Terrible After-sales Suppor

Purchase experience was hassle-free, however aftersales support has been shocking. Several faults with the vehicle discovered just the next day still haven't been repaired more than a month later.
They have also refused to repair damage to the dash because their inspection photos were "too blurry" to see if the fault was there at time of purchase.
Frequently my emails are replied to by a different person asking for information i have already sent, or providing conflicting information.
I have had nothing but delays and denials.
It has gotten to the point of needing to threaten legal action, and I still haven't had the car repaired.
I would not reccomend them to anyone, caveat emptor.

Very disappointing experience with…

Very disappointing experience with Powerlease.

I was interested in purchasing a vehicle from Powerlease and agreed a purchase price. I was asked by their team to complete the finance application forms, which I did, and I was also advised to arrange my insurance before coming down to collect the vehicle on the agreed collection date. I followed their instructions and arranged the insurance in preparation for collecting the vehicle.

During my discussions with Powerlease, I also offered to put down a £99 deposit to reserve the vehicle. I was advised that there was no need to do this, so I proceeded based on the understanding that the arrangements for collection were moving forward.

However, on the day I was due to collect the vehicle, while I was about to leave and drive to their premises, I received a call from Powerlease informing me that another customer was coming to view the vehicle before me. I was told that they would let me know what happened if that customer decided to purchase the vehicle.

I found this extremely disappointing. After completing the finance process, arranging insurance, and making plans based on the agreed collection appointment, I felt that I was treated as a second option rather than as a customer who had already made significant preparations to proceed.

I understand Powerlease’s position that no final contract had been completed. However, my complaint has always been about the way the situation was handled and the lack of clear communication. If I had been made aware from the beginning that another customer could be given priority before my agreed appointment, I would have made a different decision regarding the time and costs I committed.

I raised my concerns directly with Powerlease, but despite several emails, their final response did not acknowledge the inconvenience caused or the costs I incurred as a result of preparing for the collection.

My advice to anyone considering purchasing a vehicle from Powerlease is to ensure that the vehicle is formally secured in writing before completing finance checks, arranging insurance, or making plans to travel.

This version also subtly highlights the inconsistency in their response: they say they don't accept you offered £99, but you are clearly recording your position without making an unsupported allegation. That makes the review more defensible.

We are sorry that you remain disappointed with your experience.

For the benefit of anyone reading this review, we would like to clarify a number of important points.

You expressed an interest in purchasing the vehicle and requested that we arrange a finance application, which was subsequently approved. However, once approved, you advised that you wished to inspect the vehicle before committing to purchase it. That was entirely your choice, and we fully respected your decision by arranging a viewing appointment.

Powerlease does not operate a vehicle reservation or holding system. Vehicles remain available for sale until a customer has committed to purchasing them. As no purchase had been completed, the vehicle remained available to other prospective buyers on a first come, first served basis.

When another customer expressed an interest in the vehicle, we contacted you as a courtesy to keep you informed. We did not tell you that the vehicle had been sold. In fact, we subsequently contacted you again to confirm that the other customer had not purchased the vehicle, that it remained available, and rearranged your appointment for later that day. Unfortunately, you did not attend that appointment, and the vehicle remains available for sale today.

We would also like to clarify that we did not instruct you to arrange insurance before purchasing the vehicle. We simply advised that valid insurance would be required if you chose to purchase the vehicle and drive it away, as we do not provide drive-away insurance.

We always endeavour to keep customers informed throughout the buying process, and on this occasion we believe that contacting you to advise of another interested party was the honest and transparent approach. We wish you all the best in your search for a suitable vehicle.

Very happy.

Bought my car through Oliver in Sales who was great, knowledgeable and helpful regarding the finance options. Had a few things it had to come back to their workshop for after collection but it was organised quickly and sorted within the day. Overall, very happy with my car and glad I found a decent and trustworthy place to buy a car from.

