“RV owners
“RV owners – HIGH caution of doing service work at this location!!”
I own a 2000 Beaver Contessa, diesel pusher, rear radiator. A few years ago, I took it to Freightliner NW in Coburg Oregon for a radiator cleaning, I was experiencing some high temperature issues while climbing hills. After reading many forum posts about slobber tubes pushing oil into the radiator, I thought it would be a good idea and Freightliner NW recommended it. While removing the radiator and CAC they noticed I needed a new CAC, so that was replaced. After return of the coach to me the system seemed to get worse, more heating and now overheating was occurring. Over the next year many diagnoses were performed with no resolution, after new radiator, new engine (yes new engine recommended by them), many trips to the chassis dyno the problem was still there, extremely frustrating, probably 6-8 people at Freightliner NW and the chassis dyno could not figure it out.
Fast forward to July of 2022 I decided to take it to Cummins NW in Coburg to see if I could get a fresh set of eyes on it, well guess what? Within minutes Cummins came back and said Freightliner had installed the engine cooling fan backwards (during the original cleaning), unbelievable!! $43K later and it was so simple of a problem how could that get missed, especially after I had asked them many times if than fan was installed correctly, I always got this look like “Sir we know what we’re doing”
After sending a letter from my attorney asking for some compensation, I received no response! I don’t feel like spending $50-$100K fighting the issue so thankful for social media I can share my experience and hope no other RV owner has to go thru this issue at Freightliner NW like I did.
