I had generally positive experiences with SoundBetter previously, but my most recent project exposed what I believe is a lack of transparency in the review process.

The project concluded with a negotiated partial refund. Once the refund was accepted and the job closed, I was not given any opportunity to leave a review of my experience. On a previous completed project, I received repeated prompts to leave a review, so the difference in process was noticeable.

I contacted support to ask whether clients can review projects that end in a refund, but I have not yet received an explanation. Until the review policy is made clearer, I believe clients cannot easily determine whether provider ratings reflect all completed projects or only those that follow the standard completion process.

The refund itself was handled correctly, but greater transparency around the review system would improve confidence for both clients and providers.

This was my first experience as a service provider on SoundBetter, and unfortunately, it has been extremely disappointing.

I've been working on freelance platforms since 2018, so I'm familiar with how these systems usually operate. I decided to give SoundBetter a try because of its reputation in the music industry. However, as soon as the buyer marked the project as completed, my payment was returned for a reason that was never clearly explained to me.

What followed was days of frustration. I spent hours contacting PayPal, Hyperwallet, and SoundBetter support trying to figure out what went wrong. PayPal told me to contact Hyperwallet. Hyperwallet told me they couldn't access SoundBetter accounts and that I needed to contact SoundBetter. Meanwhile, SoundBetter support was extremely slow to respond and provided little to no useful information.

To eliminate any possible issues on my side, I even upgraded my PayPal account to a Business account to ensure it could receive commercial payments. Despite doing everything I was asked to do, I then spent more than four days chasing SoundBetter support just to have my payment resent manually.

The most frustrating part wasn't the payment issue itself, it was the lack of communication, transparency, and urgency. Emails went unanswered for long periods, phone support was unavailable, and I was left completely in the dark regarding the status of my money.

For a platform that strongly encourages users to keep transactions within its ecosystem, the payment experience and support quality were far below what I expected from a professional marketplace.

I sincerely hope SoundBetter improves its payment processes and customer support, because no freelancer should have to spend days chasing their hard-earned money after successfully completing a project.

This is a great platform for musicians to connect with clients from around the world. Every interaction I've had with a client on Soundbetter has been very well controlled and focused on work. It really is a well curated environment for professional musicians

Navigating the current industry landscape has felt increasingly difficult. With the rapid rise of AI, finding genuine, human-driven music production jobs is harder than ever. We are one of the last surviving industries that fundamentally requires a real human touch, and SoundBetter has been a vital platform to help bridge that gap between creators and clients.

However, actually securing a job on the platform presents an entirely different challenge. While the platform itself is solid, getting access to work can feel like hitting a bottleneck. The job board is heavily restricted, making it extremely difficult for seasoned professionals to even apply for listings unless they are explicitly invited or navigate a very tight premium bottleneck.

I genuinely hope SoundBetter finds a solution to open up more professional spots on the platform so that proven musicians and producers have a fair chance to apply for gig listings. It is a fantastic concept and a necessary refuge for real musicians right now, but the job acquisition process needs to be more accessible for the professionals who keep the industry alive.
