Well organised trip with good locations

I've recently booked yet another adventure with the excellent Rickshaw Travel for me and my wife, this time it's a trip to Brazil for next year. Having told the excellent Hannah of Rickshaw the type of experience we wanted in Brazil, she expertly crafted a custom itinerary for us, and with patience and kindness she incorporated one or two amendments that we requested while absolutely achieving the maximum 'bang for our buck' for us. It's always a pleasure working with Rickshaw's staff, and Hannah is no exception. Great, kind, respectful customer service, with Rickshaw genuinely working with the customer to achieve the customer's desired 'bucket list' outcome at a highly competitive price. Can't say fairer than that!

Just returned from 3 weeks in Belize organised by Hannah. Altered holiday itinerary last moment as we decided not to include Guatemala due to some local issues. Daisy came up trumps making many amendments in very short period she was excellent. Belize fabulous, great beaches, amazing scenery and Mayan ruins. People so friendly. Local land agents were superb and nothing too much trouble when we changed timings. Second time using Rickshaw, would recommend.

We had a wonderful holiday to Sri Lanka visiting the cultural triangle. The hotels were top notch and our driver Janak was amazing. Would definitely highly recommend.

Hannah from Rickshaw organised a 17 day trip to Guatemala, Belize and Mexico at very short notice. Hannah had excellent knowledge of the area having travelled there before and she adjusted the itinerary to suit. Excellent service and the hotels booked were in good central locations. Highly recommend and great reassurance with local contact in the area. Will definitely use again. Thank you Hannah for your patience as well!

We have recently returned home after a trip to South India. It was an amazing trip which consisted of three bite-size trips put together by Emma.
Everything ran smoothly and we couldn’t have wished for better service from the ground handler Travel XS. Ms Gayathri was available throughout our whole time in India and was able to offer advice and tweak our itinerary as necessary.
We thoroughly recommend Rickshaw Travel and will definitely be using them to book future holidays.

We have been back a week now and I am still bouncing around like an excited child shouting from the roofs tops about how amazing our trip was.

From start to finish the package you put together was seamless, fun and insightful. Each hotel Rickshaw selected for us was friendly and comfortable and the locations of the hotels were spot on for us.... walking distance to ALL the fun!!

Our itinerary from Rickshaw was jam packed each day with tours and travelling through Vietnam, with a welcomed balance of private downtime. We met some amazing and educated tour guides, some lovely local people and saw beautiful scenery.

I feel the level of hotels, tours and activities were perfect for our demographic and our Rickshaw agent most definitely delivered on our brief. This is not the first time we have used Rickshaw and we will most defiantly use Rickshaw again for future travel plans.

We had a very complicated package of experiences to coordinate on our recent trip to Argentina and it all went perfectly. Rickshaw helped us plan and organise the trip. Any minor issues were dealt with promptly by the team, and we felt very confident that, as older travellers, we had support behind us at all times . We had the trip of a lifetime at very good value.

Just returned from a wonderful two week holiday in Sri Lanka organised by David. Thank you so much for listening to what we wanted and making it happen, we stayed in some different, all wonderful types of accommodation - glamping, home stay, smaller hotels, which made the holiday very special (other agents said our requests weren’t possible as we wanted less touristy areas and smaller places to stay). Everyone was so lovely in Sri Lanka and we saw some great wildlife and ate the most tasty food. Our driver was amazing too -

I've never used a company to arrange a trip before - always done it all myself. But going to Cuba there were a few issues which I thought might be more difficult (lack of reliable internet, random changes in bus timetables, etc.). Rickshaw have organised the whole thing including homestays, shared transfers and even a few mini-tours at a lower cost and much less stress than I would have managed myself, so I'm really delighted and very excited for this adventure!

An amazing experience in Cuba! Huge thanks to Ceri for designing an itinerary that was exactly what I was looking for, thoughtful, well-paced, and flawlessly organized. The coordination with the local partners was excellent, and their kindness, availability, and professionalism really stood out, while still keeping everything fun and relaxed. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would absolutely recommend this to anyone planning a trip to Cuba.

Not good. The core problem was a consistent lack of local knowledge and poor advice from a company that positions itself as a specialist.

I know Thailand well and was very clear about what I wanted: Bangkok, an overnight train to Chiang Mai, an elephant sanctuary, a genuine rainforest trek north of Chiang Mai in the Golden Triangle with a hill-tribe overnight stay, rafting through dense jungle, and then a final week at a beach resort in the south.

Issues emerged immediately. Rickshaw told me elephant sanctuaries no longer allow interaction with elephants, which simply isn’t true. I found Pon Elephant myself and asked Rickshaw to change the booking. It was exceptional and included hands-on elephant care and a Thai cooking course. This is exactly the kind of local insight Rickshaw should have provided proactively; it shouldn’t be the customer’s job to correct the agent.

The same pattern repeated with the beach destination. Rickshaw recommended Koh Samui in December, despite the east coast being notoriously wet at that time of year. A close friend who has lived there for 25 years advised strongly against it, advice that proved correct as Samui experienced flooding during our intended stay. We switched to Krabi on the west coast, where the weather was perfect—again, guidance Rickshaw should have given.

When we asked Rickshaw to rework the Krabi accommodation, they proposed something closer to a backpackers’ hostel and claimed everything else was booked unless we raised our budget significantly. We found and booked an excellent hotel ourselves, on the same budget. It turned out to be the best hotel of the entire trip—and the only one Rickshaw didn’t arrange—leaving me questioning what value they were actually adding.

