Best Decision I made was attending

One of the best decisions I made was going to Coding Dojo for Web Development. The instructors are incredible teachers, and are giving their support every step of the way. I strongly recommend attending Coding Dojo.

Coding Dojo

When inquiring about the company they talked it up and made a lot of promises about job placement. When it came time to it, there were no connections to help students work their way into a position. The other issue I had was that as we were working our way through two of the three programs, the material was being created or developed (C# and Angular specifically ). The platform was a mess and made following any instruction hard (literally bouncing back and forth). It was a good intro to programming but for the money very expensive.

Don't miss this opportunity!

My time at Coding Dojo was unforgettable. I teamed with & learned alongside some remarkably bright people. The coursework was indeed challenging and sometimes intense, which inspired me to try even harder. Happily, the instructors and assistants were there to help whenever I got really stuck.

Great program

Great school. Learned intensively, met new people, and found great opportunities. They really keep in touch with you to make sure you make it through your transition to the brave new world of technology.

Would NOT recommend going here.

The platform need to be updated. There was plenty of time where I learned something the wrong way and spend countless hours doing it wrong. I also went into the program believing that career service was going to be something helpful where you could potentially get a job coming out of the program. I was also told on the phone interview (before paying) that 97% percent of the people that graduate from the program would find a job in the field. When in fact only a handful of my classmates ended up getting a job. I also tried reaching out to the career service after graduation to see if I could get a little more guidance but they have refused to answer my emails.

Do your research and ask questions first.

Expensive for what you actually receive.
A big selling point for me was the Career Services and their "Hiring Partners", however what this amounted to was a week of resume review, roleplay, and that particular counselors views on how to get hired.
They didn't share any postings for the "hiring partners" until pressed about it repeatedly, and what the posting they shared were general open postings, that anyone could see and know about, nothing exclusive, or 'partner' about it.
I did gain coding knowledge, but only really in the realm of Web Development, which was never really clear until well into the course. So if you are looking to go into a different field than Web Dev, you are going to have a big pivot to make after this course.
Overall I feel very "meh" about the time and money I spent here, which could have been spent on my mortgage or certifications that actually mean something in the IT field, make no mistake employers don't really care about your certification from Coding Dojo, its more in the realm of "oh thats nice".
So be sure to do you due diligence before forking over $10k. If this was something more like the CompTIA certifications that the IT Industry values and takes as a mark of ability, then the cost would be justified.
Last thing is the building they currently use in Dallas, Founders Square, the building management seems to actively despise the students presence, you will not be able to park in their building and all the parking around there is either close and expensive, or cheap and a walk, so hope for good weather if/while you attend.

Lack of options for working professionals

Coding dojo needs to come up with classroom content for working professionals who are looking to up their skills .

Add latest programs like devops curriculum

Add evening and weekend classes for folks who have full time jobs

Coding Dojo is a great venture if you …

Coding Dojo is a great venture if you are seeking a very entry level introduction to the world of web programming. They touch upon all the major concepts lightly to intermediary. By no means will this make you career ready alone as they used to market towards. This is the fine line that reals in a lot of hopefuls. Do you research, come prepared and be prepared to have to run another marathon during and after the program to be even remotely prepared for work in development. Objectively speaking you may be able to land a very entry level basic web dev role at a company doing simple coding tasks. But if you want to be a serious dev, lots of additional legwork will need to be done.

I have noticed that some of the …

I have noticed that some of the instructors play favorites with students. They pick out the smart ones and do nothing to break the coteries that develop around those students. I would have preferred they break those up and mix them with struggling students so that we are all on same page.

Some instructors are in class for 20 or so minutes during the self-code hours and then disappear for the rest of the evening and we have no one to turn to if we struggle with the day's assignment.

There is/was NO feedback on how our code is when we upload to the website.

I think a lot of teachers assume that we are proficient in coding when signing up when in reality many of the students started coding very recently. One think I hated about the class was one instructor going: you guys will be earning 100K a year easily! That kind of sets up false expectations! A career is a ladder to be climbed before reaching money like that.

One of the best experiences that I’ll always remember

I really enjoyed my time at coding dojo. From a beginner with no prior knowledge, I learned a ton. I am not sure if I could have actually learned more. My one criticism is that they should be more front end focusing, without deminishing the current curriculum. I think learning great front end development principles and focusing more on front end frameworks would be more practical for student immediately after graduation.

IF you dont have cs experience

IF you dont have cs experience , dont ever try this. And also i spend it 12k for this school and they shut learning platform after 6months graduated. You need spend $50 every month for renew to see learning platform. Again if you already have cs experience and want to learn other computer language soon as possible, this program is fit for you. But person expect carrer change , you need to be think really really really carefully.

Good if you already have relevant knowledge and work experience

Coding Dojo worked out well for me, as I secured a full time job as a software engineer within 2 months of graduating and after 6 months got a 25K a year raise to move to a much more fun developer job.
That being said, I also have a BSIT in software engineering and years of experience in very low level tech jobs. Most of the other students I met while I was there had a very difficult time finding work and gave up after 6 months to a year of trying.
Another issue I realized after entering the workforce is that doing the same assignments in 3 different stacks only gives the most minimal knowledge of the MVC structure. It would be more valuable to learn how to apply Oauth to the 2nd and 3rd stack as that is more likely to be similar to what you do in the real world. After the first stack, I think going over industry standard packages and technologies would be valuable in helping students find work afterwards.
Still very happy I went, and I think if changes are implemented then many more students would successfully find work after graduating.

I would not recommend this program to …

I would not recommend this program to anyone, unless they already have a computer science degree. I would recommend Galvanized probably. The biggest challenge is that they are not teaching what is actually available for junior developers to gain employment. I think it is highly unethical that they would get paid money from Microsoft and encourage students to learn .Net Core instead of Java. I think that they should be offering PHP as well. The program says that they graduate full-stack developers, but I doubt anyone could actually do deployment on their own or build their own microserver. I would also say that since I completed the program 80% of graduates are still unemployed. I have not heard from my career services person 1x. I think that this program false advertise and I cannot wait to join the class action law suit that I have been hearing about from other unemployed students. This program is totally unethical. I have tried to contact instructors and gotten no responses at all. I have gone back and tried to visit and everyone was rude and acted like I was not welcomes.

I thought it was an awesomely run boot camp. The content helped you learn to code and was fresh. Those provided assets were great but they were only teaching aids for the great staff. Basically it was 4 months of being in an atmosphere condusive to approaching and wanting to be around. The instructors are welcoming, engaging, smart, and just helpful.

Not a good experience at all - would NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Not a good experience at all with the instructors and the experienced on campus. I was NOT PLEASED with the lack of attention to instructing me as a student - especially after I tried to ask for help. Instructors were never around to help, nor were they able to assist with the learning lessons. I would NOT RECOMMEND to other future students. It was a waste of time for me to invest money and time into this school.

PLEASE go else where if you want to learn programming!!!

Integrity

When there is an issue with your product and you offer a refund or some kind of compensation for not delivering as promised, you compensate everyone and not just the people who complain the loudest. You try to make things right with your customers.

Learned a lot but still don’t seem to be prepared for the job market. We didn’t learn enough to really stand out in the job market.
