This site is completely unreliable. I paid for a weekly subscription and was charged again. I do not want this subscription. There is no payment method listed in my account, no visible payment history, and no clear record of how this charge was processed.

I also paid to watch a short film and was not allowed to watch it anyway. I am trying to delete my account, but the system keeps saying my password is invalid. I reset it and it still does not work. This is unacceptable.

There is no real customer support—only a contact form on their website. I wrote to them and never received any response. No transparency, no assistance, no accountability. Avoid.

UPDATE dated 27.08.26: Following the publication of this review, the royalty payment relating to 2024 was subsequently received. We are relieved that the 2024 royalties were eventually paid.

As we have previously stated, the amount itself was not the central issue; our concern was the prolonged delay in the process and the considerable effort required to obtain payment. This was particularly disappointing given our previous positive experience, including a separate, limited streaming collaboration as a film festival involving six winning short films from our MUFA2023 edition.
Hence, we sincerely hope this was an isolated case.

We are sincerely disappointed to report a very distressing experience with this distribution platform. It is particularly disheartening as we have supported it since its early days and genuinely believed in its mission to empower independent filmmakers.

Our films had been available on the platform since 2023. During the first year, we chose to offset our royalties through a marketing offer that promised to multiply their value by reinvesting them into promotional activity for films hosted on the platform. As a result, we did not experience the royalty payment process directly in that first year.

In 2024, we opted instead to receive our royalties. That is when the difficulties began.

Under our agreement, royalties accrued during the previous year were due for payment in the first week of January, unless otherwise agreed in writing. We received WeShort’s royalty calculation on 14 May 2025 and issued the requested invoice that same day, with a due date of 31 May 2025.

Despite repeated reminders, the 2024 royalties remained unpaid for several months beyond the invoice due date.

During this process, we also identified errors in the royalty estimates — one of which referred to a film that was not ours — and we immediately and politely reported it. We also noted that the royalties accrued for 2024 were equal to those of 2023, despite the platform having raised its subscription prices. We raised this point and accepted the explanation provided to us in good faith.

However, the core issue remained the prolonged delay in receiving the royalties due.

After the invoice due date passed, we had to follow up repeatedly — approximately once or twice per month — to request what was owed. The amount in question was modest, but that is precisely why we felt compelled to persist.

Independent filmmakers should never be discouraged from claiming what is rightfully theirs. Even modest royalties matter: purely by way of illustration, if, hypothetically, 2,000 titles each generated £30, those individually small amounts would collectively become significant. In our view, it is fundamentally unfair for filmmakers to have to pursue royalties for months after they become due.

Throughout this process, we received several explanations regarding technical issues and the status of the payment which, in our experience, appeared inconsistent with one another. At different stages, we were informed that a transfer had been made and subsequently that the invoice had been paid, while the funds had still not reached our account.

On Thursday, 23rd October 2025, we were sent a cropped screenshot of a bank transfer attempt to inform us that the transfer had failed. The bank details provided were the same ones we regularly used to receive payments. We offered alternative solutions, including PayPal, and later provided a second bank account.

We requested the removal of our films in early October 2025, and the platform has since taken them down. However, our films remained available for most of 2025. Any royalties accrued during that period are expected to be handled in accordance with the relevant agreement.

We delayed making the original statement for months, hoping the matter would be resolved promptly and professionally. Unfortunately, this has become the most disappointing distribution experience we have encountered to date.

We share this account not out of resentment, but because we believe transparency and accountability are important within independent film distribution. MiraBan is a registered limited company with experience in the film sector, yet obtaining a relatively modest payment still required repeated follow-ups over a prolonged period. Filmmakers and rights-holders should feel confident in asking for clear accounting and timely payment, and in sharing their experiences openly and honestly.

We sincerely hope that by reporting our experience, we can encourage greater transparency, accountability, and fairness within the independent film distribution sector.
