when I get the bill it's always exponentially higher. Then I call for help but your work from home people you hire have no skills, can't figure anything out or just lie to me again. One time they told me a procedure was covered, but it has a $1000 copay. WELL THAT MEANS ITS NOT COVERED! DONT you dare tell people something is covered to shut them up, only for them to receive a bill for $1000!!!!! This is complete garbage, You have NO decency or ethics. This isn't right!