The biggest disappointment was the trek. Our guide, Jo, was excellent, but the experience itself was completely wrong. Instead of heading north into the Golden Triangle rainforest near the Myanmar border, we drove an hour south of Chiang Mai into largely agricultural land. Much of the walk followed concrete paths through rice paddies, farmland and villages, with irrigation pipes and fencing everywhere. This bore no resemblance to the rainforest trek we had requested or that I had experienced before.

We were meant to stay overnight with the Karen tribe, yet by 2pm on day one we arrived at an empty lodge with no one else present. We were told we would leave at 9am the next morning, resulting in nineteen hours with nothing to do and no interaction with any local community. What was sold as a two-day trek was really a one-day walk stretched over two days with a long, pointless pause in the middle.

The rafting was the final let-down. Instead of rafting through dense rainforest, we floated for twenty minutes on a flimsy bamboo raft down a dirty, developed stream lined with plastic rubbish and buildings. It could not have been further from what we had asked for.

This wasn’t one bad hotel or one poor activity. It was a systemic issue: weak advice, poor local expertise and an apparent box-ticking approach. Time and again, it fell to the customer to identify mistakes and make better arrangements independently. Because I know Thailand well, I was able to correct many of these issues—but I would have no confidence using Rickshaw for a country I didn’t know.

Regrettably, I won’t be using them again.

Booked our Vietnam trip recently. Annabelle was really great, we had left the booking quite late but she managed to work all our requested places and experiences into our schedule. She gave us good advice, always responded quickly to my emails and phone calls, and put together an excellent trip.

Great holiday. Learnt loads, saw and did so much. The Rickshaw team seem to find new experiences every time we visit India.
This visit was a bit off the tourist trail visiting rural communities, staying in Palaces and a camel safari in the desert! Great fun.
PS. We’re both over 66, so it’s never too late to try something new.

Chose Rickshaw to arrange our 10 day trip to Costa Rica over Christmas and did not regret it. From my initial enquiry they were quick to respond, and with an itinerary to meet our brief and prices very reasonable and competitive. Steve was extremely personable, helpful and professional and nothing was too much trouble when we requested a few tweaks and additions to the itinerary. He is an absolute credit to the company. The holiday itself was amazing and everything ran smoothly and in line with the day by day plan. 100% recommend Rickshaw Travel.

I can't thank Rickshaw Travel enough for organising and making my solo trip to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia backpacking such a huge success. It was great talking to an Agent with experience in the areas travelled and any queries or questions I had were met with total professionalism and knowledge. The local Agents they use are equally as good, always providing a smile along the way.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Rickshaw and am possibly looking to use their services again in the very near future.

We have just returned from a month's holiday in Chile, Argentina and ending at Iguazu Falls. Our bucket list holiday was fantastic. Excellently organised by Ceri and the Rickshaw team in the UK and by Shirley and her South American tour operators whilst on holiday.
Everything worked just like the itinerary said it would! Rickshaw guided us into creating a holiday that was just what we wanted. They listened to our needs and requests; made suggestions from personal knowledge and experience on what we could see and do; was always aware of our budget and made it clear in their pricing; answered all our questions and gave us reassurance at every step in the booking/planning process. They booked everything we needed. We so enjoyed having the freedom to have a holiday designed for us and not have to follow a set tour. Rickshaws’ small packages of itineraries work really well and enable you to have a bespoke holiday. We had a range of hotels, all very clean and in good locations. All pick up’s were on time even the one’s at 4.00 and 5am!! The guides on the excursions spoke excellent English and were very informative and supportive. Travelling with Rickshaw gives you the independence to explore on your own, with small groups when you want to, but the knowledge that you are being very well looked after.

We had a look at Rickshaw Travel’s website (via a friends recommendation) to plan our holiday to Mexico. The site provided a number of short tourist excursions to recommended sites and locations.
Hannah was assigned to us as their Mexico expert. We mentioned a couple of excursions and our budget.
Hannah planned our flights, accomodation and transfers. We stayed in Playa del Carmen to unwind from the long flight, then a coach to our boutique hotel in Mérida, with its amazing architecture and history. (and to co-incide with the Day of the Dead)
We then picked up our transfer to the accommodation adjacent to Chitzen Itzá. We were given great advice to visit the site early (8:00am) to avoid the crowds and the heat.
Our transfer collected us and took us to Chiquila, where we took the ferry to Holbox. Amazing beaches, birds, bars and restaurants plus very few vehicles on sandy roads. A boat trip to the 3 isles was provided which took us to Isla Pajeros where we admired protected birds in their natural habitat. We were also taken to Isla Pasion where we saw pink flamingos!!
Another private transfer back to Playa del Carmen for the ferry to Cozumel for the last 6 days. The ecological park where Laguna Chunchaca containing crocodiles near the Faro Celarain lighthouse is a must. A boat trip to El Cielo to snorkel in turquoise waters, swim with rays and turtles was also provided.
Finally a private transfer back to Cancun airport completed our memorable holiday.
Solana Tours were the brilliant local travel partners who provided a welcome meeting, a local SIM card, 24/7 WhatsApp support (which was invaluable) and the local transfers.
All the transfers and accommodations provided were great!!