I had a disappointing experience with…

I had a disappointing experience with Power Lease. When I purchased the car, it came equipped with Michelin Pilot tires, which I was really happy about. However, when I went to pick up the car, they had replaced the tires with cheap Chinese ones. When I asked them why the tires were changed, they told me it was for my safety. I felt misled and disappointed by the sudden downgrade in quality.

Great experience purchasing my Tesla from Powerlease - Super Happy Customer

I purchased a 2022 Tesla Model Y RWD from Powerlease in May and have been extremely happy with both the car and the service I received.

I bought the car sight unseen, so I had plenty of questions beforehand. Tom was always patient, helpful, and happy to answer everything I asked. It's clear that Powerlease knows Teslas very well and is a genuine EV specialist.

When I arrived to collect the car, everything was ready to go. Tom didn't keep me waiting, took me out on a test drive, and gave me as much time as I wanted to inspect the car properly. The whole experience was professional from start to finish.

The car itself was even better than I expected. It had been thoroughly detailed, the interior looked almost new, and the exterior was spotless. As it's a 2022 Tesla and the paint quality isn't always perfect, there were a few minor marks here and there, but nothing that wouldn't be expected for a car of that age. They had also changed the cabin filters, which was a nice surprise.

Buying a car unseen always comes with a bit of uncertainty, but I was reassured that if the car wasn't up to my standard, I could walk away from the deal. Thankfully, there was no need for that as I was genuinely delighted with both the car and the overall experience.

I know this review probably sounds like a bit of an advert for Powerlease, but I'm simply a customer with no affiliation to the company. Based on my experience, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again. A big thank you to Tom and Craig for making such an important purchase such a positive experience.

RIDICULOUS PART EXCHANGE VALUATION

Not happy. Was Offered £1000 less than “we buy any car” for part exchange. Also wanted a £500 non refundable deposit to reserve the car and then full payment to be received within 48hours. I hadn’t even seen the car as it was 3 hours drive away & wouldn’t be ready for a week?? Why not take a deposit and then remainder on view/collection??

Overall quite disappointed

Overall quite disappointed.

Long story short, I bought Tesla Model 3 end of last year. Everything was fine until I started to noticing some flaws. First thing I noticed was the material from the steering wheel starting to unglue - apparently a common issue but Tesla told me the car is out of their limited warranty so they will not fix it. Called Powerlease but the only help I received was a quote from them to fix it (sad joke as the car was still under their 3-month warranty).

Next just out of curiosity I checked how the pollen filter looks like just in case nobody even checked it. To my disappointment that was true, it was old and mouldy, never replaced. Powerlease is stating they are checking the car fully, replace what need to be replaced etc. well not really.

The worst I noticed recently (4-5 months since I bought the car). The underside of the boot lid edge is totally corroded. I have checked with Tesla and they told me this is something they've seen before on Model 3 but will not do anything as the car is out of warranty. Called Powerlease and the same story again, their help is to quote me to fix it. Really!? I was trying to explain it's a hidden flaw and it was impossible to me to noticed it before as it's located in not obvious place. Now the paintwork is chipping off so I can see it clear. Everyone knows the rust needs time to develop to that size, it was there when I bough it unfortunately I couldn't notice it straight away. Now after their useless 3-months warranty is off they are saying it probably happened now and they will not do anything about it., well unless I pay them to fix it!

In summary, I am not sure how is it possible these people have a number of positive reviews. My experience is exactly the opposite. Maybe I have bad luck but still, paying that amount of money for as they stated verified and checked car is a waste. I could buy the same for a few thousands less and probably having to deal with the same common issues on my own, the difference is I would use this money to rectify it rather than paying more for guarantees that exist only on paper. Seem like the customer service is only there to copy and paste the same overly positive information while at the end you have to pay for the issues they never checked.

I could provide more information for interested party, this is a real review from a real person. The purpose of it is to tell the others what they could experience buying car in this place.

Antwort von Powerlease

We are sorry to hear that the customer feels disappointed with their purchase, however we do feel it is important to provide some context and clarify the situation.

