Do not use The Will Associates or Honey Legal, whatever name they go by!

I am utterly disgusted by the underhanded tactics used by The Will Associates to persuade my elderly parents to appoint the company as executors and trustees of their Wills.

My parents were told this was “the right thing to do” and were never clearly informed that the company would later charge substantial fees to act — or that we’d have to pay hundreds of pounds simply to have them step down when the family wanted to handle the estate ourselves.

Following the passing of my father, what should have been a straightforward and sensitive process has become an increasingly stressful and upsetting ordeal.
We have been quoted excessive fees for even the most basic tasks (including over £700 + VAT just to renounce their role, and more than £3,000 for a simple Grant-Only service).

No one should have to deal with this kind of pressure and lack of transparency while grieving a loved one.
I would strongly urge anyone considering The Will Associates or what they go by now 'Honey Legal' to think very carefully before signing anything, and to make sure you fully understand the long-term costs and implications of naming them as executors.

This has been, without question, the worst decision my parents ever made, and it has caused our family unnecessary stress at a deeply painful time.

Please learn from our experience and make sure your loved ones choose executors they trust personally, not a company with hidden fees and unclear terms.

Poorly Structured Will, Hidden Fees, and Pressure Tactics — Avoid at All Costs

I regret engaging Honey Legal / The Will Associates for will-writing and discretionary trust services. What was marketed as a personalised estate planning service turned out to be a template-based document with broad and risky legal clauses that were never explained to me.

Key issues included:

My wife wasn’t even listed as a beneficiary — and the estate planner didn’t notice until I pointed it out.

The will granted more power to the company’s directors than my own family, including the ability to add beneficiaries and transfer assets overseas.

When I raised concerns, they initially defended the unfair clauses, then offered to change them — showing that the will was never built around my wishes in the first place. They had prioritised their own interest over customers.

Their fee structure was unclear, and their response to my refund request was dismissive. They only refunded £140 out of £1,400 despite the document being mostly copy-paste.

If you’re looking for transparent, professional, client-focused will writing — I strongly recommend seeking advice elsewhere. This company operates on pressure, ambiguity, and control, not on trust or care.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

DO NOT USE. STAY AWAY !! The Wills Associates is closely associated with Honeylegal. Neither are registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority. and I strongly suggest you ignore the Trustpilot reviews for HoneyLegal. I do not know how Honey could achieve such high ratings. It could be that good ratings go to HoneyLegal and bad ratings arrive here.
As well as misleading clients as to the legitimacy, client's information is not secure. I received a link to a doc for another Honey client, Mr & Mrs O'Brien of Bristol.
I demanded and received a full refund of fees.
Do yourself a favour and avoid.
This review also appears on the HoneyLegal reviews.

Awful Honey Legal UK - Wills and Probate

Honey Legal Will writers and Executors. A questionable service by them.
Use instead a firm of solicitors registed by the Law Society.

- Sales contract issues
- Instructions issues
- Numerous versions of a Will in the space of 9 months
"Honey Legal"
Problems from Jan 2020 sales visit
Signed Will Sept 2020
Oct 2022 death
Until present (Nov 2024) and ongoing serious issues, costs, refusal to answer LvN questions or provide structured information. Honey Legal racked up bills in excess of £25k (1.6% of estate as costs) nearly reaching maximum costs from estate but then have IDR Law on board thereby estate potentially liable for additional and higher costs, especially for matters Honey Legal could have and should have answered. Honey Legal delayed for over 12-22months and now IDR Law running up costs.

What could go wrong?
What did go wrong?

After death... discovery of paperwork which leaves a lot of questions and suspicions. Who make the Will instructions, when and how? Paperwork signed and audio recording. Neither stating Honey Legal as Executors and then surprise surprise, a signed Will appointing Honey Legal as Executors.

Ask yourselves one question: Are you (the testator) making a Will with the intention of leaving your money and assets to who you want to leave it to?
Or
Are you leaving a whole bag of issues for your loved ones to have to do battle over your estate? And whereby in the end Honey Legal and their lawyers incur a staggering amount in fees and, BINGO!!!... They've made a whole bag of money whilst your estate gets poorer.

BEST ADVICE MAKE YOUR BENEFICIARIES EXECUTORS.

