I recently attended a gym induction with Harry and it was a really positive experience. He was knowledgeable, he graded the exercises to my strength and ability levels and took time to understand my particular injuries or concerns. He was very encouraging and supportive and made the gym feel like an accessible space that I would be happy to use again.

A pleasant gym with good facilities including good sized swimming pools and a sauna. I have been using the gym for some time now. Equipment has been upgraded recently. Staff are friendly and there is also a onsite nursery. There is a pleasant area to relax in downstairs with food and drink available. There is also plenty of parking in addition to being located next to a convenient bus stop on the A2.

Unfortunately, this people have no clue what customer service is. Basically stole my money.
I bought a day entry for me and my boyfriend each worth £25 in January, however for personal reasons could not attend. Gave them a call today and got told in very rude way that they can not do anything, because we did not attend on the day and did not let them know. Its one day gym entry, basically the last place a I would call to let know that we won't be able to "attend". Never seen something like this before and the communication, especially from the manager on duty, absolutely shocking.

I have been a ROKO member for years having tried other gyms from time to time but I always return to ROKO.
Great value for money and courteous helpful staff.Fab classes and other members always courteous and considerate.

I started at Roko back in January of 2024 having not been in the gym for over 6 months. I had my induction with Jenny and she was AMAZING. She had a long talk with me to understand my goals for the gym, my motivations and how often I planned to attend. Not only did she talk to me about the gym side of things but she helped to give me an understanding of the nutrition and the importance of nutrition alongside a good workout routine. Having my initial induction with Jenny was so helpful to make the gym feel less intimidating and in the 10 weeks I’ve been going so far I’ve felt supported every step of the way. Whenever I see Jenny she is so friendly and always checking in on how I’m doing. Follow ups with her are always so valuable to me in ensuring I continue to progress on my fitness journey. I have seen SUCH amazing progress since starting at Roko and following the plan provided by Jenny and I can’t wait to see the future progress I will make. To anyone who is nervous about the gym or just looking for more guidance I would 1000% recommend asking for Jenny.

Roko is a big part of my life now. I basically live there. I do a combination of classes and weights in the gym floor. In terms of choices of machines it's not great and could be better but classes are fantastic especially Mark's one such Zumba,LBT ,pilates and over 50's are absolutely brilliant 👏. He is amazing instructor and he can move oh yeah he can. Its a pleasure to watch him dance. So definitely recommend it !!!

In a marketplace in which gyms and health clubs are now proliferating, ROKO is now an outdated anachronism.
Since its inception, the ROKO business model has relied upon fleecing its customers via a contract which skirts the boundaries of legality.
The cornerstone of the ROKO business model is straightforward. Only 18% of people with gym membership actually attend gyms consistently, according to industry information.
In other words, the Roko business model relies on not delivering a service to 82% of those making payment.
The dice is even more firmly weighted in ROKO's favour at the expense of its membership by the contract members are required to commit to.
ROKO believe it is not in its commercial interests to commit their membership to fixed term contracts, the universal norm for almost all other service businesses.
ROKO also wants its membership to make payment solely via direct debit so that monthly subscriptions become part of the taken-for-granted, slipping into the background of other household bills.
Not surprisingly, cancellation, is also firmly stacked in ROKO's favour too. For two people, the cancellation period of three months, will cost £278 for an off-peak agreement - Cancelling other contracts will cost very much more.
Furthermore, as I write - the seventeenth day of the final month of my cancellation period, ROKO has just written to me to tell me they are seeking a furthr £40 "administration" fee. I have paid £77.90 for my final month for membership for two. ROKO may wish to consider whether it is in their commercial interests to pursue me for a trumped-up additional fee alongside all the other bad (no)customer service practices ROKO is a party to?
And the primary reason I initially decided to end our two person membership?
My friend, for whom I am also paying membership, has a sore and arthritic hip.
She would dearly like to make use of gym facilities to maintain mobiility in the joint. Our membership only allows attendance prior to 8.30am and at other off-peak times. My friend is now finding it increasingly difficult to be ready for a gym session at this time of the day, although she believes it would be beneficial to her condition.
It was only after I made enquiries in January '24, faced with the circumstances I have described, that I discovered, what I believe to be the malign intent of ROKO.
Of course, the marketplace will ultimately decide whether there is any place for ROKO to milk maximum profitability from every member.
Certainly Puregym, less than half a mile from ROKO Cliftom Moor York, offering membership from £16.99.

Can be expected to hold strong appeal by comparison with ROKO's grab the money and run approach to its membership

Predictably it is long on waffle and sparse on substance.
Indeed, ROKO do not take issue with any of the facts I offer
Put simply, I repeat my assertion...
ROKO seeks to sign its members into a (barely legal) contract) with no end date and a termination fee of £278 - for our membership.
Choose any other gym in preferance to ROKO's grab-the-money-and-run offering!

Harry was amazing at induction and made me feel really comfortable and confident in the gym. It’s really great to come in and see a friendly face who always says Hi!

My daughter has swimming lessons with Elaine,my daughter has cerebral palsy and Elaine has been amazing and encouraging from day one,with one to one lessons for a period of time and now in a group lesson which she loves now swimming 15 metres it really has been an amazing journey,thank you so much Elaine and to Roko fab swimming pool facilities.

As a sedentary, 58-year-old lady, I was apprehensive and lacked confidence at my induction, but Jenny was friendly, welcoming and made me feel at ease straight away. She explained everything in detail to me and was both motivating and inspiring! I can't wait to return! 💯💪

The classes are exceptional- Taylor, Dean Jenny & Cara are very knowledgable and really put us through our paces.
Of course, the big boss Sarah is always a pleasure to deal with.

I’ve been with Roko for about 18 months and joined to become fitter and healthier. I have tried various classes with Jenny, Cara, Dean and Laura and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The staff in general are always pleasant and happy to help.
I currently have PT with Jenny and find the sessions engaging and always tailored to my needs. She has helped me to change my mindset completely which has enabled me to become fitter and healthier.

The most friendly staff and lovely team. Make you feel really supported. If you’re a first time gym goer it is the perfect place they are so amazing and giving you tips and tricks if needed! Facilities are wonderful absolutely love!

Been a member of Roko for many years. Loving the classes in particular Rok-X, Tabata and Bootcamp, would like to see more ‘Sweat’ classes throughout the week (evenings preferably)
Great coaches, Jen, Dean, Taylor and big high five to Laura who’s encouraging, motivating and always happy to offer advice.
If I could ask for one thing it’d be for other members to not continually talk throughout the classes, it’s disruptive and shows a lack of respect for the coach 🤷🏼‍♀️

Great place. The reception staff are always friendly and welcoming. Steve and Dave keep the male locker room clean and tidy and I know my wife has said the same about the ladies. The equipment is first class , but the classes top that. Special thanks to Laura and Dean who really test you with very interesting and taxing sessions. Keep it up.

I’ve been a member at Roko for many years and have always been impressed with the range of classes and equipment.

I’m currently doing PT with Jenny and it has been a great experience - she is motivating and pushes me hard but also recognises when a different approach is needed. I have had a couple of self-inflicted injuries and have been impressed with how she has adapted the workouts to deal with my limitations and assist my recovery.
