Only call if you have money to burn
I wish I had searched this site before contacting this company. I have had a similar experience to many others. I messaged them to ask for a quote for a replacement lock. They phoned within minutes to say they had a locksmith available in the area at that moment and that he would do the job for £90 + VAT. A reputable local company had quoted £180 including labour and VAT which I thought was a bit high but am now wishing I had accepted.
The locksmith arrived within the hour. He immediately said that the work would cost £350 because the "lock was old".I declined and he first began talking about "cancellation fees" but then decided that he could modify an existing lock in his possession and fit it for £150.I allowed him to do this . The "modification" and fitting took about 15 minutes, then he gave me an invoice for £150 but adding £50 labour and £40 VAT making a total of £240.He insisted I sign the invoice and disappeared.I later found that the small print on the invoice contained words to the effect that all charges had been explained in advance and that I had given permission to proceed in this knowledge.
I am still puzzled by the fact that I paid this bill but made an unfortunate assumption that it was my fault for not getting him to comprehensively set out his charges in advance when of course the fault was his.I did attempt to complain but got nowhere. It seems from other comments on Trust Pilot that this company "Sam Locksmith" does not employ locksmiths directly but operates in many different parts of the country as a conduit for local rogue
traders. In this case the traders were "Lock Serv Ltd" who are based in Maidenhead but who also have recent reviews citing overcharging following bogus initial estimates.
