Shelly is thoughtful and attentive and O.D. is a delight.

It was a very friendly environment with lots of humor and fun times. I saw more animals than I ever dreamed of and having them so close was an amazing feelingI I have traveled a lot and this particular trip was the highlight of all my travels. The experience was more than I could have ever imagined!

Shelly is very personable, attentive, and lots of fun! The itinerary had the perfect mixture of adventure and relaxation. I would love to do another adventure in Africa again in the future and will be using Windswept Safaris.

Before our trip even began, Shelly and O.D., the incredible owners of Windswept Safaris, were there—helping us every step of the way. They made sure we had our visas, travel documents, and arrangements perfectly in place, easing so many of the pre-travel worries we had. Traveling to Africa for the first time can feel overwhelming—but from the very start, we were in the best hands.

And once we landed in Kenya, the magic truly began.

From the moment we walked out of the airport to the moment we boarded our flight home, every detail was handled with care, precision, and love. We never had to worry about a thing. Shelly and O.D. created an experience that was perfectly tailored to us—a seamless blend of thrilling game drives, peaceful accommodations, and deeply meaningful moments.

What an amazing experience!!!!! Windswept give me a trip I will remember and talk about for the rest of my time. Shelly Harris listened to what things I was looking forward to seeing on a Safari, offering ideas throughout and then planned a safari beyond me expectations.
Being an avid elephant fan, Shelly and Odie took me to the Sheldrick Wildlife Orphanage where I was able to see 30 baby elephants who are being rehabilitated to return to life in the wild. This started my safari experience in a fantastic way. It was interesting to touch and feel the babies and see them flourishing when they could have been lost to us. Then we moved on to Nairobi National Park where we saw our first wild animals wandering free on a savannah. Odie pointed animals and gave me interesting information about them. It was cool to see them and not behind fences and concrete walls.
We went to the Giraffe Center and learn about how giraffes defend themselves in the wild and then fed Eddie and Daisy food. We then headed to Naivasha. That night we cooked a Maasai meal while doing an impromptu Karaoke session. What a fun night.
We went to Hell's Gate National Park, where you can hike through volcano tubes, hear a 3-way echo, hike through majesty canyons and climb up to Pride Rock. After which we went to the Geothermal spa to recoup from the hiking. Later that night, we ate dinner on Lake Naivasha with the hippos. Fun to watch them eat and play.
We took a boat trip on Lake Naivasha to Crescent Island where we walked among MORE wild animals. Zebras and giraffes within arms reach without touching. Saw eagles diving for fish as we cruised back to boat dock. Later in the day we went shopping for Maasai beaded jewelry and trinkets. A real treat was the Chopati with British tea. Yum.
As part of the trip, I participated in visiting a local Maasai school and handed out paper and pencil to each student. They greeted us with a song and dance. They were warm and welcoming. Enjoyed watching their joy of new jump ropes and soccer balls. Then we went to a local farm and learned how to shoot arrows and throw spears. I have no arm for arrows but others in the groups did very well with coaching for the Maasai men. Dinner that evening was from a Maasai family serving us another Maasai meal. It was delicious.
The next day we went into town and saw shoes being made from tires. I saw many Maasai villagers wearing the shoes when we visited a Maasai village later in the day. I picked up more Maasia beaded jewelry. Also picked up a Maasai machete as a remebrance for such an amazing trip.
We spent the next few day out on the Maasi Mara. We saw so many animals, young and old and inbetween. We saw a wild buffalo be born, had an elephant trumpet at us twice, and ate under an acacia tree. The days out on the Maasi Mara was simply glorious to see nature at best.
I had time everyday to rest and rejuvenate. The accomodations were splendid. I went glamping one night. It was fun to hear the animal noises at night and try to figure out what I was hearing. It was nice to be away from city noises and just be in nature.
I highly recommend Windswept Tours. Shelly and Odie showed me another world by sharing Nairobi and Maasi Mara with me. I am looking forward to when I can return to Kenya again.