The vehicle purchased was not a new car. It is a nearly 5-year-old used Tesla Model 3 with approximately 60,000 miles at the point of sale. As with any used vehicle of this age and mileage, some cosmetic wear and age-related deterioration is to be expected. The vehicle was inspected, test driven, and sold in good used condition, and the customer was given the opportunity to inspect the car themselves before purchase.

Our standard 3 months warranty covers mechanical components only. Cosmetic items and bodywork are sold as seen, which is standard practice within the used car industry. This was clearly explained to the customer during our correspondence.

Despite this, we still attempted to assist as a gesture of goodwill on multiple occasions, including offering discounted repair assistance at trade cost. These offers were rejected.

The corrosion concern raised relates to an area that only became apparent several months after purchase. Tesla themselves declined to repair the issue under their own bodywork warranty policy. While we appreciate the customer’s frustration, it is not reasonable to expect a used car retailer to retrospectively cover cosmetic or age-related issues on a vehicle of this age over eight months after delivery.

The same applies to the steering wheel wear and pollen filter comments. Wear to interior trim is not uncommon on a used vehicle with this mileage, and consumable service items such as cabin filters naturally require replacement over time depending on use and ownership history. All our vehicles are fully checked over as part of our pre delivery inspection and we ensure all our vehicles are safe and roadworthy. Pollen filters are not replaced as part of this standard preparation.

We always aim to provide good customer service and fair support where possible, which is why we attempted to help even outside of our obligations. Unfortunately, in this case, we believe the customer’s expectations are more aligned with those of purchasing a brand-new vehicle rather than a used car approaching five years old.

We remain satisfied that the vehicle was accurately described, fairly priced (we offer some of the lowest prices like for like in the UK), and supplied in line with the standards expected for a used vehicle of its age and mileage.

Called and asked about one of the cars. They said they specialise in electric vehicles, but when I requested a battery health check, it was immediately rejected—they said they don’t do battery health checks for small batteries. Great specialists, so funny🙂

We recently purchased a car from…

We recently purchased a car from Powerlease Ampthill and were very impressed with Oliver’s service. He was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful throughout the whole process. Communication was clear, and the purchase itself was smooth.

However, we were disappointed at the point of collection. The car’s original, roadworthy tyres had been replaced with brand‑new but cheaper, non‑matching tyres without any prior notice. We were told this was due to them being “not legal”, which did not match our impression when we viewed the car. For a £21,000 vehicle, we expected full transparency and no last‑minute surprises.

Additionally, the car mats that were in the boot during the viewing were missing at collection and were only provided after we asked, with the explanation that they had been washed and not put back.

We are not seeking compensation, but we hope this feedback helps improve the experience for future customers, as the final stage of the process did not match the otherwise excellent service we received from Oliver.

Further to your review, we are sorry to hear that you remain dissatisfied and appreciate the opportunity to clarify the situation for transparency.

When you initially visited our dealership, you viewed a selection of vehicles and did not commit to purchasing a specific car at that time. The vehicle in question was subsequently prepared for sale in line with our standard safety procedures. During this preparation process, the original tyres were identified as not meeting our required safety standards and were replaced prior to the sale.

At the point of purchase and collection, you raised concerns regarding the tyres. We explained the reason for the replacement and, as a gesture of goodwill, offered the option to cancel the purchase and receive a full refund. You chose to proceed with the purchase of the vehicle.

With regard to the car mats, we understand there was some confusion at handover, and these were provided once the issue was raised. They had simply been removed for cleaning.

We are always committed to transparency and customer satisfaction, and we regret that your experience did not fully meet your expectations on this occasion.

We also note that, despite you claiming in your review, that you were not seeking compensation, a complaint was raised through the finance provider has since been fully reviewed and not upheld. We trust this provides further clarity on the matter.

We value all feedback and will continue to use it to improve our customer experience going forward.

