I finally saw the reason why the mighty DSTV is a sinking ship. I've had my account around 10 years; I personally dont watch it cause it has very outdated content. But used by my parents back at home.
As usual payment was made on the 25th; but still services were cut yesterday the 17th Jan. Upon contacting them; hey say I switched to dstv premium on the 15th of dec and ower R1050; which i didnt; and I tell them them to provide that conversation in texts or a phone call that happened to upgrade the package and they can't - i then tell them to switch it back to compact (though even in the past days we had no premium channels)
They then say they will do that but I still ower them R400

I provide proof that I paid for Jan on the 25th and they say that was for December? How when dstv is a prepaid service? I continue to tell the embarrassingly incompetent agent that dec payment is for Jan and Jan payment will be for Feb and that they have never provided a service and got paid after.
They still rudely refused to reconnect the service; and ive seen a few reviews on different platforms that have the same experience as I just this January

DSTV (MULTICHOICE) is a SCAM now! They have started changing packages without consent from their subscribers so that they can bill more. When you follow up, they send you from pillar to post. I am so disappointed at them. DSTV is FRAUD!

DSTV stream is a scam, you claim one can register and stream without a decoder but after subscription it ask for both smartcard and customer number, then the customer service will ask you how did you manage to sign up and pay if you don't have one. What is this?

DStv channel 400 continue to show the same old Absa ad with Fifi Peters and the AI rubbish. What a lot of shite time and time again, sometimes the same ad shown again immediately after it's been shown. Really pathetic, somebody needs their brains read that side. SA must have the shittest TV in the world! Shame probably the only ad they have to show, get a life you tossers and stop showing same old boring same old boring!
Multichoice WhatsApp payments Nightmare
Multichoice WhatsApp payments have become a nightmare. I paid on 3rd December for my access account through WhatsApp 0600 603 788 and have been paying so for years. On the 4th December 2025 I was disconnected due a non payment. I sent a query through WhatsApp thinking it’s a minor issue and will be resolved soon. Only to be back and forth with the agents, bots, emails and exhausted all the queries platform with no solution after sending my proof of payment and receiving 1 reference number.
On the 11 December I was reconnected with no curtesy call or email or text. To my annoyance I am again discussing this is not 16 December 2025 I called 0112892222 waisted my airtime my time and was forced to hang up after a foolish argument with a clueless agent
I listened to the menu according the Multichoice I owe over R200. This has caused a huge inconvenience to my family and I don’t know how to prove I am unfairly treated when I have already sent pop in all my queries.
From the 04 December till 11 December 2025 my viewing was illegally disconnected
Then again the 16 December 2025 I woke up to the rude disconnections.
Account chaos
For the last 5 months despite using the payment link and confirming the account number plus spending hours on the Customer Care line, my account is still not sorted. 1 account is linked to a decoder and 1 account is streaming. I have only ever streamed yet Customer Care can not resolve despite hours on the line with them.
This is pathetic customer service.
Dstv only needs to improve on...
Dstv is the best.I don't have many complaints but only one problem. It's about the music channels. I understand it's from South Africa but all of the music channels only play south African songs. Even Trace urban, the channel that used to cast western music only focuses on south African music. Its really a bummer and I would really appreciate it if you made sure to allocate the type of music to their correct channels. Because it doesn't help if you go to sound city or MTV and always see the same south African songs, at least let trace Africa be the one for African related songs. The rest is okay but another issue about the cartoon channels, they repeat one episode the entire week, maybe it's for the ones who missed the show but it's no point repeating the same episodes and showing new episodes like once in a year.But besides that, dstv is very good and I only face countable issues. I hope you do improve on the few issues that l have listed. Thank you.

DSTV's Help Desk needs improvement
DSTV failed to inform us that the annual subscription freeze expired. Suddenly the PVR was inactive and the message E102-29 appeared saying that we must upgrade/downgrade the PVR. There is no walk-in shop in our town. DSTV was contacted via the helpdesk. Since 8 Nov the agents were able to verify my security checks with the correct and updated info. Every few days the PVR would be disabled, DSTV was contacted and the agent was able to assist. Eventually it was discovered that there was a shortfall due, which we were not informed about, and that is why the PVR is disabled every few days after being reset by an agent. The full amount for the shortfall and the new monthly subscription was paid in full. The proof of payment sent to the agent. Assurance was given that the PVR would be restored today. Nope. Not the case. Contacted DSTV and the agent then started arguing with me about the verification of my information. It was wrong according to the agent. I explained that the same info was used for verification every time. Nope, incorrect, cannot help and then the agents signs off! So, I paid in full and sit with no PVR and cannot use the functions. Serious consideration to rather cancel and use other streaming services.
DSTV Customer Service is USELESS
Firstly, they shut down the service for R6.63. Secondly, they told me my last payment was made a few months ago, but was not the case and then finally, I was chatting to Manini and she/he clearly does not want to work and just handed my chat over to another agent without resolving my issue. Poor customer service and just poor service in general.
I would not recommend anyone use the chat option as that is useless and as someone that works in Customer Service, there was no value added to service to someone that is a paying customer.
Everyone there seems to not want to work which is weird because we live in a country where the unemployment rate is 31.9%,

I accidentally loaded R1500 into my old DSTV account. Despite multiple requests, I'm yet to receive a refund. Every time I call to follow up, the balance seems to decrease. Now they're saying I owe R900. Can you please help me resolve this?

The only reason this review is one star is because I cannot give zero.
The only reason anyone in South Africa has to put up with the incompetence of DSTV, is because there is no other alternative.
I received a payment link on nine October, which I followed and paid for. The amount was R573. I have now been told that my account has not been paid and has been cut off. When I click the payment link, the amount is now R799. This has happened several months in a row.
All attempts to completely delete accounts of DSTV have proved impossible. I hope in the future that there is an alternative way to consume sport and use that has nothing to do with multichoice or DSTV.

I seriously don't understand why don't they ask about your relationship with the person that you are trying to insure before they agree and take your money. They suppose to ask all the questions about relationships before. Multichoice insurance rejected my funeral policy claim because they said i **** and didn't stayed with the person and talked to the deceased "brother" which i doubt because one brother moved away before we even met him or his stepfather and the other brother is dead so i am not so sure about that. But this is also ridiculous because people take out claims of family that they only meet maybe once a year. But not they rejected me because of this ridiculous reason. What about my money i paid every month to them for this. Are they just gone take money from people and walk away??? After 6 months of waiting then they say no... this is something that i can't just leave like this because in the end of the day if i lived with the deceased or not WE are the ones that had the funeral for him OUR family not some "brother" that wasn't even at his funeral. It came from my mom's pockets and she arranged it. Not multichoice is giving me some ridiculous reason mxm
