Cancelling a transfer is a 7-14 day nightmare — plan very carefully before you send

I use this service regularly to send money to Zimbabwe. The rates are very competitive, I'll give them that. However, Recently I sent £200 to a friend there, then a couple days later wanted to send a further £100. Since the first transaction hadn't been collected yet and also each transfer carries a £2.50 fee, I tried to cancel the first transaction so I could combine both into a single £300 transfer and only pay the fee once.
That's where the problems started. There is no cancel option anywhere in the online portal — you have to phone. On the call (which is recorded), I was told a request to cancel isn't actioned there and then. Instead, they call you back and then send an email asking you to restate, in writing, the exact same cancellation request you already gave verbally. Only once that's processed does the refund get approved — and even then, it takes 7-14 working days for the money to actually land back in your account.

The practical effect: I couldn't combine the transfers to save the fee, because doing so would have meant leaving my friend in Zimbabwe without funds for up to two weeks while the "cancelled" money sat in limbo. So I ended up sending the second transfer anyway and paying the fee twice.

If you're sending money to family or friends who need it promptly, be aware that this company makes it very difficult to reverse a transaction quickly. The process seems designed to discourage cancellations rather than facilitate them. This heavily erodes the otherwise decent service they were trying to create. Double-check your amounts before confirming — you may not get a practical opportunity to correct a mistake.

I will, for now, revert to the other tried and rested options/services of sending money to. ZIMBABWE, until Wiremit address these issues. When I contacted them, they would not budge, which is a shame really
