Great service and when one cupboard was missed off the delivery it was redelivered the same day

I would not use Howdens again. We faced a number of issues that cost us a significant amount of extra cost and inconvenience.
1. The design process: was good at first and our designer helped us design our kitchen and was helpful in the back and forth until we landed on the one we wanted. One trouble we did have was that we were never able to see the prices for any of the items so it was hard to decide what to remove when we got the first quote back and it was too high. We did finally get there and we paid the quote.
2. Delivery: we were told a date and that it would be in the afternoon. It turned out to be in the morning. We weren't living at the property at the time and had to rush over. I then had to spend hours moving everything because we had carpet fitters coming that day and the delivery wasn't in the right place. If we had known that it was the morning, we could have been there to direct the delivery guy.
3. Installation: we were set to have our installation at the end of November 2025. Our designer was on holiday then. Of course, we don't begrudge him a holiday but it didn't seem that there was any plan if there were issues, which there were:
- All of the carcasses had the holes for the shelves in the wrong places.
- The kitchen measurements were wrong which meant carcasses had to be adjusted mid-job individually.
- Two of the worktops were damaged so they had to go back.
- We were missing a number of small pieces. We didn't have enough handles, for example.
3. The Cost: with all of these issues, our job ran over by 2 - 3 days at a cost of approximately £500 - £750 and our builder had to move to the next job while our kitchen was still not done.
In the run up to Christmas (which we were hosting) it was very difficult to find time to get the builder in again. We managed to get one more day and the kitchen was ready enough to use, but not finished. These issues stemmed from the design and production issues with Howdens.
There were also some other design issues such as internal drawers not opening when the cupboard door was open.
We still do not have all of the last pieces that we need and because we have had to continue work on the kitchen we have damaged things that otherwise we wouldn't have. We have also had to do a lot of extra work ourselves.
Later we go another invoice for more than £300. With some extras that we returned, that came down to about £220. To be honest, this just feels like a shakedown. At no point were we ever allowed to see the breakdown of extras that we owed and why. I still don't understand what it is that we owed for. We did not have the budget for this as we thought, understandably, that we had paid what we owed when they quoted us and we paid them. So, that's on a credit card now, which is great!
When we asked for the breakdown, they said nothing and started asking our builder to pay. He then pressured us to pay and we felt like we had no choice.
In summary:
1. No transparency on prices.
2. No contingency plan for anything going wrong.
3. Flawed design that cost us a lot of money.
4. Shakedown for mystery costs, months after the kitchen was paid for and delivered.

Shaun Courtliff from the Bredbury branch was fantastic. Made contact with us within 24 hours, design visit a couple of days later, rendering of design a day after that and a few days later all sorted, ordered with a delivery date. Great advice on all aspects including appliances, worktops, lighting - even hinges. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. Quality is great. Definitely recommend and use again. Thanks so much !!!!

What I like about howdens is the flexibility to change on the 11th hour. As depots are local and generally stock all items. Any issues can be resolved quickly and easily with little stress to the fitter or the customer. Yes you could buy cheaper from another popular national supplier but they don’t stock the product so the job could possibly stop in some cases and cause more costs to the customer.

Would have been nice if staff had not been watching a movie on tv , it was blasting and could concentrate. It was not the best experience. Saying that,the girl who helped me was very good and informative cannot say much for the men
