Biased Moderators

I mean, it gets me shoot gigs which is nice, but the moderators are super biased and allow many users to post risky photos but then my account gets flagged for photos which aren't even worse than pg13. I hate how biased it is

Hated it, so I don’t use it

I don’t like the interface, and I also don’t like the way some parts of it don’t even work. For example, I try to enter my Instagram or my website, and it absolutely refused to allow me to do that and because of that wouldn’t let me go any farther. So I ended up having to create another profile, so those things would work. Actually, model mayhem was not very fruitful for me and what I needed it to do so I don’t like it.

Hey, I'm eugenestyles1

Hey, my name is eugenestyles1
I am a professional artist & photographer.
I recently had a most wonderful experience doing a photoshoot with Model, Laya_Balan.
Layla Balan is a natural beauty with flawless features, a majestic womanly body and wild curly hair, eyes that pierce your soul and a smile that makes hearts burn aflame.
Layla is a true professional model, she transitions from one incredible pose into another pose effortlessly, and as an artistic photographer, that makes your job so much easier. Working with Layla is a dream come true, she hit every pose perfectly, her anticipation was always on cue, seriously though Folks, if you want to do a photoshoot with a gracefully elegant, electrically seductive, magnetically charming young beautiful model, Layla Balan is a model that will make your photographs explode like a supernova from a billion light-years away.
.
Thank you, Layla_Balan for having patience and trust in my photography.

I'm unsure why the moderators are being…

I'm unsure why the moderators are being blamed for the website. I've used the site as a model for 10 years and the moderators have always been supportive. I have met a lot of nice models and photographers. The site is undoubtedly a mixed bag of pro photographers, guys with cameras, weirdos, and wanna-be photographers who don't have money to pay models and lowball a model or want the model to do free nudes. Some of these photographers get abusive if you stand your ground as a model. Why should anyone work for free especially if they have experience? moderators cannot control the behaviors of others. This is why disclosures, an agreement, and education on how to use the site are posted and given upfront upon signing up. If you're a photographer and got kicked off most likely you did something unprofessional to a model, solicited something that the site does not support such as porn or dating, or put the model at risk. Not sure why model mayhem should be risking their name for someone who made a mistake and keeps their profile this is a liability for them. Again the moderators have always been supportive. Models reading this please do your research on modeling, always take an escort, do not sign a release unless you understand it and the terms, and ask for money and a partial deposit for a shoot but remember to stay reasonable and professional.

Here we are again!

Here we are again. I tried to have faith in MM but it's a no go. The made a picture '18+' when I am showing nothing that goes against their guidelines. A classy picture I posted (mind you this picture is on IG, FB, TW with no problems and praise). I get a lot of love from photographers, models, etc. on this platform. I tried a VIP subscription again and it brought nothing but deceitful photogs asking for things that are irrelevant to modeling and have contacted moderators and not a lot was done cause these so called 'photographers' (with no real portfolios or social networking presence) still messaged me lewd messages. Once again certain models are (in which all human colors are beautiful before I say this) a white model can be near naked and pics displayed but mine was put with an 18+ label. I don't even post any boudoir nudes here anymore. Also it took me 3 times to delete my 'wallet' for subscription. I tried to contact them. Still no response. I finally was able to delete my cards attached to my wallet. MM still picks and choose what they want to do. I'm done cause I have all the great people and contacts that I need from here.

I've had problems right from the getgo…

I've had problems right from the getgo with these people. I'm still unable to update my profile because of a glitch they can't seem to fix. I had to create another profile which they've never verified. I did get one model out of it and I'll be working with him in August. My deal is the male form and I'm doing it with just my iPhone 13 Pro. @tmaxphotos7.
If I wanted to work with female models this would not be the place for it since they all look like trashy pornstars. No thanks. I will not be renewing my membership.

Garbage automated, unintelligent moderation...

Model Mayhem has apparently teamed up with "Google API" to provide the worst user service experience ever. They blame Google for mischaracterizing submitted photos such as quality-lit head and shoulder shots as "mature." Then you get snarky messages from their robot moderator telling you that all images are marked as mature content by default and that you need to go and unmark them, resubmit them for consideration...and blah, blah...and you guessed it,blah. This takes a ton of wasted time. Furthermore, half the models are one's that have been told they're pretty and should be a model by well-meaing and kind friends blowing smoke up their arses. Many of the same "models' take themselves far too seriously. From the models' perspective i suspect that they're plagued with greazy amateur "photographers" that just want to be in the presence of of nude female, regardly of her looks or talent. For the talented and accomplished who use this website, i apologize. I'm an experienced photographer with quality work posted in my sample shots and have gotten maybe one or two inquiries from their models. I consider it a waste of time.

