Awful experience and no care afterwards...
We visited Macdonald Elmers Court Hotel & Resort.
Unfortunately we were both extremely disappointed with our experience.
Upon arrival, the booking was down as three people having facials (not correct), there was no receptionist (a personal trainer was covering).
The room and more impotently the treatment bed was filthy! You could clearly see where the previous client had just got up and we were asked to lay down! Oils all over the sheets (and sides by 'clean towels). My partner refused and asked for the sheet to be changed (which to be fair they did), the face hole smelt terrible. the 'clean' towels were literally chucked on the side. No care at all. I've attached pictures so you can see what we mean. My room was so dark I have no idea on the cleanliness!
The rooms themselves were freezing! We both complained of being so cold! When the therapist touched us, their hands were also freezing!
The beds were the most uncomfortable we have experienced (plastic sheets are used like you put on a child's bed to protect the mattress from night time accidents!)
This maybe could have all been ignored, but the treatment itself was very disappointing. We both felt like our therapists had received no training in massage at all, very inexperienced therapists. We both asked for firm/deep - as we asked on the consultation forms. this was just ignored. The treatment was far from that.
You could tell the experience level from simple things like, when fetching oil for the legs, my therapist made three trips up the room (per leg!).
After the massage, we went to have our tea, the handful of sandwiches themselves we of an ok standard, but the restaurant staff cleaning table legs around us should have taken place before or after eating, as the smell of cleaning fluids (and people dashing about) is not so nice when trying to relax and eat!
We did ask for as manager who we were told wasn't on site until after 2pm. By then we had had enough and just left.
What was supposed to be a nice relaxing day in a spa, turned into a very disappointing and expensive day.
Refused to pay charity donation.
Stayed twice this year at Southampton hotel.
Sadly not a company to trust. I booked several rooms using the easyfundraising ap and the hotel should have donated a percentage to my favoured charity. It rejected the claim even though I spent over one thousand pounds for the rooms and dinner. The charity should have received £11.73.
After 6 months of protest no answer!

Never going back
Recently my wife and I stayed the Forest Hills Self-catering accommodation in Aberfoyle.
On arrival at the hotel after a miserable drive in pouring rain I wanted to sit down and have a coffee. I got my Nespresso pods out to then realise no Nespresso machine was present. I called reception to be told curtly that they no longer provided this machine. The website states: “All kitchens are fully equipped including all the utensils you would expect plus an oven, microwave and dishwasher. There's even a Nespresso machine - very welcome after a day on the loch or a hike in the nearby Queen Elizabeth Forest!”
The receptionist did offer a cafetiere though. So having had a long miserable wet drive did she expect me to then drive to find an outlet that sold the appropriate ground coffee granules?
The settee had 2 large (circa 450mm) rips in the cushions – lovely, nice having the foam filling in full view!
The TV? Well the remote did not work (batteries and retaining cover issues.
The microwave did not work, it did not appear to be connected to a circuit – like all the other kitchen appliances. I therefore considered it was linked to the oven circuit.
Again I called reception to ask about the microwave – to be informed “you have an oven”.
I outlined the growing list of problems and requested that a maintenance engineer was to visit to understand and guide on the mounting issues. At this point I added that the freezer door was also badly damaged. I was informed that the engineer was to call. Some 1.5 hours later I called reception to understand when he was visiting, to be informed he was to attend at 18:00hours but he didn’t, as he decided to go home instead!
Next day I went to the reception and asked for an explanation as to why my complaints were being ignored. The receptionist checked the “system” to then indicate the wrong apartment number had been inserted!?*
Some of the other issues encountered were as follows:
• TV in the main bedroom, to switch it on the power plug was at ceiling level. So to watch the TV you had to ensure you were over 6’ 4” to reach the switch! That and a myriad of random cables were allowed to hang down.
• The main bathroom shower was designed for those that were under 5’ 2”. The hose from the mixer was at least 2’ too short. A handset installed not a full shower unit.
• The shower in the en-suite bathroom, the shower rail would not support the shower rose – it just kept slipping down the slide!
• The dimmable switch in the living main room – did not function. A safety risk?
• On the wall at the main TV obviously someone had decided to kill a bug and it would look attractive if the entrails were spread over the wall. This was the only aspect that I could deal with. Yes I washed the wall.
• Outside furniture had an attractive algal covering.
• Gym, 2 running machines did not function
• First day the drinking water fountain was broken.
Charging more than advertised rate, money grabbers!
We booked a room for the night of the Eurovision song contest online, advertised rate £143. Less than a week later they ring to say there was an 'error' with the pricing on booking.com which was their own fault and basically we now have to pay £385 within 24hrs or the booking will be cancelled. And we lose our right to cancel up until the day before, could only cancel until the 23rd of December. Raised it with booking.com who said there was nothing they could do and the price is now £485. Clearly what has happened here is the hotel has decided to cash in on the high demand for rooms and charge 3 times the advertised rates for customers who had ALREADY booked. Absolutely disgusting, will never use this chain of hotels again.

