Review: Vertu York
I visited Vertu York and as soon as I walked in, no staff greeted me at all. I checked over the car — it wasn’t even clean, there was dirt all over the pedals, and the engine bay under the bonnet was filthy too. I spoke to Calum, who told me this was “normal” and they don’t clean cars beforehand. After arguing my point, they eventually agreed to clean it, though I was annoyed they claimed it would take a whole week to do.
Later I discovered the parcel shelf was missing, plus there were faults with the suspension arms. Again I spoke to Calum — he refused to help or cover repairs, even though I had a 3‑month warranty. I left a review, and Steven eventually called to say he’d honour the warranty, fix the suspension and send me a replacement parcel shelf.
Since then I’ve sent emails and phoned several times — still no parcel shelf, no update, and no call‑back from Steven. The communication is absolutely terrible and the whole service was very poor from start to finish. I wouldn’t recommend them.

Friendly atmosphere. Salespeople were informative but not pushy.
I needed an extended test drive to see if the car would go in my small garage - that was no problem. I received willing help on some form filling. The MAnager came over at the end to see if I had been happy with everything. The whole process was pleasant from start to finish.

Great customer service at Vertu Renault York. Saw car online and enquired. Very prompt response. Went to view car and salesman Jack was very helpful, not pushy at all and gave me a great deal on my trade in which clinched the deal. Everything was explained so clearly and patiently, even when I picked my new car up and didn't quite understand all the technology! I felt really confident that I made the right decision. The process for the purchase of my new Renault from Vertu Motors in York was trouble free. The salesman, Colby, provided excellent service with comprehensive information being provided, an accurate timeline and helping with a couple of issues that I had. At the time of the handover of the vehicle Colby was fully prepared which made for a quick and easy process.

We bought a second-hand Volvo from Virtue. We had a couple of issues initially, and to be fair, these were resolved apart from an ongoing problem that we had pointed out at the time of purchase. We also had to pay over half the cost of a new key so that we could have two keys, as the car only came with one.
However, the aftercare has been very disappointing. The car is still within the 3-month warranty period, yet the issue we originally raised has continued to worsen. In hindsight, we probably should have left the car there when we first noticed it.
We had the problem checked by our local Volvo dealer, who confirmed it is a known issue with Volvo vehicles. Normally, Volvo may offer a goodwill repair for this type of fault, particularly as the car has a full Volvo service history and has covered less than 30,000 miles. Unfortunately, Volvo declined to help because the car was purchased through Virtue rather than directly from a Volvo dealership.
Had we bought the car directly from Volvo, we would also have received a 12-month warranty instead of just 3 months. Overall, we are very disappointed that Virtue seem unwilling to help with a known and worsening issue.
Lesson learned: buying directly from the main dealership may cost more, but the aftercare and warranty support are likely to be much better.

I placed the order for my new car over the telephone and Colby and the finance manager went above and beyond to ensure that I got the car that I wanted at the price that I wanted. Even on his day off Colby made sure that all of the necessary paperwork and checks were in place to enable me to collect my car on the day I had requested.