Modelmayhem: "too old."

I'm a retired model and one of the things that instigated my decline wasn't physical age but actually this particular website Modelmayhem. I call it the Craigslist or eBay of the modeling world. Ah, spin the wheel and see what you come up with! And wasn't there a special on HLN about a pornographic couple who committed murder in Florida but the woman was using this website? Anyhow that's a separate issue. About 10 years ago "MM" was still a crapshot although I did get some good jobs through that interface I did encounter abusive and risky, non professional, unfortunate situations. It's basically a 'nude site.' This means that the majority of models do nudie cuties and in my experience those who don't unless they have a whopper of a resume and "port" are basically ignored. Many "'togs" can get very mean if a model, say, does lingerie and swimsuit but no "nudes." Many of the photographers want public nudity which for a lot of people is just a no no, at least those who are smart. The "mods" will really police and crack down; why? It's funny how the rules are so darn stringent but so many profiles show some nudity. Oops, you showed some "sumpin' sumpin'". If you are blocked or struck down with their disapproval, message them, the response can really snotty. Although if you've encountered an abusive or creepy member if you have proof in emails or the like these people might be more sympathetic with you. They also police against Adult anything...which doesn't make sense because it seems that much of the nudity seems to overlap with pornography in some way. Whether one is a model or photographer it's essential to practice some level of hypervigilance if there's no known information about who you are about to meet with. 6 out of 10 scenarios were red flags and dangerous experiences but I avoided a few more, thankfully. Also! "TFP" work is a huge liability and loss for models as so many photographers basically steal their hard earned material. Unless you've tons of money and legal recourse one takes a risk accepting these time for print/CD shoots. Craigslist, Sexyjobs and Modelmayhem are just a few of the modeling sites or listing venues where one has to use substantial caution. There's too many scams, weirdos and unverified non professionals. Meet in public if necessary, work with respected professionals and studios and hope for the best. Membership seems to be free for everyone but there's no vetting and portfolios can be doctored. There are ways to set profile to visible only by other members. They have a safety section but possibly sites like this can't be held liable for unfortunate situations even if extreme. They could also update their brand and interface but that same happy headphones banner has never been voted down.

A good site, can´t understand all the negative Feedback

I have been using this site since 2017 -- not necessarily to connect for modeling opportunities but to be able to showcase my work. The site may not be as high-end looking as other sites, but people should remember that it is primarely a website dedicated to connecting with others and posting casting calls -- it´s not primarely a portfolio site.

Concerning the many many complaints about bad customer support or rude behavior by the moderators -- haven´t had any proplems with that either. Whenever I uploaded something that was not in line with the guidelines set by ModelMayhem, I got an appropriate message in a totally neutral tone. The response speed when posting a question may not be the fastest, but I allways got a response within a couple of days.

It comes with the nature of the subject that there are potentially a number of doubtfull characters squirming around this site -- yet I believe this is nothing you can hold ModelMayhem accountable for, since obviously they cannot run a background check on everyone who joins (and there are millions of members). Going into a modeling shoot can be a risky thing and there are precautions every model can take -- these precautions are very carefully listed by the ModelMayhem site to reduce potential harm for Models going to a model-shoot. Also, the forum is very alive with topics around this subject as well.

So all in all I´m very pleased with this site. Even though I haven´t landed a job yet, this has more to do with the region I live in (indeed most models being in North America, UK, and Australia I think) and than the possiblities this website offers.

scam and joke

Well I have been trying for two years to create a photographer account that will let me contact models. The problem is there are three kinds of accounts for photographers.

unpaid and not activated by site staff : cannot contact anyone. only gives you a user name and password to log in with. You ONLY get to see nude images that the user selected as members only.
Still see every other nude image on the site. The site is strange, it will let ANYONE online enter the site and see the female model with her genitals exposed, or the male model masturbating himself. But will censor and block an image of a female model in a bra that has holes to let her nipples stick out.

unpaid and active:only wayt is to submit images of NUDE models, ideally FEMALE.

PAID, well PAID is paid.

Images I submit are ALWAYS in violation of some unknown policy on what is allowed in an image. I post images of females sitting on rock, leaning on a car, or standing in front of an outdoor theme wall mural. and i get my images rejected as being "illegal not allowed images" of landscapes and vehicles.

even though there are hundreds of thousands of clothed and unclothed female models in and on cars, and laying in forest settings.

An unreliable brand.

