Terrible gym on the slow decline since the end of Covid. With an aesthetic somewhere between “Thai prison” and “nightclub” the place is on a race to the bottom it would seem.

They’ve recently removed most of the cardio equipment which makes it even less appealing as a gym for me. You used to be able to jump straight on a treadmill but now there’s usually a 15 min queue.

Equipment is regularly broken and the plumbing regularly leaks or drains are blocked leaving showers dirty and foul smells. Additionally the water fountains are regularly broken and the shower soap dispensers regularly are empty regardless of time of day.

The music is obnoxiously loud and the majority of people using this gym are narcissists or entitled idiots who monopolise the equipment and set out tripods to film themselves! Management should take steps to ban this sort of thing. Member do NOT give consent to be randomly filmed by strangers. Combined with the obnoxiously loud rap/garage music which kills your workout mood… le sigh

Finally the marketing and “vibe” could easily be mistaken for an early 2000s copy of FHM or Zoo magazine, crass and cringe in equal measure I feel sorry for whoever comes up with this stuff.

Anyway, the TL;DR version: used to be a good gym worthy of the price tag. Trying to stay relevant but failing. Appeals to knuckle draggers and narcissists, or anyone unfortunate to work nearby like me and have this as their work partner gym 🤦‍♂️ save your money and go elsewhere like Third Space, Rebel or F45 you’ll get a better workout and save yourself the agro

Over priced and over crowded. Unless you work nearby cannot get into any of the classes. The staff are not very helpful. They are if you are looking to join or “look the part” as in already in shape. Machines broken down waiting weeks to be fixed.not worth the money.

Desperately trying to get in touch with someone regarding my membership for a month now, all my emails have been ignored and when speaking to someone over the phone they lack all empathy (or even interest) and just say they’ll send an email for you.

Pros:-
1. Very large. Very well-equipped.
Cons:-
1. Dirty. An empty soda-can was left in a corner. It was still there, 3 days later.
2. Sewage smell. There is a constant bad smell by the leg-press machines. I assume due to the sewage pipes that run along the ceiling ,from the block of flats above.
3. Nobody replaces weights. There is no weight replacement mentality, by the other members. Looking for a particular free-weight, may take a long time, as people just leave them on the floor at the other side of the gym.
4. A Narcissist's paradise. Full of narcissists with tripod phone-cameras, filming themselves. Then get angry when you mistakenly walk past them. (I also do not want to be in the background, for someone else's OnlyFans page.)
5. Awful misogynistic gangster rap, playing loudly on most days. A rhythm not conducive for a good work-out.

They’re overselling, misleading about the crowd.

You can’t cancel your membership easily, they just made intentionally difficult the whole process.

Long story short worst gym experience when you consider how much they charge.

Deceptive and Overcrowded
Absolutely terrible experience. The sales staff completely misled me about class availability and gym access. They painted a picture of an amazing facility, but in reality, the gym is so overcrowded you can’t even use the equipment. Classes are impossible to book despite their 'over 20 classes a day' claim. Customer service? Non-existent. Avoid this place at all costs.

Basically, the staff are great - both teachers and support staff and Gymbox offers some excellent classes. Notes are that the weights area is crowded after work; I was really hoping to use the sauna but for me, it's too much dry heat and needs a bit of humidity added, and some classes on weekend afternoons would be great.

Its a very nice gym and the people are very friendly love the classes

I love the vibe in the gym. The gym actually is not too bad. They could fix the equipment much quicker as I’ve been going for a month to Stratford Westfield GYMBOX. I can see that some equipment is broken and it’s not been fixed for like two weeks, it’s a bit shame as I’ve heard GYMBOX it’s one of the best gyms in capital other than that, the stuff is super helpful toilet could be cleaned more often as well

I’ve just started to go to the gym and ever since going to the gym box I’ve loved it. The staff, trainers and teachers are incredible and so helpful as well as friendly. The machines are top notch and just over all the facilities are amazing

The personal trainers at Old Street made me scared to come to the gym again.

I experienced dizziness at the gym so went to reception and was told to sit at a table on my own, with nobody checking up on me.

I left the gym still feeling dizzy because it was better than sitting on a table on my own out of sight.

Having tried to cancel my contract after this event. It was my second time visiting - I attribute passing out to the lights, nightclub-level volume of the music, and over crowdedness.

I was told verbally and trusted the staff member that there's a 14 day cancellation guarantee, but no mention of the fact that if you visit a second time, you can't exercise this cancellation.

So upon trying to cancel, they're utterly refusing to cancel my membership despite the environment, my experience with dizziness, and failure of duty of care shown by staff.

Now after trying to cancel my contract 7 days in, they've locked me in to another ~360 days point blank refusing that they've done anything wrong, trusting their employee's account over mine.

Requested to speak to a manger or a phone call to discuss the issue but have point blank been ignored on that request.

Avoid Gymbox at all costs.

I had a very disappointing experience with Gymbox. When I initially signed up, I was told about a promotional rate and straightforward membership terms. However, it quickly became clear that they didn’t fully disclose important details, such as upgrade clauses and an unexpected cancellation fee. It feels like I was misled from the start, signing up under false pretences.

When I attempted to clarify these hidden fees, customer service failed to respond. There is no telephone number to contact to speak to someone

I expected a trustworthy and transparent gym, but instead, I’ve ended up with frustration and unexpected charges. I would not recommend this gym to anyone looking for a fair and honest membership experience.

Really nice gym. Great equipment, large changing rooms and nice staff.

I really like how many classes there are available and the staff is the nicest! but I hate the gym lightining, its so chaotic and disturbing. Also, the place smells really bad and muffled and the water fountains are dirty.