Absolutely superb experience

Absolutely superb experience with Powerlease. Tom was supportive and very patient, regularly checking in to make sure I was fully informed. I’ve purchased my vehicle without actually visiting the forecourt but with great photos, description and with Tom on hand it’s been the best experience I have had with a dealer (and I’m in love with my new car). Thank you to everyone at Powerlease.

EV MOTOR FAILURE - £6,000 REPAIR BILL

I STRONGLY ADVISE AVOIDING POWERLEASE.

Powerlease sold me a £28,000 Audi EV and its electric motor failed less than 3 months later, after just 2,500 miles of careful driving. Their first response was to tell me to bring the car back so they can "determine liability" - not a great start.

I objected, as I live 400 miles away and the car can't be driven. Powerlease didn't offer to pay for the car to be transported, or for a diagnosis from my local Audi garage.

They did remark on the fact that I hadn't purchased their warranty - but as we all know, a warranty doesn't trump your statutory rights. I repeatedly asserted my rights to a repair under the Consumer Rights Act, which is very clear. The Act states that repairs must be undertaken without unreasonable inconvenience or cost to the consumer. Powerlease still failed to provide a remedy.

After I spent months seeking legal advice and obtaining a detailed fault diagnosis - at my own cost - Powerlease eventually sent an "independent" inspector to examine the car. Powerlease's "independent" report - which took them months to send to me - named the fault as "sudden electrical failure". Powerlease claims the "suddenness" absolves them of any responsibility. I obviously strongly disagree, and I believe the law clearly supports my position.

Trading Standards advice explains that defects which cause latent faults (faults which don't appear until some time after purchase) are still legally presumed to have been present at the time of sale. The findings of Powerlease's "independent" inspection does not trump that legal provision.

The Consumer Rights Act also requires goods to be "of satisfactory quality" and "fit for purpose", and this includes durability. A £28K luxury car - 4 years old and with just 40K miles - which suffers a serious motor fault after less than 3 months would categorically NOT be considered satisfactory, fit for purpose, or durable.

I cannot believe that any reasonable person would ever consider Powerlease's position on this matter to be acceptable. In fact, Trading Standards' advice for merchants states: "You should consider the issue from a consumer’s point of view – would you be happy with the goods if you had bought them?" I would be very interested to hear Powerlease's answer to that question.

Most recently, Powerlease had a legal agency send me a letter in an attempt to discourage further communication on the matter. Is this the behaviour of a company which supports its customers?

I've now been unable to use the car for 8 months and am faced with a £6K repair bill. I have been forced to repeatedly seek legal counsel and pay hundreds of pounds for transport and diagnostic fees out of my own pocket. The situation has caused me significant stress, particularly as I already suffer from severe health conditions.

If you're considering buying a car from Powerlease, I suggest asking them: "If this car develops a major fault less than 3 months from now, will you fix it in accordance with my statutory rights?" I expect most people would assume the answer must be "yes". Why, then, has Powerlease made it clear to me that their answer is "no"?

I have no choice but to pursue legal action through the courts and will also be reporting Powerlease to Trading Standards.

Problem after problem

Sold me an absolute shitter of a car, problem after problems with the battery. It was under warranty with the manufacturer. But it took so many months to get my car into the manufacturer (battery shortage). I finally got it fixed about a year later (it really took the manufacturer that long) then the battery issue occurred again and again. I'm constantly going back and forth with Jaguar about this and that's when they told me, look, this car is unsuitable and you need to speak to the seller and financer.

I contacted power lease about my issues after a while (mainly because I thought if a car is under manufacturer warranty, I should contact them) to which they replied, not their problem from their solicitors.

Avoid these crooks.

This review is highly misleading and leaves out key facts.

The vehicle was purchased around three years ago and driven for nearly 20,000 miles before we were contacted around two years after purchase. During that entire period, no faults or concerns were reported to us.