First of all I'm one of the many people they banned without an explanation or even a notice. I noted they point to their rules to justify such things when they reply. I think it's useful to compare them to other companies. Like the one you can use to log in here, Facebook.

Facebook gives you a time out if you break the rules. It's commonly called Facebook jail. Model Mayhem by comparison in effect justifies their actions by pointing to the user agreement. You know that text very few people ever read that is meant to protect and indemnify companies online. Facebook has one too. Sure they point to it when penalizing someone. However they don't automatically ban people for life because frankly it's not a smart way to do business. It results in the kind of reviews you see here.

Model Mayhem can be a useful site. Until the staff there gets involved. I'd assume they are not all bad but it only takes a few bad apples to ruin things for a lot of people. What I fell afoul of is the way they interpret the rules not the rules themselves. I can see kicking people who say take a work of art and misrepresent it as their own. However they stretch that scenario to situations where you are not misrepresenting anything. There's a quality problem on there. Bad quality images taken by "guys with cameras" so to speak. Dudes mostly interested in shooting nudes etc.

By comparison I used the service without incident since 2008. 13 years. I addressed questions I was getting because of the issue with unprofessional users. I contacted Nikon and was directed to their press section. I had images from them in a separate album from my actual work. I never represented it as my own and I crediting Nikon. I was an advertiser. Top paid level. I was there to hire people.

My advice for someone in my situation is try elsewhere at this point. The moderators are as bad as people are saying. There is no time out or warning system like on Facebook and other platforms. You can spend 13 years forming connections and networking only to have them ban you without notice or explanation. When they do give some sort of justification it's really not up to general standards employed by most other sites. They are not able to police their own site in a fair manner. It's going to keep costing them customers too I'd imagine.

I'm writing a couple months after it happened. I've moved to a different service provider. You see Model Mayhem does not treat you like a customer when you interact with them. They treat you like employee they can fire for cause. They take no responsibility and never acknowledge how they compare to other Internet Brands. Like the big names. That's where you find standards for company conduct. They can write whatever they like here but I'd suggest they stop blaming everything on users and start taking responsibility for past mistakes and arbitrary unfriendly decision making. It's not the rules that are the problem it's how they are being used.

Until they fix that issue and stop banning long time members without recourse I'd have say don't invest your time and money networking there. It happens to models too but they do seem to target photographers specifically.

For models I'd say if they won't let you bring an escort it's not worth it. Always bring someone. If they won't pay at least a living wage think twice unless you really like their work. Even first time models deserve a stipend of some sort to sign over rights to images of themselves. Always get it in writing how images will be used especially if it involves nudity. That's not in their rules to my knowledge. They don't use rules to protect people. Only to penalize and ban them on the first offence.

I've tried to give a pretty fair assessment. If say I had repeatedly broken the rules and then got kicked out that might be different. As it is there was a pretty understandable misunderstanding on my part. I took the rule in question to apply to people misrepresenting themselves to models. Not say using advertising photos from Nikon to accurately represent the equipment I deploy. I don't have a lot of time to be reading through a long list of rules all the time. If Model Mayhem was being realistic about it they would have an alternative to banning people and stop treating it like every situation is the same because they are not. This one size fits all approach is why they have universally bad ratings on these kinds of ratings sites I'd imagine.

I'm disappointed in them. Not angry I have other resources I can use. I'll just use an actual modeling agency but that precludes amateurs getting a chance to work with someone like me of course. That's what I looked for on MM. Real life people. No more though. They are a bad fit. Because of bad management.

Moderators

Just looking at the responses from the moderators on the bad reviews you can tell it’s a horrible ( but still #1 ) freelance modeling site. One person posted that they have horrible customer service, and verbal abuse from moderators ( especially moderator #7 Brandi ) and the response from MM had in it “ I’m sorry the customer service wasn’t up to your standards “. Umm.... That wasn’t an apology. That was a passive aggressive insult. I met a photographer that use to be a mod. They got some pretty crazy stuff happening behind the scenes.

never again...

I originally joined with a vip account for at the time, it was a pretty good site but then I got to know the truth and changed to a basic account and the truth is that MM depends on membership to stay open and yet their moderators and admins have no respect for the very people that keep the site going and over the years I death with harassment and bullying then they started putting restrictions on me and just for speaking my mind about their attitude then they deleted my account then they blocked me on facebook and instagram. This site is also full of perverts and the reason they blocked me on facebook is because I confronted someone for making sexual comments about a woman's naked backside and instead of deleting his comments, they instead blocked me so go figure...

And to all the models out there thinking of joining, my advice to you is, stay away and as far as possible from this site for it's full of perverts.
