I purchased a BMW 5 Series G31 from Fords of Winsford for £21,898 and the experience was unacceptable from start to finish.
When FOW describe their vehicles as “beautifully prepared”, that claim does not reflect reality. On collection, agreed cosmetic work (scratches to be polished out) had not been completed. More concerning, by the time I arrived home, the engine management light had already illuminated.
Within the first week, a further issue developed — a drivetrain (gearbox) noise during low-speed manoeuvring. Based on how the fault presented, it was immediately clear this was not a minor defect.
After reporting these issues, I then had to wait approximately three weeks just to secure a booking. The vehicle was subsequently retained by FOW for around four additional weeks before a courtesy car was even provided. When one was eventually supplied, it was a 2013 Vauxhall Insignia — entirely inappropriate as a replacement for a vehicle of this value. In total, I was without the car for approximately eight weeks.
Communication throughout was consistently poor. At every stage, I was required to chase for updates, with little to no proactive contact. Even my formal complaint had to be chased before it was acted upon. Although the matter was escalated to a senior manager who assured me communication would improve, this proved to be empty reassurance.
The fault was ultimately diagnosed as an engine mount, and the vehicle underwent repair with a reported road test confirming the issue had been resolved. This was demonstrably incorrect. Upon collection, the exact same fault was immediately present — before I had even left the car park.
Additionally, after being informed the vehicle was ready for collection, it was presented in an extremely poor state — visibly dirty and clearly not prepared to any reasonable standard, despite having been in their care for an extended period. The issue had not been fixed, and the overall presentation reflected a lack of basic attention to detail.
At that point, I rejected the vehicle — a course of action effectively acknowledged as appropriate by the aftersales team.
While the rejection was accepted and a full refund agreed, this does not excuse the overall handling of the situation. After eight weeks in their possession, the vehicle was returned in the same faulty condition, raising serious concerns about both the quality of diagnosis and the standard of their checks prior to release.
Spending over £20,000 on a vehicle only to be left without it for two months, dealing with delays, poor communication, and a failed repair process, is entirely unacceptable.
Based on this experience, I would not recommend Fords of Winsford.
I’d say they are definitely a cut above your typical car supermarket. Very friendly staff, no pushy sales and a relaxed atmosphere. Smooth sales process with the car ready as agreed and on time within a couple of days from order. All in all it was a good experience, would recommend.

If you wish to proceed then initial details are completed then and a date agreed to collect, in my case just 3 days later.
I was contacted twice in the interim to confirm collection date and then on the day to advise that vehicle was ready.
I arrived at agreed time and within 30 minutes was on my way.

Second car I’ve purchased from FOW Manchester. Both times have been effortless and very welcoming staff. Great customer service and Geoff was fantastic each time we spoke!
I was a little unlucky with my purchase from FOW. Nobody’s fault, it’s just one of those things. For me, there are two elements to buying a car which I am always a little apprehensive about - the car itself and any after sales service. A car can be put right if there are issues, but that is entirely dependent on the service the dealer provides. The after sales service I received from Katie and her colleagues at Trafford was absolutely first class. The issues with my car are now resolved so I can enjoy my purchase. I would not hesitate to buy from FOW again, purely because of the lengths they go to in order to make sure their customers are looked after.

There were a few chips to the paintwork of the car I was purchasing, which was quickly rectified. I had my new car within 24 hours of viewing it.

I bought my car 4 weeks ago and I want to start of by saying that Danny helped me with the purchase of my car and he was very helpful and great with communication however since I've been driving the car the Apple car play has worked very intermittently which is extremely frustrating as I drive a lot, if I was told this then I would not of purchased the car. I would also like to add that the car was not the cleanest, has crumbs all down the middle bit.

As an overseas buyer using FOW was easy, from first seeing the car on autotrader to flying over and collecting it, the experience was easy with all the help of the sales team.
They were very helpful with everything, i cannot fault them in any way.
I would definitely recommend FOW to family and friends looking for a car.
