After witnessing how they treated the lady who mistakenly walked out with something and then went back in, I will never set foot in there again.

Their treatment of customers, especially with young children has fallen below standards.

Use a different garden centre. Sapcote Garden Centre is very good and has some decency to it.

Everyone makes mistakes and she could have just walked off with the goods. She was honest and went back to be treated horribly and filmed. Totally disgusting behaviour.

Shame on Gates.

Awful treatment to customers. Straight to defensive and agressive behaviour and intimidation of a young mum and her child. Also a lazy and unsympathetic response from the garden itself shows they don’t care & that any future response will be due to the pressure of these bad reviews. Shame on you.

Beware of Gates Gift Vouchers, our son purchased one for his mother on 9th May we visited in August to spend it to be told it had been redeemed on the 13th May. We were able to prove that we were in a different part of the country and couldn't possibly have spent it. Assistant was very polite and understanding but was unable to do anything. I wrote to their general manager but have not even had the courtesy of a reply

I rarely write reviews but felt compelled to praise the exceptional level of customer service from every member of staff I interacted with. Each one was polite incredibly friendly patient helpful and on three occasions went above expectations. This is rare these days and made my visit an absolute pleasure

Started with at best an average lunch in the cafe we proceeded to buy a couple of items from the garden centre. On getting to the till my husband realised we had been over charged for an item. He raised this with the lady serving us. She was delightful and couldn’t have been more helpful. She asked that my husband took a photograph of the price card. The cashier asked her supervisor to make the change. What a contrast. Rude to both the lady serving us making both my husband and I feel very uncomfortable. Not only did she not believe the lady serving us but asked to see the photograph for herself, then she had to take a photograph of the photograph. At which point she made the change then walked off without further comment. Rude and most definitely not customer facing!

I would like to provide some feedback regarding my visit to the garden centre on 18 July.

During my visit, I purchased a plant along with a decorative pot. Unfortunately, the pot I wanted was the last one available in the size I needed, and it had multiple scratches and visible damage.

I spoke to a member of staff who appeared to be the manager. He offered a 10% discount, but I explained that I did not feel this was fair considering the condition of the pot and that I would need to repaint it to make it look presentable. I asked whether a larger discount could be considered.

His response was that the pot would get damaged through use anyway. I found this comment disappointing and dismissive. While I appreciate that outdoor pots can naturally develop wear over time, that does not justify selling an already damaged item at what I felt was an insufficient discount. I expected my concerns to be taken more seriously and for the existing damage to be acknowledged.

I accepted the purchase because it was the only pot available in the size I needed, but I left feeling disappointed with how the situation was handled. I hope you will take this feedback into consideration, as I believe customers should receive both fair treatment and respectful customer service.

No reply to previous review-what a surprise-not!!

Visited with a friend. Had to send food back in the restaurant. Chips looked as if they had been recooked. Lots of batter on the outside and no potato?? Sandwich filling poor. We both wanted to buy a garden bench. Priced at £159. Free delivery. We had seen it elsewhere at £139. Free delivery. The guy in the garden furniture section said they would price match. I had purchased a garden furniture set 4 weeks previously and wanted a bench to complete my garden. Got to the tills very unhelpful staff who spoke to the tills manager saying these women "think" someone has told them we can price match??. We know what we were told. The upshot was we walked out without spending a penny at Gates and ordered elsewhere. This place has gone down hill recently. Getting too big for their boots. Won't be returning.

Did everything wrong from start to finish. Couldn't fulfil order, didn't tell me for 5 days, took my money then had to endure an arrogant customer service experience. Have to wait up to 10 days for a refund.

Sent me wrong items ordered through web site and then completely ignored my request for a return / exchange.
I won’t give them another penny of my money.

Plants arrived in perfect condition , great protective packaging .

The staff in Hinckley are above-average helpful and friendly and seem genuinely pleased to help, from the front desk to the till. Large range of products in that store. Separate to the store, Gilly at customer services on email was also incredibly helpful and friendly.

Visited Hinckley yesterday. Quality of garden produce was of a very high standard which was reflected in their high prices. The restaurant was very disappointing with no natural light and for first time visitors no instructions for serving and table occupancy. The impression i got straight away was that they were overstaffed in all departments staff standing and talking to each other and one comment i heard was they can afford to be overstaffed with the prices they charge.

The garden table and chairs i bought are fine. The problem was in the delivery of goods. I waited in for a confirmation call that never came. I chased up Gates who appeared helpful and looked to re-organise delivery for an afternoon slot. Predictably, the set came in the morning with virtually no notice ,which meant me cancelling various appointments . I phoned Gates to advise them that the delivery driver said they never do afternoon deliveries!! Was promised a call back from the manager to apologise which of course hasn't happened. They need to co-ordinate the delivery system way better than it currently is.

Gates Garden Centre is a must visit. So much choice on offer there.
However, we visited today for afternoon tea for 2. This was a leaving gift voucher and we were much looking forward to it.
I can't say anything about the quality, just the portion size. This consisted of 4 dainty sandwiches, 2 scones and a very small selection of cakes. At a cost of £22.50 each. We both said that this would not have been worth £45. We think there needs to be a few more items on the plate. Not good value I'm afraid

Staff where lovely and helpful.

Everything appeared hopeful however I felt peckish and ordered a ham sandwich. (After queuing)

Inflation is a dirty word but £11.00 for a sandwich is profiteering beyond belief....!

Eat before visiting or just go somewhere else...

Check out their refund policy. We recently purchased a STURDI parasol for our patio. It was fitted to the instructions in our patio furniture set. The following day and In a light breeze and while not open the lower tube bent and tore level with the table. On returning the parasol for a refund as clearly the product is not fit for purpose, we were told that it should 1) not be opened in a breeze, 2) should not be left out when not being used and 3) should not be used in anything but a 4 seater set. None of this info was given to us at the time of sale. The manager handling our request did not even take the trouble to ask for the exact circumstances under which it failed, she simply assumed that it was open.

Despite their notices regarding refunds a simple google search will reveal that UK Garden centres cannot refuse a refund even though they may display messages to the contrary for goods that are not fit for purpose or faulty.
NEVER shopping there again.

They only sent a part of my order. When I followed up with where the remainder of my goods were, they simply ghosted me.

Despite Gates Garden centre receiving our return on 14th April we have heard nothing since, let alone our refund, no response to our email either, we will raise this with our credit card company should the refund not be forthcoming

We like Gates Somerby centre, but one of the things that we do not like is the attitude of some of their supposedly "friendly and helpful staff", in particular the staff on the tills as you exit the centre. A smile, and a little bit of assistance for an elderly customer who is just getting to grips with using a smartphone and their Customer Loyalty App is surely not too much to ask ? Especially when you are spending the best part of £90 on a few plants!
