This is a clear example of how disgraceful some people can be. We spent a lot of time sourcing the right product because it was discontinued.

The moment she said she wanted a refund, we explained that there were terms and conditions she had to follow — specifically, she had to ship the product back to us for inspection, which is exactly what our terms and conditions require.

This is because of claims that the product was used or repackaged. If we do not have the product back, we cannot issue a full refund. This is how it works on every website, even Temu: you have to return the product under their terms.

Second, you accused us of selling counterfeit products, of misleading customers, or of sending a used product. We do not do that and never have. As for who we are and who owns us: we are still NZ-based.

The previous owners were baby-oriented, and we are a business that supports that; other businesses fall within our scope, we sell a wider range of products, and we work with a variety of partners. We have never dodged anyone.
You have threatened all kinds of action and complaints — to Afterpay, to this party and that — and we will win, because we have proof. Why would we be afraid of complaints to anyone?

If we ask you to follow the terms and conditions, you are the one who is not taking responsibility. You bought from a website, and you are not following their terms and conditions — that is precisely why they exist. If you play the lotto, you are bound by their terms and conditions too.

The product was not counterfeit, it was not used, and neither is the business. The business does not need to change anything for her. If you prefer, you are free to buy from Temu. Anyone can buy from them, and they do sell counterfeits — they copy NZ businesses, use their images, copy everyone, and display them, and it is up to you. If you do not shop there, you shop elsewhere. We are not misleading anyone, we are not disrespecting anyone, and we do not accept that you are entitled to ignore the terms and conditions.
We are happy for you to pursue this further and do whatever you want — there are terms and conditions. If these reviews make us lose, so be it: we have been operating since 2019 and we will always be around.

We are not a scam. We send products to every customer, even if there is a delay; we will supply everything, and if we cannot, we will issue a full refund.

We have never ripped anyone off and do not intend to. We do not need to justify ourselves, deny anything, apologize, or argue with someone who does not accept the terms and does not take responsibility. You can do whatever you like, but if you go into a dispute, the dispute will land in our favour.

Before, we were willing to help you with a full refund if the product had been shipped; now we will simply go into a dispute, because you are being very difficult. We have shipped that product to other people before and have never had a complaint.

If you do not read a website's terms and conditions, do not buy from that website. No one has misled anyone.

I bought a battery powered portable heater to use it for camping. It says in your website it is battery powered. I didn't see any battery power in here. It needed to to plug in to start the heater. It just arrived just now. I am asking for a full refund because I can't use it in camping. We are going over night in the mountain and beach. Hoping for your kind and consideration. However, the product description on our website does not state that this heater is battery powered or designed to operate without a power connection. The item supplied is the same product that was ordered and it has not been substituted or replaced with a different model.

It appears that your expectations may have been based on information from an external advertisement or another website. GiftTree NZ does not create or control advertisements from third parties, including branded dropshipping businesses or other sellers promoting products online with different claims. First of all, this is not a scam website.

We have already discussed this with you and sent you a proposal, which you rejected. Our terms and conditions clearly allow for substitutes, and we have always operated within those guidelines.

This negative review stems from expectations created by customers who watch branded dropshipping products being advertised by outside companies in New Zealand. To be clear, branded dropshipping means taking a product from overseas—essentially a Chinese product—and giving it a brand name to make it unique. This is done to avoid people buying the same item from Temu, as Temu is known for selling counterfeit products. So this is what people keep watching online—these heavily marketed, branded dropshipping ads.

When people see those advertisements and then come to buy from us, it creates problems. We do not know how a branded dropshipper markets a product on Facebook or Instagram ads, nor what value they place on the product. We certainly do not advertise that way. Those dropshippers create standalone websites and run ads, but customers find us through Google.

For example, someone bought from us—two beautiful lamps, in fact—and that person left a bad review. Apparently, those lamps were advertised elsewhere as being touch-sensitive and capable of letting you communicate with family over 10,000 kilometres away. That customer essentially bought a similar product from us based on claims made in an advertisement they saw on Google. We have never made such a claim, nor do we have anything like that in our product description. We keep our descriptions very basic and factual.

This affects us unfairly. If you watch things online and buy from dropshippers, you are exposed to scams. We are your saviour by sending you the right products. Any website ending in .com—or even .co.nz, for that matter—is not necessarily a New Zealand-based website. But more importantly, dropshippers have learned to say they are local. How can you know a website is not a branded dropshipper? A branded dropshipper will usually have a single-product website, focusing on one item that is heavily advertised on Facebook and Instagram.

So the real issue is whether you read the terms and conditions. We have made it clear: we sent you the same product, under the same brand, or an equivalent—meaning the core functionality of the product does not change.

This is what happens when people shop online without reading the fine print. Next time, buy from those dropshippers' websites and see if they even send you a product. At least with us, you received a higher-quality product.

We do not offer refunds once a product has been shipped and used. Moreover, this is a product for hygienic purposes, so we cannot resell it.

We do not agree with this review or the claims made about our sourcing. We have never used Temu, AliExpress, or any similar platforms as our suppliers. We have our own established methods overseas and work directly with manufacturers to produce and customize our products to a higher quality standard. For the same type of product, there can be ten different quality levels. The lowest quality is typically what you find on Temu, made to hit a price point we simply do not compete with.

We are not a Chinese-operated business like Temu, and we have no connection to them. Unlike those platforms, whose business model is widely known to involve selling customer data, we prioritize your privacy and will never spam you with hundreds of emails or sell your personal information. Many of the reviews claiming we sell AliExpress products were not truthful and were posted by individuals we have never served.

We also sell unique products, like plants and bulk foods, that these platforms do not offer, and we are proud to support our partners in New Zealand and help small local businesses. Ultimately, it is up to people to decide where they shop. You can choose to give your data and credit card to Temu, or you can shop with a company that offers a secure, spam-free experience with higher-quality goods. We cannot compete with their shipping costs or logistics, often because we pay double for our products just to get them made, but the difference is in the quality and the ethics.

Our mission is simple: to fight back against the flood of cheap, disposable products from data-harvesting apps. We know we cannot compete with Temu on price. Their logistics and shipping costs are practically unbeatable because we often pay double just to manufacture our higher-quality goods.

But we can do something they will not: we share our profits and give money back to the people who support us. Instead of selling your data or spamming you with a hundred emails a week, we let you shop securely. We offer products they cannot, like plants and bulk foods, made ethically without slave labor.
