We are an independent group who have been caring for eyes for over 68 years. Established in 1957 by Frank Barraclough in St. Leonards and later joined by Peter Stiles, we gained a reputation founded on expertise combined with a kind and helpful manner.
Investing in the latest technology and equipment such as OCT imaging and Optomap® retinal scanning and keeping the practices modern and up to date has all helped in passing the 65 year milestone.
However, a significant contribution has been made by the people working in the company and a large proportion of our staff have been with us for many years enabling them to build excellent relationships with our clients. We're proud of the solid reputation we have built up over the years and will continue to deliver the very best possible service when it comes to eye care and customer care.

Very Highly Recommended
Stephen, the optician, helped me to feel at ease during my eye exam and Kelly, the office manager, was extremely kind and patient when helping me to choose frames and lenses. I highly recommend Barracloughs in St Leonards.

Very happy so far with my first visit, both James who did eye test and Gwillam who helped me choose glasses were friendly and super helpful. Haven’t got my new glasses yet but based on experience so far would definitely recommend

Professional Service
Mr Puri did my first fitting for new contact lenses, although in my case it was only for one eye as the other eye has nearly perfect sight. His manner was professional, friendly and helpful. He is very knowledgeable and delighted in explaining what was happening. I cannot recommend the service highly enough. I was sorry to leave as it was so enjoyable.

I felt very looked after
I felt very looked after, everyone was polite and professional, Lucia was very thorough and brought up issues that had never been mentioned before. Ginny helped me through the minefield of choosing the right product for me. All in all a very positive experience and my husband will be coming too soon.

I had my eye test with Barraclough, such a shame.
I had my eye test with Barraclough, but could not afford the glasses they offered me, so instead took the prescription and had the glasses made elsewhere. Unfortunately the reading and computer glasses were focused far too close. Barracloughs said it was the third parties fault, but they would review the prescription for £55! I used the prescription to have produced a second set of glasses with the same result. The focus point was far to close to my eyes.
So, I have informed Barracloughs that I will do no further business with them and full intend to report them to their governing body.

We're very sorry you feel this way Mr Hutchison, unfortunately we could not carry out a second sight examination funded by the NHS.
As stated by The College of Optometrists, the prescribing and dispensing of spectacles are very closely linked and it is always much more straightforward to have your spectacles dispensed where you have your eyes examined. It becomes very difficult to resolve any problems you may have with your eyewear, when prescribing and supply are separated.
We are very sorry to see you go but wish you all the best with your future optician.
Bad Customer Service.
05th June 2024 i went to your branch to request a Nose Pad for my glasses,I was quoted 2 pads for £5 or 1 for £3.00 as a customer of yours for over 10years i was very surprised having to pay for this pad.Where is your customer service.I did not mind having to pay for it but surely you could offer a customer service free pad.Your staff member Ms Katherine Freeman was only doing her job and was helpful.

Warm welcome on arrival, and the very professional way that Emma assisted in ordering the correct frames for my new spectacles.
The actual eye test & photographing of the eyes was carried out in a very professional manner & Mr Purit makes it all stress free.
