I helped someone I know who had written a family history but had no idea how to turn these thousands of words and a pile of old photos into a book.

I edited and formatted the text, scanned the photos, designed a cover and put the whole together. Then I needed to find a printer/publisher.

I looked online and found a number of possible suppliers. What appealed to me about The Book Printing Company in particular was the clarity of their instructions. They made it very clear what I needed to do to produce a file for the inside pages plus a file for the wrap around cover (including the spine). I had a choice of finished book sizes and it was explicitly stated what I needed to leave for the gutter and trim areas, etc. I found the directions had the right amount of detail and clarity that let me be confident that what I was doing would be correct.

And when I did have a couple of questions, on each occasion I got a quick reply from Sue with the information I needed.

Not unimportant of course was price. On this occasion I was only passing on the cost to the author but I wouldn’t have recommended a supplier that didn’t offer a good price and on this too The Book Printing Company was in the right place.

And now that I have received the books I can say without reservation that the quality is terrific. The work I put into layout and formatting as well as to restoring the old photos has been well rewarded.