Stayed at the Manchester Piccadilly Hotel, room was lovely, staff helpful.
Had a massage in the spa from Charlotte and was the best massage I have had, I would definitely recommend. Thank you

We stayed at the Windsor hotel on the 25th of September. The location was perfect, the room was lovely, and the staff were brilliant. Ali who helped us park our car, and carried our bags and assisted us during our stay, was fabulous. He is a complete credit to the hotel and company. A wonderful member of staff!!!

We had just got married and couldn’t go on a honeymoon so booked a night here well the cost i expected a lot more than a room that was so old look like it was out of a retirement home no fridge for our champagne no water shower and fittings fell off hurt my foot manager was extremely rude that isn’t all but do NOT recommend this hotel

The staff here were all very lovely and helpful and the rooms were all clean. The amenities were all brilliant as well. Special thank you to Sabrina and Malik - they were extremely helpful during our stay and went above and beyond to make our experience great. Thank you!
Excellent!
The staff at this property are all great! They all go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Special thanks to Sabrina and Malik who were great and really helpful. Overall, we had a great experience, and the amenities were great. The hotel was wonderful. It was even better than expected. The price was amazing. The environment was pleasant and welcoming. Both check-in and check-out were professionally handled and easy. Thank you!
I never even got to the hotel
I never even got to the hotel - should be arriving today (15 Sep 2022) - as part of our golden wedding celebrations. But I was telephoned on Monday (12th) to, in airline parlance, be told that we were being bumped. Allegedly because the intermediary booking organisation's computer system had exceeded its allocation; and the hotel we wanted was fully booked. I said that I had booked ages ago (May). Didn't get a response to that - was offered another location which was too far away. I cancelled in disgust. My advice to potential future guests is don't even bother with Macdonald hotels Read the 66% 1 star reviews! If it were possible I would rate at zero.
What a terrible shame
What a terrible shame. Course is not bad, staff are friendly. Ordered a glass of prosecco and got charged £16 when a bottle is £30. Manager said well it is a large glass...a normal wine glass 3/4 full. The fact that there was no flute for prosecco is like they are making it up as they go along. Manager comes out and says well it's a large glass. Never ever again. If you come here for the golf, nip the shop first.