USE A REGISTERED SOLICITOR TO MAKE YOUR WILL AND DISCUSS YOUR AFFAIRS WITH THEM IN PRIVATE AND NO ONE ELSE AROUND.

DO NOT APPOINT A FAMILY LIAISON OR THIRD PARTY TO MAKE CONTACT ABOUT YOUR WILL.

STAY AWAY FROM HONEY LEGAL IS THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO

The Will Associates Limited (Honey Legal) are the sales company and Will writers

The Will Associates Asset Management Ltd (Honey Legal) are names on the Will as Executors

IDR Law are the solicitors for Honey Legal

Horrid situation

MUST READ - My Experience With Honeylegal, The Will Associates Asset Management

In 2019 after reading only the good reviews I made a huge mistake and asked Honeylegal to do a Will for my father.
Helen Ali came and briefly spoke to my father and said she didn’t understand him as he spoke broken English also he had Dementia/ Alzheimer's and he didn’t understand her either. So I translated in Punjabi as to what Helen Ali was saying.
As he was confused and was unclear in what he wanted from a Will, she said he wanted me and my son to remain living in the house and something for his other children but Helen did not explain he cant do that then Helen suggested a Discretionary Trust Will appointing her company The Will Associates as Executors and Trustees. She never explained their charges or the role of the Executors and was very very vague. She just wanted my fathers signature on the Customer Service Agreement and would say anything to get it signed. It seemed there would be no charges but the £1,185.00. I tried to get her to leave and we would think about it but she went on and on and finally asked me to pay £150.00 deposit with 14 days to cancel to get her to leave. Later Helen Ali and Honeylegal will say I was not even there when she took instructions from my father.
As part of Honeylegal compliance check Helen is required to make an audio recording of the Testator making the Will, my father, giving clear instructions. Sadley in this case she did not even ask my father for an audio recording. She phoned the house the next day and got a family member to pretend to be my father and knowingly used that audio recording to pass Honeylegal compliance check. The Solicitor Paul Owen who’s job it is to check and oversee did not make any checks why the audio was done the next day or its the wrong Will as my father did not have the money to cover their fees and the house would need to be sold.
Come 2022 my father passes away and Honeylegal send their list of charges appointing Nathan Pavey and Simon Anthony Wright as Executors, 1.95% of estate, £5,000 to £15,000 plus VAT and disbursements all likely to be over £30,000. I was shocked and immediately asked these Executors to renounce resign, they refused. I got legal advise and did a Larke v Nugus request to request the Will file and placed a Caveat with the Probate Registry to stop them getting Probate. I then asked Helen about these charges she said she does not do Probate and did not know the charges. These Executors appoint IDR Law Solicitors to help them get Probate incurring huge legal fees. Unfortunately, Honeylegal convinced two of my bothers to side with them.
There were mistakes in this Will that Honeylegal refuse to fix. When I listened to the audio recording they gave me I informed Honeylegal and these Executors that it was not my father. They refused to accept this fact in that their employee would do that. When I got them an authentic recording of my fathers voice they turn around and say Helen Ali thought it was him on the phone! They even said I was not there when Helen took instructions from my father in their desperation to get Probate.
Now 2024 these Executors have not arranged my fathers ashes to be taken to India, not got Probate and incurred over £100,000.00 plus VAT in legal fees and if they get Probate it is possible they will take over £175,000.00 in fees and charges and sell the house below market price and for around £400,000.00. There wont be anything left for any of the Beneficiaries as Honeylegal, The Will Associates Asset Management could take the whole Estate as its their discretion what they do.
As these Executors wont resign I am having to take this to Court.
I never imagined Honeylegal, Paul Owen, Helen Ali, Nathan Pavey, Simon Anthony Wright would ignore the Will and Wishes they created and cause me and my family to suffer so much stress, anxiety, threatening to make me and my 13 year old son homeless plus I have had to pay Solicitors, Barristers, Court fees, Medical Expert Report fees for Court and continuing legal fees all this they did for their own financial gain. I have reported this to The Council for Licensed Conveyors, The Solicitors Regulation Authority,The Legal Ombudsman the Action Fraud Police but non of these Regulators or the Police actually do anything, as they are not Regulated by anybody.
Experience ongoing since 2022