Despite this, the customer demanded a full refund, which is entirely unreasonable given the length of ownership and mileage covered. The demand also contained many inaccuracies. The matter was therefore reviewed by legal advisers, who responded accordingly.

The issues raised relate to the manufacturer (Jaguar) and it feels like your actual issue lays with them more than us. These are wear-and-tear matters commonly associated with this make and model of this age and mileage. The vehicle was sold in good working condition with no faults at the time of sale.

We categorically reject the allegations made. Responsibility cannot be retrospectively shifted years after purchase and extensive use.

Sold me a complete lemon (buy at your own risk)

Edit since below response:
Very easy to claim that my review is untrue but for anyone reading this review, simply do a MOT check on gov website for SK20ZSW and you will see the mileage and dates between MOTs. Don’t trust the dodgy MOTs this company does or the “visual checks”, the car had literally just covered the miles back to London and I got it checked at Halfords MOT. They did not just “repair shocks under warranty after reporting a knock”. I called them from the MOT center after collecting the car and telling them the car failed and immediately they denied everything until I threatened with legal action and that led to escalation to their manager.

My advice to anyone reading this, do your own MOT after collecting car and if it fails, like it did for mine, reject the car immediately, do not risk it. Like I said, I got the car checked at Tesla and the technicians confirmed that no suspension parts had been changed as claimed by PowerLease, all lies.

Original review: Here's my honest review after purchasing a tesla model 3 from them. The bad service started from the start and in hindsight, all the signs were there not to purchase from them. Car was filthy when I arrived even though it was a pre-arrange appointment. Salesman made lots of promises of things he will fix (Another red flag). Repair took longer than expected with times when salesman just didn't respond. After I finally collected the car, took it straight for an MOT, it failed, badly. I called them straight away and they tried to put the blame on me when clearly the car had only been driven the distance to my house. Once escalated to manager after threats of legal action, the manager personally called me and said he will fix every issue and provide a brand new MOT, again, I should have just returned the car. Within the first year of driving, covering less than 10k miles, the car had issues after issues, here are just a few: Drive unit failed completely, screen reboot issue, Battery complete failure requiring a new one, suspension. I have lost count the number of times I have taken this car to Tesla. Oh and there are paint marks in between most panels, so I assume this is a crash repair car.

We are sorry to be reading your review and we are sorry to hear you have had these issues.

You purchased a 4 year old at the time Tesla Model 3 with 81,000 miles from us back in July 2024. In August 2024, we replaced a shock absorber under warranty after you reported a knock, several weeks after collection. The vehicle was fully inspected prior to collection and there was no leak from the shock absorber, this developed after sale and can easily happen. Your claim that you took it straight for an MOT after originally collecting it is just not true. You heard a noise after a few weeks use and instead of reaching out to us, you decided to put the car in for an MOT (which was strange) and the leaking shock absorber was identified. It was only then you contacted us and we assisted. You also reported a few other minor items you were not happy with on your 81,000 mile car - all wear and tear related. We helped address these all for you free of charge.

After this work was completed, at the end of August 2024, we have not heard anything from you, some 18 months ago. We are unable to comment on anything since then, as have not been made aware of anything but none of these issues mentioned were present when you purchased the vehicle. All vehicles are sold in good faith but we are unable to predict the future, which is why it sensible to have warranty.

Reference your appointment, Tesla Model 3's along with Model Y's are our most popular vehicles. They literally sell within days of being advertised. July is also our busiest month of the year. In an ideal world, we would love to have every car fully prepared prior to an appointment but this is not possible. The car had just arrived into stock and needed to be prepared. You were advised of this, you could have waited to come in and view after the car had been prepared but at the risk that it was likely going to sell beforehand. As the car was still to be prepared, as we do with any customer in this situation, is we advise them of what will be done during preparation, so the customer has full understanding of what to expect on collection. Unsure how this is a red flag.

Reference your claim of the vehicle being a crash repaired, this is just not true. We only sell HPI clear vehicles and all cars go through extensive tests.