Took my friend away for her 50th and treated her to overnight spa weekend 😉 we enjoyed facials and massages from two lovely ladies and were spoilt rotten !
The pool area was busy but there's not much else to do with young children at Cardrona Peebles so we expected that 😉
Dinner was lovely and staff were really helpful and couldn't do enough for you, especially the two guys behind reception 😉 sorry, I can't remember their names 🙈😃
Thank you for a lovely stay 🤗😃
spend your money elsewhere
Was promised an upgrade by email and didn’t get it.
The went to dinner. Asked the waitress for recommendation of least we carbs in a meal. Was told one of them was fried chicken and not healthy so I should avoid it! Went for chicken salad. It was two slices of chicken in leaves. Daughters fish and chips was sub par. Brûlée was warm custard on the inside cold on the outside not a brûlée. Breakfast was poor. Second day breakfast they only provided one of and there were two in the party. The whole experience was appalling when it cost £500 and the next day we stayed in St Andrew’s, half the cost double the experience.
WORST SPA EXPERIENCE
WORST SPA EXPERIENCE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I have emailed all points of hotel contact every week for three weeks with no response. I would like to make it clear that this was the worst spa experience I have had to date.
Firstly, myself and my boyfriend were aware we needed to make our treatment bookings prior to arrival so we called the premises over 20 times. I used extension numbers for the spa reception, the hotel reception and bookings, and not one phone call was ever answered. Our treatment was finally booked at last minute following failed live chats on the website and THREE follow-up emails.
When we arrived, we were shown to our room, and I was given broken (likely already worn) flip flops that were useless and dangerous when walking up and downstairs. No one was available at the spa to replace these. The robes were not 'fluffy' as stated on the website, but itchy and dry - a sign they had been washed and reused too many times.
We found our way to the 'spa' to be greeted with a pool that looked NOTHING like the pictures advertised - the website states 'plenty natural daylight and breathtaking views of our grounds' which is ridiculous - the windows have been covered up and outside is a grotty car park - there are no breathtaking views.
The website also states that this is an 'oasis of relaxation and tranquility' - how can this be when there were not enough seats/beds for all customers? We were NOT prewarned that half of the pool would be cut off for 'lane swimming', and that the other half would host parent-led swimming lessons. There was no chance to relax when we were repeatedly splashed by other customers and surrounded by the screeching of children. The website also falsely states that the pool is heated, and this is clearly not the case. We also could not locate the 'thermal suite', stated on the website - I don't think this exists.
We were very grateful to get away from the awful pool/'spa area' to attend our treatments, which were average at best. One young lady running the spa alone meant that we were left waiting for some time - but she was polite and well-mannered when she did get to us. The treatment itself was great - but the surroundings afterwards were awful. Multiple candles were out, the chairs were covered with throws/towels that were falling down and this was NOT 'an oasis of indulgent relaxation'. Instead we felt on edge and couldn't wait to leave.
Our room was average, with paint peeling and the main room light not working. Breakfast was awful - service was slow (we wanted to order from the menu rather than have the unappetising, condensation-filled buffet) and had to call a member of the team to serve us. The food was disgusting - the oil on the omelette had to be mopped up with a tissue prior to eating, and the avocado toast had no flavouring whatsoever. The restaurant itself was dark and unwelcoming, and a visitor next to us stated that he couldn't tell the difference between the ketchup and jam, due to the lack of light.
This was the biggest disappointment for our anniversary break and I cannot emphasise enough how much the spa was mis-sold. This grotty, outdated swimming pool should NOT be featured on the Spa Breaks website, and I have warned all friends and family to AVOID. There was no chance to relax and no 'oasis'. This was a limited gym with an outdated pool attached, with an upstairs room claimed to be home to treatments. This has been the biggest waste of money and we will never be returning to any of the Macdonald's Hotel premises.
I played golf today at the Macdonald…
I played golf today at the Macdonald Resort in Tarporley, PORTAL CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE.
I have two issues:
1) The tees were rubbish for a so called Championship Course.
2) Having finished the golf, myself and partner ordered lunch at 12.50. Ceasar salad for me, burger and chips for him. At 1.20 I went to bar and asked when we could expect the food and was told we were next. 1.30ish my ceasar salad was delivered and we expected the burger imminently, but no!! 10 minutes passed and no burger was delivered (my salad was getting warm sitting there too). At 1.40 we gave up, I returned the untouched salad to the bar and asked for a refund. The barman had to go and find some one to authorize it, but in the meantime a lady came and refunded me for the meals only. I would have thought as a gesture the 2 cokes could have also been refunded.
As we were leaving the barman returned with the burger, lol.
The clubhouse was not busy, so WHY the delay and more improtantly why would you serve one meal 20 mins before the other.
Extremely poor performance.
Shoddy treatment !’n
We have several guests booked into the Frimley Hall hotel. 3 days before the wedding brides elderley grandparents were emailed to say they had been relocated as the people in the room had extended their stay?. The wedding venue is near the Frimley Hall and that is why we chose it so they could be near if they needed to go back early ! Why would you not tell the previous guests that the room
was already booked so an extended stay was not possible.
We also tried to arrange dinner there the night before the wedding for the whole family of 14, giving over 2 months notice and we were told we would get a call from the sales team . After trying on 3 occasions this did not happen .!
Very very disappointing and shoddy treatment !!
Would not recommend this hotel if you have an important occasion !!!!!and out weddi b planner has taken it off their list of recommended local hotels !!’
Cashless grump
Very disappointed to find out Mcdonalds Hotels don't take cash, I don't want to pay by card, I like to pay everything with Cash, this is a bad move and very wrong.
I want to give you a 0
I want to give you a 0, but that’s not possible, so I give you a 1.
Booked an ItIsOn spa deal for 2 at the Inchyra Hotel. A 55 minute treatment each for 2 people for £99. Both of us picked a full body massage. One got a full body massage and the other got back, neck, shoulders and backs of legs.
Complained to ItIsOn who offered a 10% off code, not good enough. Escalated to a manager who offer £10 gift voucher, no thanks - won’t be using company again.
ItIsOn have said the hotel won’t issue refund as the issue wasn’t raised with the spa at the time of the treatment… We didn’t know how different the massages were until we discussed our experience afterwards.
Contacted Macdonald hotels, no reply.
Rubbish experience and even worse customer care. Save your money and go to the Blythswood instead.
The MacDonald Portal Hotel and Golf…
