It is unbelievable that they can offer their service to such a low price compared to other companies. They are a rather small company so the service feels very personal, the clients are treated more like friends. I definitely recommend them, you will not regret it!

This was my second time climbing Kibo Peak, and I feel blessed that I chose Kili Heroes for this experience. We chose a seven-day trek and went via Machame up to the summit and down via Marangu, which I have since found out is not an easy thing to arrange with the park authorities. The leaders of our climb (Evarist, Mwinyi, and Laurent) paid attention to every detail - lodging, tents, food, etc. - so we could focus on our adventure and develop memories that will last a lifetime. You could really sense our guides' (Mwinyi and Laurent) joy in being a part of these expeditions, and I must say their enthusiasm was infectious. I felt like we mattered to them and were more than clients, but were friends as well. This is not just a job for the Kili Heroes staff. This is their passion. These guys rock!!!

I have traveled to Tanzania several times to work with a group of Maasai women so I was very committed to choosing a local company to hike the mountain over one owned by foreigners. I am very glad I did. The owners are extremely professional and will make sure that your trip is very well organized. They will also listen carefully to any specific needs your group may have and work with you to make sure they are met. Although Kili Heroes are the least costly choice, I believe it is because they are a small operation and are trying to keep their business competitive. I did not find that they "cut corners" in any way. We had a proper tent and more food than we were able to consume each day. Our guides were excellent and accommodating, our cook was fantastic, and the porters were all very friendly. In fact, I stay in touch with the porter that carried my gear and just finished supporting his college education. I found him so hard-working and earnest that I wanted to find a way to support him further in his work.

One of the owners makes himself very available for planning and will be available via his mobile the days before your trip for any last minute planning. He's as eager and willing to arrange your trip as he seems! I really encourage you to use Kili Heros. I'm so fond of them now that when I return to Tanzania for work I'd enjoy visiting them just to reconnect.

As an aside, I followed the tipping recommendations I read about on-line and tipped the team generously. It is important to do so given that they are one of the least expensive guides on the mountain.

The only other thing I'd suggest is that if it's within your means, to have the people in your traveling group consider gathering extra hiking clothing (boots, hats, head lamps, etc.) to provide as gifts or donations to the porters. No matter which company you choose, the porters are all under-dressed because they cannot afford proper hiking clothes or shoes. The clothes they do have often come as used donations. If your group can collect hiking clothes from friends before traveling it would make a very nice gift to give upon your departure.

From Everist greeting us at the airport, to Mwinyi, Babuu and all of the porters and our cook helping us on our 7 day trek up Mount Kilimanjaro we were treated amazingly well. They run a very competent and professional trekking company that supplied us with everything we needed to succeed on our summiting Mount Kilimanjaro traveling the Machame route. Our expectations were regularly exceeded with all aspects of our trip! The food was fantastic, the tents and sleeping bags kept us warm and the charming personalities of the whole team who took much enjoyment in helping us because they clearly love their jobs! This is the only company I would use to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. We stayed another 5 days and Kili Heroes took us on a safari which was amazing also! Kent, our driver and guide has enormous knowledge of African wildlife and all of the 4 parks we attended. The accommodations Kili Heroes arranged for us during the entire trip were great in every way and made our trip that much more special. I climbed Uhuru as well as visited Tarangire, Serengeti Ngorongoro National Parks with the people from Kili Heroes. Professional organizers, great food, Best friends, easy to talk, helpful, trustfull only pros!!! Highly recommended!!
